When Dayton comes to town, they will have only 70 hours of rest since their last game. It will be their 4th tough game in a row. They will have played VCU at home, at SLU, Bonnies at home, and UR at the Robins Center. Like the Spiders, Dayton plays on Wednesday, but they will travel on Friday.

Won't we only have 69 hours of rest by that same calculation? I doubt the timing is significant...although perhaps having a slightly tougher run will matter. At home certainly helps us, we do not play well at UD.

Coming off the huge game vs Dayton, we then go right into the match up with the Lambs on Tuesday. Lambs had not been looking good - but really kick started it vs Bonnies. Hyland in for the guy Rhoades stole with him from Rice sure seemed to have a positive impact. Hopefully he goes back to the other guy against us, and leaves dem Bones on the bench.

Dayton is #5 in both NET and KenPom. They have yet to crack the Top 10 in either poll, but those will update tomorrow.

Is it possible Dayton would be the highest ranked team to visit the Robins Center? I remember storming the court after beating nationally-ranked Georgia Tech but I don't think they were that high.

St. Joe's was #1 when they came in that year, I believe. 2003 or 2004, sometime around then.
That's a good one. St. Joe's finished #1 at the end of the regular season, but according to Basketball Reference they were #9 when they came to Richmond in January.

UNC came in #3 in 1987 and #4 in 1997. Wake Forest came in #3 in 1996.

Temple was #12 or so, when they came in maybe 2010. We beat them and the court was stormed. That was early in the Mooney era.

It was still early in the season when they came here undefeated in 2004. They were 11-0 and ranked 9th in the AP then.
We weren’t a pushover that year and they destroyed us. One of my favorite opponent teams to have ever watched. Best team I’ve seen in the Robins center as a STH. Real shame they couldn’t close it with a final four.

Yep, that was back when a lot of power teams gave you home and homes if you wanted them. Not the case anymore.

Jameer Nelson was too much for us that game. As he was for a lot of teams that year. Great player and great team.

Oh come on ............the court was stormed because my grandson won the baby race..........it was 2010...bad snowstorm...............but great game!

Better not overlook LaSalle Wednesday night...we can't look past anyone.............on paper we should win, but that was also the case before the Radford game............10 and 7 overall and 1-4 in the A-10.....let's focus on LaSalle until after that game..................

True. It was - made two trips down to Chapel Hill. We actually gave them a pretty good scare during their first or second game of the year in 96 if i remember correctly.

You are exactly correct but I will add that it was just before the Christmas break and we did take them very lightly.....I hope and from what I have seem we have learned from that experience...

Of course we were a pushover, ask Kansas.

Back in the 80s individual schools seem to host the early tournaments. That helped get UNC, G Tech...

IIRC, that was the old Times-Dispatch Invitational, which they held around the holidays.
I think it was the CFB around thanksgiving. TDIT near christmas had a lot of Virginia teams.

Back in the day, we also had the premier women's tournament in the nation. Pretty awesome in retrospect. Used to sell the place out and get Tennessee, ODU and whoever else was a top-5 women's team.

I remember Tennessee, USC, and I think Maryland...

They're a bunch of 19 and 20 year olds. Geez, how much rest do they need? When I was that age, we called 70 hours a vacation....

Yeah, couldn’t have asked for better results tonight... SLU, Bona and Duquesne lose, and we already have the tiebreaker over Rhody. Second place baby! Let’s take the top spot Saturday. Statement game for Mooney.

One of the highest profile games we have had at Robins - the #7 team with a probable first round NBA draft pick in Obi Toppin. A huge challenge - the crowd will be pumped - and first place in the A-10 on the line. Let's win this game..................

It will be interesting to see the betting line on this game. Without Francis and considering we were underdogs @Davidson, I have a feeling Vegas is going to disrespect UR and make us big underdogs at home.
Dayton looks as good as any A10 team in the past several years, so its going to be a tough game. Lucky for us it is at home. We need a good student turnout. 6 pm on a Saturday - go to the game and go straight to the fraternity lodges right after.

Dayton is super talented. Someone find my post from earlier in the year when I said they had by far most talent on roster in the A10, was surprised more were not picking them to win the A10.

Saw some tweets from Dayton fans claiming they were better than SDSU - and can't say I disagree. SDSU lost best big man, and has ZERO top 100 recruits on the roster - not super talented but plays some of best defense in the nation. Great, motivated coach - kind of a semi Dick Tarrant story.

But man, Dayton is talented and will come at us from all angles, and then lob it over the D to Toppin. Should be a super atmosphere. Great to see after the last couple years. Hoping Mooney is scoping out that Nate Sestina / Yanni Wetzel type of grad transfer to add to the front line next year. It is acheivable and we have the perfect roster to sell it. Just need to do it.

I’d imagine the student turnout will be above average, but I checked the UR website and they were selling tickets in the student section. So the section will be packed regardless of who is actually in the section.

If I'm Mooney, I'm starting all five walkons and offering Verbinskis's second semester scholarship money to whichever one of them takes Toppin out of the game in the first three minutes of action...

:D

Until they lose {wink, wink} I expect by far the 4 closes betting lines for Dayton will be:
@VCU by 4
@UR by 6
@URI by 6
@Duquesne by 7

But Dayton will be favored in every game the rest of the season (until it is proven wrong).
