Apostolos Roumoglou - Transfer Commit

As we had been expecting for a few days now, UConn transfer Apostolos 'Tolo' Roumoglou is officially on board.

6'8 G/Wing, two years of eligibility.

Two days, two transfers from Michigan and UConn respectively. Let's go!

Gonna miss this kid at uconn. Showed flashes in very limited time. Shooting and taking it to the hole trying to dunk it. Obviously didn't get enough minutes on the court but looked liked he had potential. Looking forward to watching a few Richmond games this year and seeing what he can do with more minutes.

Having another team's fan base come on and tell us positive things is refreshing and encouraging. Really like how Mooney is both targeting kids from lower conferences who have excelled, as well as players from P6 schools who have a lot of pedigree but just haven't gotten the opportunity to show it at the college level.

Boom! Love this. Our system needs shooters all over the court. If he can shoot he’ll be in there and have the green light. His size for a shooter is something I love.

I have a feeling that after last year’s team was so defensively oriented, this year’s team is going to be one that looks to just flat outscore everyone and aim for a fast tempo.

Yes, that's what it seems on the surface. I do think with Beagle and Walz (and hopfully healthy Soulis) we will be pretty stout and have some rim protection on the inside. DLo and Tyne play some D. Hopefully Apostolos picked some up at Uconn.

Seems like everyone at UCONN loved him. And a lot think he could do real well here. A lot of the talk says lights out shooter. A UCONN friend said "athletic and can hit the 3".

Winning a couple championships helps, but this guy is beloved at UConn- fans, coaches, teammates, everybody. It’s hard to say how his ability translates to performance on the court because of his limited game minutes, but the UConn staff was supporting him in finding a new program that could work and he’s had the benefit of being part of elite practices for two years. His teammates’ reactions here are so good-

Most believe he fits Richmond system well, looking for big things. Active Greek population in Richmond area so he should have some cultural comfort also.

One thing that has been highlighted and repeated on the shows discussing Hurley and the Lakers is his ability in player development. If that is accurate is another positive indicator for Glue. This guy has the most intrigue for me going into next year (closely followed by GW3). If Glue is a high level wing with the ability to hit the 3, we will be in business as very good team on the national level, not just A10 imo.

Great point 23. You know Hurley’s practices were intense and he was up against the nation's top talent every day. I’ve talked a lot about finding someone who can play the 3 for us. We’re optimistic about the new freshmen, Tanner, or Roche coming back from injury and filling that role. However if Glou can fill in that role, that would be most ideal in my opinion. Especially with his size and ability to shoot the 3. Otherwise, I see him backing up Nescovic at the 4 as the other position he would play.

2 more UConn players drafted in the 2nd round for a total of 4 in this years NBA draft. 7% of the players drafted came from UConn.

Case in point, any transfer out we have ever had who went to a smaller school and didn't do much - Verbinskis, etc.

I do like that the UConn fans seem to believe in him, that he has great size and that he's supposedly a lights out shooter. Those things give me the most hope that he's poised to succeed with opportunity.

I don't see it as practicing against other good players make you good but rather there were so many really good players at UConn that he was buried on the depth chart. We will all find out shortly enough if that was the case.

I see it both ways, to supplant all those future NBA guys on the depth chart would require some ELITE 6-star talent anyway. But also I have seen over the years in various hobbies and sports that I have been into, when you play with or against people who are really good at that thing you see noticeable improvement as well.

Yes, agree 97. That is my hope, that he is a very good player, who - obvious to 2 national championships and slew of NBA draftees - was buried. In fact, the wing player they brought in - Liam McNeely - was a top 10 hs recruit and already being touted as a one and done high pick in the draft next year. So, again, the hope is that Apostolos is more like a top 100 equivalent talent - just stuck behind and getting recruited over by top 25 type college talent.
While I agree with Brooklyn, it does not really mean he will translate practicing against top guys to performing in a D1 game - it STILL would seem to be one of the best opportunities to get better, compared to practicing against average players.

Interesting little side note, turned on ESPN and Woj was talking about having gone to same HS as Donovan Clingan (Bristol Central) and how you don't have to go to all these elite prep and private schools to develop. Really though, he is an exception, and does not hurt to be 7'2 with good footwork. But he did come out of h.s. with good footwork, good demeanor and work ethic. I will say, when I got to watch an NEPSAC game vs local h.s. game in CT - the level of play is really different - and more resembles a college game than a public hs game.
