2024 FCS Preseason Top 25 Hero:Top 25(the analyst)

That projected SOS of 66 in Massey hurts. Worst projected SOS of any CAA team other than ineligible Delaware at 68.

Hope a gaudy record would be enough to still get the bye.

(Just for funsies looking at the Patriot, Holy Cross has a projected SOS of 62 and Colgate at 69. Fordham is at 77 and the rest are in the 80s and 90s.)

“9. To say Richmond players have stepped up this season is an understatement. The CAA leader (8-2, 6-0) has been boosted by transfers from smaller FCS conferences, including running back Zach Palmer-Smith (Wagner, NEC) as its leading rusher and scorer, linebacker Carter Glassmyer (Saint Francis, NEC) its leading tackler and place-kicker Brandon Peskin (Fordham, Patriot League) its No. 2 scorer. The No. 11 Spiders will clinch at least a share of the conference title with a win at Hampton.”

One may conclude that these players would not have come to Richmond, if it was in the Patriot. The CAA is a much better conference.

Why would our current recruits stay, knowing we are going to the PL?
I think the staff knows more about who may be leaving CAA for the PL.
This is not the end of the story.

A Richmond offer will remain attractive because of the value of the degree, the beautiful "leafy" campus, excellent facilities, a staff with the proven ability to develop talent, and some graduates who reach the ultimate goal of playing in the NFL.

I don't see recruiting suffering from the league change. Spiders are still selling the same strong product.

I think many of the incoming recruits knew Spiders were going PL when they committed.
Time will tell when portal opens which guy that were on the roster might want to go, but some are close enough to degree they will likely finish their last bit to get Richmond degree. Maybe some will use RS Senior year as many have done to move along.
Hope that is way it goes anyway.

Quite the comeback for UNH to take down Stony Brook. URI was in trouble for much of their game, and even after they took the lead they needed an INT at their own three and the blocked FG to preserve it in the final minutes.

So at worst, URI can tie us at 7–1 if we lose to W&M and they beat Bryant.

First tiebreaker for the auto bid is head-to-head, so that's out.

Second tiebreaker is record against common CAA opponents, and we would seemingly have that clinched as URI lost to a Delaware team we beat while our loss would be to a W&M team that URI didn't play. I'm assuming Delaware is involved in determining tiebreakers but also that they don't play any other role given they can also finish at 7–1 by beating Villanova next week.

Edit: I don't know why I did the work of figuring it out. UR says we indeed have the auto bid clinched.

A win next week and I think it's impossible to keep us out of a seed, even despite our soft CAA schedule. An undefeated, outright CAA champion has to get one. A loss, though, and it will be easy to bring up our schedule and make us play Thanksgiving weekend.
The seed and subsequent bye would obviously be huge for getting a few guys healthy. Take care of business vs the Tribe…we control our own destiny which few teams do this late in the season.

Lots of work to do here, 11 is not a bye.
These were the results for the poll that was posted reflecting the Nov. 9 results. The schools in front of us that lost on 11/16 are

No. 2 Montana State 30
No. 4 UC Davis 28

FBS Alabama 52
No. 7 Mercer 7

Monmouth 40
No. 9 Villanova 33

Next week- 11/23- The loser of the Montana - Montana State game, probably Montana, will fall after us if we be W&M.

Could not find the link to this, but here is the AGS poll for this week.

Assuming a win over W&M, Herder's bracketology has us as the 7-seed bye hosting the winner of Rhode Island-Lehigh. I'd absolutely take that.

Only the coaches poll is explicitly mentioned, but they can use whatever they want, including the Stats poll.

My bias is for the Coaches' poll, unless we gain ground in the Stats poll.

CAA is a joke! Bitter we are leaving as am I but impossible to be co-champions. They should be pushing UR for a top 8 seed but won’t because our weak Athletic Department chose to leave a respected conference for a weaker league.
