yep Godwin.

Jose Garcia - remember him - was another. recruited by Ole Jer.

But Vassallo was the worst, even tho he would have been gone after Ole Jer went to Depaulful. he stuck with him, even did prep year once denied at UR. But if all ACC Vassallo is in the year b4 like he should have, who knows we might have been good Wainwright's last year and maybe changed the future. Vassallo would have been frosh in Wainwright last year. maybe he kills it & UR wanted to roll with Jerry longer & Mooney never even here.

when I ran into Mike Winiecki at OTB on Broad before the KY Derby and he confirmed the Vassallo thing it was a major downer. Anyone ever go to OTB on Broad? what a god awful yet amazing place.

also I agree the 5 years in 4 is technically still there. I think. but theory only. not in practice. waivers galore. now exceptions for non D1, before that counted. anything goes. just run to state legislature and they'll sue. why idk.
I sure did go to the OTB a few times when it first opened. One of my friends had to file for bankruptcy from going to that place. He made lots of drunk bets.

The response was more supporting what 23 was saying about Rice, “Again, a Rodney Rice type next to a Buddy Simmons type gives you an A+ A10 guard room” rather than stating my own belief that we have to go after him. Although, you never know unless you try, but I ultimately agree with you that the ship has sailed.

I love the discussion, but I think this we are getting too into the weeds about whether Rodney Rice qualifies as a stud impact player who realistically would come to Richmond or not. If on on a scale of 1 to 10, where one is a walk on with no scholarships offers (in it for the love of the game) and 10 is Rodney Rice caliber player (I know there are players better than Rice out there, but I won’t even consider that on this scale because we have no shot at them anyway) then we should be going after players who are a 7-8. Seems to me we are playing it safe and going after players who are a 3-4.

where does Thomas fall on the scale

Hard to say. Don’t really know which other teams were interested/offered him. Not the best stats to start the season with DePaul, which concerns me a bit. More promising though towards the end of the season though. Also don’t like the amount of turnovers. We haven’t had the best track record of players doing well here who transferred down from P5. So I can’t really say a rating definitively. Looks like Tyne will be PG and he will play the 2. Neither Thomas nor Tyne strike me as main guy kind of player we need in that position like Gilly or King were. I want to be optimistic, but I’ll have reserved optimism for now until I see how he does in a game.

"I was definitely looking to go closer to home. I wouldn't mind going to VCU," he said. "I actually did have hope for getting the VCU call."

Doesn’t look good for us.

No Quite the indictment that they have a guy who has been a head coach for hardly any time - but the VCU brand is a draw compared to Mooneyball.

pretty safe to assume a local kid already had a preference growing up between VCU and UR. not shocking it would be VCU with the success they've had. Phil Jr had nothing to do with that.

Right, but part of that is the Mooney brand of lack thereof. That is kind of the point - through multiple coaching changes they have continued to maintain a top program - whereas we seem to say: Who are we going to get to replicate our .550 coach if we get rid of him?

Of course this guy would want to go to VCU.

can't imagine a 3rd guard transfer. I'm betting the offer isn't there anymore after landing 2 guards.
I still want to add a lights out shooting guard to start with Johnston. If we have 2 more spots like fan1 mentioned we might, we can then use the final one for some size/defense.

I want those last 2 spots (if we have them) to be some athletic 3 and D forwards. I think the backcourt room isn't the best, but it is solid. We've got to pick up some A10-level wings now.
I hear u, but I think we need one more lights out shooter. Good guards who can shoot make everyone else better. Guards who can't shoot leads to teams packing it in on D and making it hard on everyone out there. It's a guards game.

I agree with that, but I think Johnston can light it up. I have hope that Thomas can improve his jumper and I think we need some tough glue guys. Jumpers aren't always going to fall, but defense and dudes that can get to the rim consistently and hustle travels. Right now, there are a lot of question marks with the redshirts and freshmen coming in. I have seen Argabright Richardson play multiple times in person, and I like what I have seen, but we have to see how much the freshmen will contribute.
