Not missing the point at all. The poster said his friends asked if he were embarrassed to have gone to Richmond. I think it is incredibly stupid that anyone would ask a Richmond grad if they are embarrassed about their school, no matter how their sports programs are doing.
So you're either being obtuse or worse, not actually understanding the intent of their ribbing. Obviously they are talking about being embarrassed by the school's athletic output, or lack thereof. If you don't get that, you're missing the point.

Agree Moliva. I live in a small town in CT. I played in an old guys league for 10 years, so many of those guys follow college hoops and know a little about Richmond. When I talk with those guys they ask: When are you getting rid of Mooney? or What happened to Richmond? or How has Richmond been doing, I don't see much about them lately? I give them my theories. Another 2-3 years of Mooney and we will fall off the map.

I understand, but I still don't see why anyone would say that. I just don't think nearly half the division 1 schools should be embarrassed about their programs. Yes, we have had two straight losing seasons. We are not alone. Disappointment? Yes embarrassment? Far from it. Back-to-back 5 win seasons or back to back 13th or 14th place finishes in the conference might be an embarrassment. but, a fifth-place finish and a 10th or 11th place finish back-to-back in a 14-team league? Nothing embarrassing at all about that. Disappointing, but not embarrassing.

Plus, we have good kids and we run a clean program. Yes, I want to win as much as you guys do, but an embarrassing program to me is one that loses a lot more than we do, and also has some bad guys in it.

Not going to apologize for respecting the guys we have in our program. I like them all. They are classy, well spoken, and represent our program positively. They are also very good basketball players. Screw you guys if you don't respect them

There you go again, always deflecting away from the unacceptable results of Mooney and the program. No one is disrespecting the players and you know that. No one said they were not well spoken and not good representatives of UR. We are talking about a lack of wins with this program and to many losses. We are talking about the same problems with Mooney’s teams game after game, year after year with little to no adjustments in strategy. We are talking about nearly a decade since an NCAA appearance. Deflecting attention doesn’t change the results and doesn’t solve the issues with the program.

I can agree with those who are not a fan of getting beat on the boards every night to save transition points on defense.
we didn't run back to stop the break against UMASS. we actually had a respectable 11 offensive rebounds against UMASS.

the problem was on the other end. we gave up 19 offensive rebounds! on the side of the court where we should have inside position. heck, we only had 16 defensive rebounds. so UMASS actually got more rebounds at the basket they were shooting at than we did. that's a problem. and it has less to do with scheme than it does with strength, size, athleticism, and the freaking desire to get rebounds.

I agree with all of that. I was talking about what our strategy usually is regarding rebounding and getting back on defense.

LOL 4700. There you go putting out something I haven't read here? We do respect them and I respect the coach as a person, just tired of his underwhelming coaching.

And I have said many times I want to win as bad as you guys. My point was very simple. I am not embarrassed about our program because we have not been losing for a long time and also we have good guys in it. Fine if you disagree, but I just don't understand why saying that and praising our players on other topics always has to turn into a big debate or argument about our players.

Your tolerance for low level achievements would be admired by some. Sorry but most of us just can't identify with that.

Understood. I would not expect everyone to agree with me on that, especially on a message board. For what it's worth, I am kind of in the middle about a change right now. I am not wanting to put a billboard up or anyting, but I am also not thinking we should definitely 100% bring back our coach either. Whatever they decide, I will be fine with, and will support our team just as much as always next year and beyond.

We have not had consistent losing seasons for a long time, but we also haven't had any real success in a long time. The only really consistent metric anyone here has is a periodic trip to the NCAA. Once per 8+ years is a basis for some degree of embarassment or at least disillusionment.

This ‘reverse jinx’ nonsence is getting very old . You could not watch that game and see improvement! I’d like to know what John Os contacts are saying?
I watched with a few friends who rarely if ever watch A10 games (I live in California, the Wednesday games are over by the time most people here get off work) and they asked me if I was embarrassed to have gone to Richmond after the game. I still am not sure of my answer
the answer is a definite yes.....

Millennial. Don't hold anyone accountable.... it's 'mean'.
Our next to last game in the season, you watched it (I assume) the team has not really improved, Mooney is a lost cause.

Yes, an embarrassment. Had lunch with 3 UVA grads today, taking Wahoo hoops. Amongst a bunch of UVA hoops talk... "What the hell is going on with UR"?

There's alot of this going on out here. Again, probably not evident to the glad handers and access cravers, living on their own small planet, but that doesnt mean it isnt happening.
We are a laughingstock. I frequently have similar encounters.
While I'm certain others are not experiencing it, it's real.

We literally just kicked a guy off the team for drugs last year.

The program has become embarrassing, it's true.

Look at it like this: If I told you we were going to hire a new coach next month, sign him to an eight-year contract for $10 million and that we'd miss the NCAA all eight years, never make it to an a10 title game and finish on average about eighth place in the regular season, would you say "Sweet! Let's give him a ninth year!"?

Because that's exactly what you're saying if you want Mooney to come back next year.

there is not a bball fan in all of Virginia that thinks cm is doing a good job. Unless of course you are his pal or a family member. They all know he HAS to be canned for damn respect... holy crap.

Yes, absolute embarrassment. And for added embarrassment, some would actually do nothing to address the issues with the program. We dump a bunch of money in facilities and the basketball program and then accept losing. That’s embarrassing.
Absolutely. CM has some sadistic influence over people who normally make rational decisions. How they arent infuriated is nuts.

Maybe disappointment, but embarrassment? Come on.
Yes damn well embarrassed. Your institution takes pride in trying to achieve excellence in whatever they do and the basketball program is one of the most visible aspects, and we are complacent... yes embarassing.

They are his personal friends/family and coworkers. Of couse!!! I have been saying this for years. Anyone defending cm on these boards is a family member/close friend and SHOULD BE IGNORED and at tbis point RIDICULED as only a friend or family member defending him.

When someone has a different opinion and view then you your answer is to ignore them? That makes you look much worse than them.
