A-10 Offseason Thread

It will be interesting to see where Paschall lands as I think in the right program he has a bright future. He will not doubt land outside the A10 so really this just keeps Fordham in the basement when he leaves.

Johnson going to LaSalle will keep them in the hunt, although it would really help them if he could play next year. Wonder if there is any chance he could get a waiver because of the Syracuse sanctions?

I think Paschall is going to blow up, that kid has game. Found this interesting about him (from NY Post earlier today):

"Paschall orally committed to Fordham as a 16-year-old junior at Dobbs Ferry.
He had also been offered by West Virginia, Providence, Iona, Radford,
George Mason, Northwestern, VCU, Quinnipiac and Manhattan."

So he picked Fordham over WVU, Providence, Northwestern and VCU. Really, really odd decision in my mind.

Guess he had a good relationship with Pecora and one of the assistant coaches.

An important consideration for any school that cans its coach. Players probably leave at the same time.

I could see Northwestern as a good fit. Big Ten competition. And also play for Collins from Duke taking over the program. They will make the NCAA tourney at some point - and if your a part of that team, you go down in Northwestern history.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe if you transfer within the A-10, you must sit out two years. So basically, no one will ever do that.

Paschal is a stud. He will have no shortage of suitors if he wants to leave. Villanova would be my guess.

They've only given him permission to reopen his recruiting to prior offers I think, so I don't know that Villanova was on that list. I would concur that an A10 transfer is not an option for a variety of reasons.

But he will definitely have some options.

We have an A-10 rookie of the year playing his last home game tonight. I wish our announcer would sneak in a long Kendaaaaaaaaal Annnnnnnnnnthony for us one last time.

TBone, here is where I read about the Villanova option. I can't imagine him staying at Fordham under any circumstances at this point. I also can't figure out why he went there to begin with, but if you can transfer up to a 1-seed caliber school (albeit, one that chokes in the second round every year), why wouldn't you?

Indeed, Fordham had more than enough to lure Paschall and placate his family. They visited the Rose Hill Campus on four or five occasions and developed a comfortable relationship with head coach Tom Pecora and assistant coach Tom Parrotta, a Stepinac graduate and former head coach at Canisius.

Juan Paschall admitted the family's comfort factor with the coaching staff and the school's close proximity to home were major positives, particularly in light of Mike Rice situation at Rutgers.

"We always wanted to keep him relatively close to home," Paschall said. "The Atlantic-10 is a great conference. He can get a great education at Fordham. He's staying close to home and we get the best of basketball as well as academics. I'm happy with everything they had at Fordham."

The family also favored Fordham for its relatively small student body, which is reminiscent of Dobbs Ferry, a tiny school district compared to those that produce the vast majority of Division I players.

"He's from a small school and a small town in Dobbs Ferry. He doesn't want to get lost," Juan Paschall said. "Fordham will give him what he needs. They take care of their people."

Yeah, I just saw that Fordham had agreed only to let him re-open to those who had recruited him previously. I interpreted that to mean offers, not everyone, because in theory, anyone that sent him a letter would be considered an option. My interpretation could be wrong.

Regardless, I would absolutely have to think he's considering Villanova if Fordham is letting him talk to them.

I don't understand why that's ok. why are they placing the restriction, and why is that allowed?

Agree, spiderman. Since all of this is happening because the school fired the coach (and assume staff is gone as well), he should only have the 1-year wait no matter where he wants to transfer. Holding any student-athlete hostage like this is simply wrong and just makes Fordham look bad.
