Around the A-10: 2024–25 Edition

UMass beats Fordham, 120–118 in triple OT.

And powerful Dayton now sits at 1–3 in the A-10 after falling at home to Mason. Third straight loss for the Flyers.
Setting up nicely for the Broad St Boys. They seem like the only true “top” team.

LaSalle and Duquesne also victorious over Davidson and GW.

Glad that GW, UMass and GMU are better than UConn, Marquette, and Northwestern.

See the A10 is a tough league…😜

As if it couldn't get worse for Fordham, they just suspended Urgo for 4 games for "recruiting violations."

Uhhhhh, what? How do you commit recruiting violations in the NIL era?

They probably gave some kids family a free meal or something like that.

feels like something you'd do if looking for 'For Cause' groundwork. But idk why. he was loved year 1 and it's Fordham.

lol to the Neubauer reference in the twitter comments.

I always liked Neubauer tho. I once ran into him in the poker room at Caeser's in Vegas. Respect. Pre Fordham when he was coach at EKU.

Not an Urgo fan - Was annoying imo during their single good year ...

A10 is essentially killing itself, especially Dayton. Needed them and likely VCU to rise to the top to get more than 1 bid, but right now leaning more on Mason at this point. Still a lot of games left, and if Dayton can put together a nice 5-6 game win streak here - they might play themselves back to bubble and bid status.

In other news - how about W&M? They are 5-1 and tied for top of CAA, and are 7-0 at home. They have 3 very winnable games in Hampton, Campbell, and Monmouth coming up - before playing Charleston - one of teams tied for 1st as well. I expected a turnaround in Williamsburg, but not this fast. Not saying our loss to them is any good - we should always beat W&M, but interesting to see the success they are having year 1 down there.

Coaching change breathes life into program stuck in neutral. Hmmm, never would have expected that.

What a crazy stat for VcU in A10 play this year… they get an offensive rebound on 44% of their shots. Almost half of their misses become an offensive rebound? Thats impressive. What do we think CM teams % is over the years?
VCU is on their way to the dance again. 16-4 45 NET. They will roll thru the A10 and roll thru Mooney.
Im sorry all but I will root for VCU this year. They have a program that cares about winning and an admin that respects their fanbases expectations. There is no longer much of a rivalry between UR and VCU because of Mooney and the UR admin’s incompetence. Comparing the programs is like comparing the Jets with the Patriots and the Chiefs.

Well, they actually play a legit OOC schedule and then win on that schedule. 2 things we seem incapable of doing. But yeah, a Q4 loss should drop your more than 7 spots.
It doesnt matter, Dayton is toast. No way they will be considered for an at large. Shocking how poorly they have done against bad A10 teams. I should have known… any team counting on Posh Alexander to play a prominent role is not ideal. He is not very good.

Also heard you make approx 78% of the second shots off OR.

That's blasphemous re: rooting sorta like student17 saying he'd donate to VCU. But the rest is right.

Many ppl disputed when I said VCU was going to be & deserved to be consensus #1. Incredulous almost. But the cream rises to the top. remember they had like 4 players when Odom took over. They had to bring in Jason Nelson! But good hires and culture overcomes.

we basically never beat vcu when we can kill or really damage vcu when they're in ncaa mix. Once in 2022 tourney. we have chances again. we won't. our culture doesn't help. you'd think we'd be embarassed to be the punching bag to vcu. we aren't. u will never hear Moon talk about needing to beat VCU, that we expect & have to win, to hold up our end of bargain as rival. u will hear compete again. That is what 9-25 does to u. it's a burden the players carry too. who has confidence when u have the WORST rivalry coach of ALL time. nobody. not the coaches, admin, players or fans. ho hum.

one week until armageddon day. Seeing what they have been doing to other A10 teams we are going to have a hard time keeping it within 20. ho hum indeed.

The VCU fans have loved Mooney for years. But after awhile it has to be a bit boring for them, with Richmond not a legit rival anymore. Guessing they are just concerned how playing us affects their NET. But it does take the fun out of it on both sides.

I think the Mensa society is going to be watching this on tonight: Kid Nepotism vs mooniocrity. Who will blow it last???

Sure, but when they don't get the offensive rebounds I am certain the other team scores on a fast break. Lol!

VCU has again risen to the top. I am still not a firm believer in Mason, but they just keep winning at this point.

Dayton - I would not count them out just yet. They have been disappointing in the A10, but they have won 3 in a row and their next 3, if they can win those - @Bonnies, @St. Louis, Davidson - then they might be back on the bubble talk. Then the 4th game in that stretch - is VCU at home - so really, they need to win the next 4 games to have a shot at re-entering the NCAA talk.

VCU is going to destroy us, particularly at their place. Mooney usually gets blown out there when he has decent teams, so I can only imagine what is going to happen this year. Odom is not calling off the dogs either, we are a Quad 4 opponent for them, and for NET purposes they need to beat us by as many points as possible.

Correct. But more than usually. virtually always.

Perhaps these stats are better for later in the week, but here's a sneak peek...

Moon is 2-14 at VCU. His average loss is 15 pts. Average! His closest losses at VCU are 7 & 8 pts. Every other game is by double digits. We don't even compete there. I'm sure Saturday will go well.

I'm telling u the WORST rivalry coach of ALL TIME. find someone worse. u can't. we have someone at UR who is the best at being the worst. At little ol' Richmond. plus u add in his home & neutral losses he's still averaging a double digit loss to VCU in all games. 34 games. There is nobody else like him. and our attitude is thank you may I have another.

Ha, I knew you would bring the receipts. 2-14, average loss of 15 points. I knew it was bad, didn't know it was this bad. Mooney must have night terrors centered around being trapped at Siegel. Thank god, we pay him 7 figures to do this for us.

We could literally pull any one of us off the message board to coach the team and we literally would be hard pressed to do worse.

You have better odds of finding proof of life on Venus than getting @AnnapSpider to address these pathetic statistics.

The constant is CM. The variable is who is coaching VCU. And it doesn’t matter who is coaching VCU. They just own Mooney.

The main outlier would appear to be January 2018 we went there with a worse D1 record than this season 4-13.
Golden and Gilyard figured out how to play that day, and we walked out with a 15 point win.

I was there and it was a glorious night - bought last minute tickets from VCU directly that had opened up cheap given the snow event that was going on - I won't be there Sat night for sure.
