An embarrassment

Some of you may remember back in the 70's when the school's mantra was "we're committed to excellence." This was when we were going independent in fb and seriously upgrading the schedule . No one believed we were committed to excellence then. We wanted it but weren't committed to it. Same today with basketball.

From a perspective of a neutral that was by far our most entertaining game of the season.

I just finished watching and I think you’re crazy to have your takeaway be that we are an embarrassment for losing to an incredible davidson team with the longest win streak in the country. At this point it’s just complaining for the sake of complaining. If you’re going to call us an embarrassment after every loss then just say when the season starts 30-0 is your minimum standard because it’s the only thing that you all ultimately will accept.

That was a hell of a game and we played incredible. We just ran into a team that played even better. Losing to a red hot team is not an embarrassment.
We were down 16-2 to start. Thats an embarrassment itself at home and has happened numerous times this season already. Team comes out sleeping. Thats on Moondog and yes, we arent just complaining about this one game. We are complaining about 10 straight years of disappointment and ineptitude from a coach who never improves and is complacent with losing.

Hardt specifically said “compete for championships” when he decided to keep CM after the back to back 20-loss seasons.

Of course, that will mean different things to folks,
that was over 2 years ago, has it been said this year?

Takes them a while to wake up after the pre-game pep talk.

I’m not sure Hardt has said anything in the past two years except a brief announcement to bring back Huesman.

I didn’t think it was possible to be more absent than Gill but he’s achieved the impossible.
I suspect that Hardt is absent on purpose, reducing the chance that he has to talk about the dumpster fire that he is responsible for fueling. He certainly doesn't want to have to justify answers to the public.

JH makes KG looks like a innovator of his time in hindsight. Has the SBC humming while we try and PR our way out of another disappointing season.

1-3 is the embarrassment

it was a good game but in the end it still just one more loss in a very disappointing season

I agree with this post. However, what’s embarrassing is Mooney continuing to play Wilson and doing nothing to try to change the tide of the season. I mean how can we keep playing the same starting 5? It’s infuriating the in-game management from never calling timeouts / making the right sub to never making offensive or defensive adjustments (I mean how many times can you allow Golden to unnecessarily assist on the perimeter on defense before changing something!)

Mooney calls timeouts … just at the times that no other head coach in college basketball does. He’s an innovator and smarter than everyone else. Remember, he went to Princeton.
Are you saying most coaches call a timeout when the opponent is making a run instead of when your team is? How very odd…

Well, he would have to be very critical of our current situation if he has publicly stated that championships and winning are the priority. If he is critical, then he would have to act to change things, which he soesnt have the balls or knowledge to do. If he comes out and says he thinks things are going fine, then all will know he is a disingenuos moron who cares nothing about success.
So he hides.

Sure feels like the enemy of great is John Hardt …and I wouldn’t call him good enough 😂😂😂
The reality is people like Hardt & Mooney get by but should be sent packing instead with a goodbye.

I think you may be right but I am sure he is paying attention. But I also think that is part of the problem, lack of contact with the average fan. All he has to do is give the fan a chance to voice his/her opinion say thank you we will consider your thoughts and a decision will be made at the end of the season. He could ask a few probing questions if he wanted. He's not good at building relationships.

I don’t quite understand how anyone gets to that level without being able to foster personal relationships, especially in a public/alumni-focused forum. It’s almost like one person he had a relationship with picked him for the job…

He went on the radio show a few years ago and took some of our calls. He didn't like the questions and slithered back to his office never to interact with the lowly fans again. Weak sauce.

I sent him an email during the Toledo game when we were getting waxed expressing the concensus opinion of the posters here. Three days later he emailed me a response thanking me for my interest and for being a long time season ticket holder in fb and bb. He said he was looking forward to the rest of the season and mentioned the thrilling come from behind victory over Toledo. So there you go.

This is pretty much what it's come to. Expectations for Hardt, BOT, any admin with responsibilities for sports are so low. I really don't expect anything from them other than continuation of the same. It's a safe course. Making real decisions is just too much of a challenge. Notice I didn't say hard decisions because at this point the body of work speaks loudly for change. This is not a second guessing decision or walking a fine line.

Competing for championships is nothing more than a catch phrase for our basketball program thanks to the empty suits tasked with mgmt decisions. Empty words from those empty suits.
You play to win the game. Here at Richmond we accept losing. All for donations and empty seats.
