Question: there are still Mooney apologists, I think. Without trying to be antagonistic, what’s the justification for his continued employment? Is anyone totally opposed to a change at this point? Unfortunately it’s a sticky situation.
Which team won the dunking battle tonight?
I didn't watch the game. I was on the road and didn't listen to anything, either. From the comments, it doesn't sound like we competed. How can Mooney look at himself in the mirror knowing that he didn't compete? His whole mantra is to compete! How is he still allowed to be the coach here when he fails his own words? Him and Queally must be real buddies to allow this garbage to metastasize like a cancer.
We really need to put this program out of it's misery. Mooney has lost ALL credibility as a coach. Hardt needs to show CM the door the minute our season is over.

I didn't watch but I would gather not us. I think VCU had more dunks on Saturday than we have had all season. Nice to see the recruit that Mooney missed on, dunk on us though. And then nice to listen to Mooney lament that we don't have enough big men to compete for rebounds and against players like Holloman, who is a frickin role player on a bad Umass team.
Game was so exciting that I fell asleep during the 1st half. Woke up at halftime, watched 2-minutes and abandoned the telecast. Pitiful.
Lets lose the dunking talk...yes, dunking energizes the crowd and the players and asserts dominance, but if we qin 25 games, i dont care if we ever dunk.
Guess the question is - when will we win 25 games in one season instead of taking two to accomplish that?
Duh. Next year, obviously, if we keep Mooney! Why else would we keep him other than because we feel certain we'll win that many games and make the NCAAs?? I can't think of any reason...
So get ready to watch us sail through the self/Mooney-proclaimed hardest OOC schedule in the league and then probably go something like 14-4 in league play, finish second for the first time ever under his watch, probably win the A-10 tourney and likely ride that to a 7-seed in the NCAA tournament.
True, but dunking is only a symptom of one of our biggest problems; the fact that we are coached to play SOFT....
and energizing the players can make the difference between winning and losing.
I watched with a few friends who rarely if ever watch A10 games (I live in California, the Wednesday games are over by the time most people here get off work) and they asked me if I was embarrassed to have gone to Richmond after the game. I still am not sure of my answer

Embarrassed to have gone to Richmond? Over a basketball game? So, does that mean that graduates of the150 teams that are ranked below us right now should also be embarrassed? Wow, how embarrassing to have gone to Columbia or Cornell, right?
First off, 150 teams ranked below us. I guess you're including DII and DIII teams.
Second off when guys hang out they are known to make jokes, this was one of those things mate.

However, college athletics equate to marketing for the university. Losing certainly doesn’t help the message.
Simple answer if you are disturbed -- the University, not at all, the program may be another answer at the moment
Seems to be a common theme with that one. I still don't think he is a Richmond grad as he portends. His analytic abilities lean me more to believe he is what his handle says he is.
We have too many posters who sound like they mean the University when they mean the program. And too many posters who hear the University when another poster means the program...
Not missing the point at all. The poster said his friends asked if he were embarrassed to have gone to Richmond. I think it is incredibly stupid that anyone would ask a Richmond grad if they are embarrassed about their school, no matter how their sports programs are doing.

The results of the basketball program the past 8 (especially the last 2) seasons is embarrassing. Looking at this game and the past 2 years a whole, how anyone can argue that we should stay the course with this program is beyond me. UMass is a total disaster and they absolutely dominated us in this game. Again and again we are destroyed on the boards and don’t offer much resistance on defense. It’s an unwatchable product and it has to change.
I can agree with those who are not a fan of getting beat on the boards every night to save transition points on defense. Offensive rebounds frustrate a team when they have to play defense back-to-back possessions, and also offensive rebounds give you a better chance to get guys in foul trouble on putbacks. Analytics might argue otherwise, but this is another reason why analytics are not a tell-all.
Richmond basketball performance is an embarrassment. This fact is completely evident to all except about 200-300 glad-handers and others that surround (or get an income from) this program.
Yes, an embarrassment. Had lunch with 3 UVA grads today, taking Wahoo hoops. Amongst a bunch of UVA hoops talk... "What the hell is going on with UR"?
There's alot of this going on out here. Again, probably not evident to the glad handers and access cravers, living on their own small planet, but that doesnt mean it isnt happening.

Yes, absolute embarrassment. And for added embarrassment, some would actually do nothing to address the issues with the program. We dump a bunch of money in facilities and the basketball program and then accept losing. That’s embarrassing.
