Assassination Attempt on Trump

I bet they will find that the secret service requested more support and it was denied by Alejardra Mayorkas and ultimately by President Biden.

The rhetoric from President Biden has been reprehensible.

In a Politico article shared Monday, Biden reportedly told donors: “I have one job, and that’s to beat Donald Trump. I’m absolutely certain I’m the best person to be able to do that. So, we’re done talking about the debate, it’s time to put Trump in a bullseye.”

Why wasn't a secret service agent placed on the building where the shooter was? Why weren't there more assets in place?

What happened was terrible. Too many people have guns in this country, especially assault rifles. Which party has tried to make assault rifles illegal?

And the guy who took the shots apparently was a registered Republican. So maybe you should blame the crazies from your own party.

When right-wing scum tried to kidnap Gretchen Whitmer, Republicans made excuses. When a lunatic beat Paul Pelosi with a hammer, they made jokes. And when Trump sent a mob to attack the Capitol, they made up lies. Don’t lecture me about condemning violence.

I read that too, but I am pretty sure that shot came from the left. If you registered as a Republican, no one would believe it either.

First, I would never do something as stupid as taking a shot at anyone, much less a presidential candidate. Second, I certainly wouldn't do something even stupider and register as a Republican.

As you guys are wont to say after every mass shooting, now isn't the time to talk politics. Thoughts and prayers.

PS: The shooter has been positively identified as a registered Republican. Why would someone from his own party try to kill him?

Of course Trump's own lawyer said he could have his rival assassinated. Don't just blame the left, neither side has totally clean hands.

A few statements have come out about him.

20 years old, Registered Republican, donor to ActBlue, Democrat mother, Libertarian Father…

We may need to wait a day or two for a better picture…

I was a hunter and outdoorsman. I owned at one point 3 shotguns and when I stopped hunting, they
went to people who were hunters and I knew very well. But I cannot understand why a military assault rifle should ever be
be allowed for public use. I know people who own two ARs and go target shooting and use for quote
“Home Defense”. They also own other firearms, but nothing is for hunting. Shooting clays and paint ball and target
Practice with a small caliber pistol or rifle is acceptable. Why does some need a gun which holds more than 5-6 bullets
and can be adjusted to rapid fire? May be for those there is more scrutiny and longer and more detailed clearance process.
Also require gun safety courses before release of firearms like a drivers license.

Amen to all of that. The gun crowd will say that it's none of our business what type of arms they choose to own, it's their constitutional right to own them. But of course they aren't allowed to own a nuclear warhead or Apache helicopter, so the line has been drawn somewhere and can (and should) be adjusted.

Bill Barr has it right.

"The bottom line I think is that when someone is demonized to the extent Trump was being demonized, you are putting a target on them, and you are increasing the risk they are going to become a target for someone who has a mixture of these factors -- imbalance, some potential political element to it. They become the target."

Corey Comperatore saved his family by covering his daughters and wife with his body. Greatness was found in the actions of a retired firefighter and a humble and lovingfather. Heroes abound in the most unlikely way.

"A real-life superhero': Man killed at Trump rally lauded for his final act — protecting his family."

"In Corey Comperatore’s final moment, he did what came naturally to the father of two daughters: He protected his family. With his own life.

“He shielded my body from the bullet that came at us,” one daughter, Allyson Comperatore, wrote in a social media post. “He loved his family. He truly loved us enough to take a real bullet for us.”

His wife said he “died the hero he always was.”

“Corey was a girl-dad. Corey was a firefighter. Corey went to church every Sunday,” the governor said at a press conference in Butler.

Flags in Pennsylvania will fly at half-staff.

When you behave like a demon, you don't get to cry foul when you are demonized.

You mean like when the right calls Biden, worst President ever, demented, a threat to America, destroying the family and American life.

The ability to disagree with some one without demonizing the one with whom you disagree is needed on all sides. Ad hominem attacks sadly have become normative to the detriment of civil discourse.

We should all be supportive of President Trump and we should have those who were injured and murdered in our thoughts and prayers. This was a devastating event that could have been much worse.

Wait? What? Does that mean I have to return my B21 that I acquired for home defense?

I thought a stealth bomber would be very effective for that purpose…

Let's boil this down: A registered Republican, living in MAGAville Pennsylvania, took a shot at his own party's candidate with a weapon Republicans think should be legal to carry everywhere.

I feel compassion and empathy for the family of the man who was killed, and for the other victims. Not for Trump; you reap what you sow, and he's sown nothing but hatred for the past eight years.

So would you prefer that he had been shot? The man was within an inch of losing his life. A little compassion is in order.

I personally wouldn't want him killed, but considering that his ineptitude directly led to the deaths of tens of thousands of people during the height of the pandemic, I'm also not surprised that someone did.

Bill Barr needs to look at the violent rhetoric in his own party. Here are a few examples cited by Heather Cox Richardson:

"•Trump’s own suggestion in 2016 that “Second Amendment people” could solve the problem of Hillary Clinton picking judges; or his 2020 attacks on Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer, who became the target of a kidnapping plot; or election workers bombarded with death threats as Trump lied that the 2020 election was stolen;

•the October 2022 tweet by Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr. mocking then–House speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband Paul after a home intruder hit him in the head with a hammer; or Georgia representative Marjorie Taylor Greene’s 2022 campaign video in which she promised to “blow away the Democrats’ socialist agenda” as she took aim with a rifle;

•in 2023, House Republicans wearing AR-15 lapel pins on the floor of Congress; Representative Don Bacon (R-NE) saying his wife slept with a loaded gun after he voted against Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH) for House speaker; or Republican representatives sending Christmas cards showing the whole family toting guns;

•in 2024, the Kansas Republican Party’s March fundraiser where attendees could donate to kick and punch an effigy of President Biden; or Don Jr.’s reposting an image of Biden bound and gagged in the back of a pickup truck;

•or Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson of North Carolina, who is running for the governorship and who is scheduled to speak at the Republican National Convention starting tomorrow, saying just two weeks ago: “Some folks need killing! It’s time for somebody to say it.”

Indeed, in March 2024, in Vance’s home state, Trump said: if I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a bloodbath for the whole…country,” and a 2022 campaign ad by Representative Collins himself showed him shooting a rifle at Nancy Pelosi’s “agenda” and at a cardboard rhinoceros he says is a “RINO,” a Republican in Name Only."

"This type of rhetoric needs to stop."

Republicans make it so easy. The guy Trump picks to be his veep is the same guy who called him "America's Hitler."

In their heart of hearts, deep, deep down inside, half or more of the Republican leadership woke up Sunday morning wishing the guy would have been a better shot. You know it's true.

Wood, I know you were repeating what you believed others were saying. But let's be better and not "wish" any of our leaders to be killed.
