Well, Jason Nelson is a pretty good local kid who chose us. So is Sherod. And Buckingham.
True, but those are not top level BCS recruits either and I think that was the refence point. Nelson had a Vandy offer (nice but not exactly a P6 powerhouse). Sherod, I think had a Tech and Texas Tech offers. Buck had a bunch of nice P6 offers but if I recall most of the big boys backed off Buck after an injury. Honestly, every recruit we sign should have a BCS offer or two, that is the level we should be hitting at in, my opinion. And then maybe we hit on an even bigger recruit because we get the local connections, ala Billups in this discussion.Well, Jason Nelson is a pretty good local kid who chose us. So is Sherod. And Buckingham.
Adubthe3rd?If we are talking about Top 100 local kids that had us in their final list, aren't we missing an obvious name? That always pops up here every time he transfers?
Kneepad, respect the analysis there. You are correct, neither us or VCU is getting the big time local talent. As Trap, points out though, VCU is going out and getting big time local talent outside of RVA though, whereas we haven't.I understand your point, and I would love to secure a Henry Coleman now and again.
I think I'm just reacting to the absolutism on here: we NEVER are in on good local kids and VCU ALWAYS gets top local kids.
But the facts are that we were indeed mentioned (actually, offered) Robbie Beran and Joe Bamisile. And taking on Bamisile this offseason was a terrible roster fit, so saying we "missed" twice is incorrect.
And a quick scan suggests that VCU has exactly 0 players from Virginia, much less Richmond.
And of the four recent total local players that fit into the "top 100" category: Bamisile, Coleman, Efton Reid, Roosevelt Wheeler, neither of UR or VCU have secured them.
We will find out if this holds with Billups decision this afternoon.Kneepad, respect the analysis there. You are correct, neither us or VCU is getting the big time local talent.
Indeed. We will find out if this holds with Billups decision this afternoon.
Heat Check vs. 97. Sorry 97 gotta go with Heat Check here.We will find out if this holds with Billups decision this afternoon.
Jinxed us with the @Eight Legger kiss of death. You are correct, neither us or VCU is getting the big time local talent. As Trap, points out though, VCU is going out and getting big time local talent outside of RVA though, whereas we haven't.
VCU was the first Division I offer Billups received and it came one day after his birthday in April 2020. The staff, who Billups said have been in contact with him almost every single day since then, told him he could be the next star inside the Stuart C. Siegel Center.
“They think I can be the next Bones Hyland,” Billups said. [...]
“One day, he woke up and said, ‘You know what, I want to go to VCU,’” Atkins recalled Billups telling him. “‘I want to stay home and be legendary in my own town.’”
Well, crap. VCU wins again. I wonder if Mooney is as tired as I am of VCU beating us on the court, getting to the NCAA's, and getting top notch recruits each year. That's a joke of course. His 1.3 million annual paycheck comes whether he beats VCU in any capacity or not. But man, do you got pride? Cause I wanna see some f*cking pride. That ship has sailed tooHeat Check vs. 97. Sorry 97 gotta go with Heat Check here.
