Firing Mooney this off season is as real as the moon is made of blue cheese. If Queally wants Mooney to stay he stays. Sadly what you and I think is meaningless.
Because this is the 2nd or 3rd time the same stuff happens. Reasonable people give people 2-3 chances. After 3 chances, it becomes obvious to even those with rose colored glasses. Maybe I’ll be wrong, but i think even the casual fan knows it’s time to move onSeems you haven't been around long enough to see how it's done. This team will win 18-19 games, be top 5 in conference, and lose in 2nd round of A-10 tournament. Just like most years, so what changes after this season?
It was plainly obvious 17-years ago, I called for Mooney's removal at that time. So, even though I wish you were right, history says otherwise.Because this is the 2nd or 3rd time the same shit happens. Reasonable people give people 2-3 chances. After 3 chances, it becomes obvious to even those with rose colored glasses. Maybe I’ll be wrong, but i think even the casual fan knows it’s time to move on
Never joined Facebook, is this serious or facetious? If serious may have to join up haha.Just look at the comments on any post on the Spiders' basketball Facebook page after we lose. People are lighting them up like a Christmas tree.
It's fairly tame compared to much of the Facebook cesspool, but certainly a lot of criticism. The highlight of today was Julius Johnson jumping in to defend the guys and the program.Never joined Facebook, is this serious or facetious? If serious may have to join up haha.
I understand why he’d be defensive, but does that suggest that he does “like it”?Julius with some Matt Smith energy on FB.
"If yall don't like it go watch another team."
It's pretty easy to see the loyalty displayed by former & current players. That's an admirable trait. The bigger question is their objectivity and results of where the program has been & still is for the last 10 years. To defend a coach who has never taken the the players to an NCAA tournament is a lot to digest year in & year out. Understandable from a player's perspective, but those of us who have followed the program since we were students and long term alumni, there's a different perspective. It's fairly tame compared to much of the Facebook cesspool, but certainly a lot of criticism. Defend a coach that hasn't won a regular season title. Has won the A-10 ONCE in ten years. And currently 3-4 and praises playing in the Bahamas. We forced overtime against a tough opponent. Miss.st isn't even ranked in top 25 for basketball. Miss.st. is known for football not basketball Mooney. You must have your sports messed up.The players defending Mooney I get....he's a big reason why they came here and they don't have the perspective to really know what it was like with real coaches here who actually won. But at some point, they deserve what they get. You want a mediocre coach teaching you how to be soft, not rebound and never win close games that you should? Congratulations, you've got it.
An ex player telling fans to eff off and find another team to cheer for. Hmm, sounds like a really healthy dynamic we have going on here. The players defending Mooney I get....he's a big reason why they came here and they don't have the perspective to really know what it was like with real coaches here who actually won. Probably by the same 10 people who whine on here all day.Totally serious. There are like 20+ comments on every post after a loss, pretty much all negative. It's never been like this before. Everyone realizes this is a pathetic disaster.

Give him a few minutes to go move the goalposts.so how do u think things are going?
Who appear to be far more realistic than the 4 who are stuck so far up Mooney's backside they can count his fillings.Probably by the same 10 people who whine on here all day.
My nearly 82 year old mother throughout both bahama games couldn't stop questioning why we don't even seemingly attempt off rebounds ... I had no good response.Shoot even the little old ladies who always offer positive praise of our players on FB (and attack anyone who says otherwise) are suddenly pretty silent as well. It's like maybe people are tired of it, finally.
Sounds like we just found our new coach! My nearly 82 year old mother throughout both bahama games couldn't stop questioning why we don't even seemingly attempt off rebounds ... I had no good response.

I think players being loyal as others have said is admirable. But one of the reasons is Mooney has been loyal to them (throughout the years) - - - to a fault and without finding a way to be both loyal and hold them accountable to improve, correct etc (and JJ is a great example). Now everyone is just loyal to the status quo because there is no graceful way off the merry-go round of communal loyalty. Who will be first to "turn" is a silly question at this point as it wont be anyone - - - so the only way to break it up is a change forced by the admin. And be sure of one thing and as much as I want Mooney gone, we'll be worse next year (and without Burton for sure) and maybe for many years! We won't get any better with him though thats for sure. What he's done (and the admin has totally enabled) is run the program into a black hole where there really is no good way out! It's pretty easy to see the loyalty displayed by former & current players. I also think what gets lost is that almost no one here thinks Mooney is a bad person. I’ve met him, heard the stories about him, see the positive impacts he’s had on so ma y peoples lives. He’s a great guy! He just isn’t the right person to coach basketball at Richmond any more…. We need a change for a multitude of reasons.I think players being loyal as others have said is admirable. That's basically what I increasingly think as well .. I would rather have a Chris Mooney over a Will Wade any day and don't like the idea of a revolving door every 3 to 5 years but also need to go to tourney games again before I am too old to. (and not to complain too much, I didn't have too much fun in San Antonio for the KS Sweet 16 game)I also think what gets lost is that almost no one here thinks Mooney is a bad person. I would take a revolving door every 3-5 years if it meant that we went to the tourney 2-3 of those years, and then our coach is poached. Sure, I hope we find our version of Mark Few (sans DUI), but a winning program is what I’m looking for more than a winning coach. That's basically what I increasingly think as well .. I understand. At least it ended after 4 years. Sorry i got the benefit of arriving at UR when John Beilein did. There has been worse absolute pathetic garbage I have to say from someone who experienced the 1st 3 years of Dooley's years as a student... and best bball memory in those years was heading down to Chapel Hill to see our '96 team shockingly give UNC a reasonable game at the Dean Dome.

All I’ve known is 1 year of Wainwright and Mooney. At least I was an Accepted Student for Wainwright’s win at Kansas?I understand. At least it ended after 4 years. Sorry i got the benefit of arriving at UR when John Beilein did.

I would add Dick knew when he no longer had the needed fire and stepped aside. The difference in all the other coaches is we knew they would leave after a few years one way or the other. Was glad Tarrant stayed and his age worked in our favor for him staying. With the rest of our coaches we knew they had to produce and if they did they would have other opportunites and move up even if we wanted them to stay and if they didn't they would be given the option to resign. Now we are in the same ole zone year after year. Hype preseason, season starts there is hope, we play a game, or two, or three and first unpredicted loss, then another, and another and sadly we all know the rest..................
Exactly. No one can look at the results this past decade and say "Yep, this was an amazing success – there's no way we could have done any better!" Anyone who says or thinks that is loyal to the wrong things or people. My question to the player making such a statement, same with an announcer or the voice of the programs -- are you loyal to the person or the University? If they don't like the term loyal, are you looking out for the best interest of the University or the person?
