2022 Baseball

Spiders fell behind 6–1 and needed extras to get by the hapless Crusaders 8–7 in the first game of the set today.

We sure do like the walk-offs. Spiders led 3–1 heading into the 8th, Holy Cross tied it up, then went up 5–3 in the top of the 9th. Spiders get a three-run shot from Toso with two outs in the bottom of the 9th to escape with the 6–5 win.

Tomorrow's game has been canceled due to the impending weather.

I was there. Spiders really gave Holy Cross 2 runs in the 8th with a throwing error and infield single that should have been an out. That said, very entertaining game and the walk off home run was a no doubter. Good time at Pitt Field.

No ninth-inning heroics today. We lose 9-7 to a bad Holy Cross team. That's baseball.

At North Carolina on Wednesday, then back home for a long homestand vs. Cornell (3), Towson (1) and Villanova (3). We have a great team out here at Oregon State but I love watching baseball at Pitt Field.

Wednesday's game at North Carolina was postponed. Home with Cornell this weekend and the interwebs tell me the weather looks nice. Get out to the ballpark!

Spiders 15, Cornell 6 in series opener.

Game 2 at 1 p.m. Saturday, plenty of time to get to the ballpark and then be home in time to watch us fry the Friars.

Well the day wasn't a total loss. We beat Cornell 9-2 to take the series. Finale tomorrow.

Bullpen blows 4-2 lead in the 9th, we lose to Cornell 7-4 in series finale.

Home with Towson on Wednesday and with Villanova all weekend.

Wednesday might be iffy, but the weekend looks OK, if a little cold.

Towson game rained out. Home with Villanova on Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Tough loss in the opener to a bad Villanova team, 7–4...Spiders led 4–3 heading into the eighth, gave up the tying run on a couple of hits, and then gave up three more runs all on wild pitches amid a bunch of walks.

At least I picked Villanova for my Final Four Bracket - irrelevant but after being swept in baseball trying to think of something positive...................

Giving up 36 runs in a 3 day series says a lot about your pitching which has not shown improvement
since Woodson has been coach. I think we have one high level pitcher and he primarily plays in the field.

my baseball buddies tell me pitchers often get full rides --- do we have enough to do that?

Spiders used to be known for great pitching - Lew Burdette and Tim Stauffer are the most well known, but there were many others who were very good. Our website records are limited and don't give the details.

Rodger Hatcher and Rennie Martin{middle reliever KC Royals 1980 World Series). who converted me to using a sponge or two in my mitt and two top notch pitchers from the 70s.

Great to see some action on long promised upgrades. Baseball seems to be an after thought at UR. School's not very serious. Don't even fund NCAA max allowed scholarships. Compete as a goal rather than thrive.

What's more impressive this year is we have a RPI of 283....out of 301 D1 schools. Great scheduling...

WOW, does this bring back memories
When I arrived on campus as a freshman catcher, the first pitcher I caught or tried to catch was Rennie Martin. The first 7 pitches he threw, I missed them all😂
Well Coach Boone tried to give me two sponges and I refused but after about 7 pitches I asked for them back. My hand was swollen and bruised for a week.

The extent of my playing career was on a Cub Scout team and I was awful, but from day one have loved baseball. My dad sold tickets as part time job for the Baby Dodgers first in Newport News and then Hampton. He got to know most all the Dodgers who were on those teams prior to 1956. One of the greatest inventions for me has been MLB.com because I can watch lots of Dodger games except for the West Coast night games which are way past my bedtime.

This is 100% true. It's embarrassing. All starts with leadership of the program and Woodson isn't the guy to bring us back to where we should be.

Watched a little over an inning of the UVA game tonight on espn+. Was 6-2 and one of our relief pitchers proceeded to walk three straight batters after two outs and wild pitched a run in. For the game up to the 8th inning (game still going on) we have given up 7 walks, 7 wild pitches and three hit batters. Terrible.

Lost to Davidson today 8-7. Reliever came in for the bottom of the 11th and proceeded to issue two walks and a hit batter to load the bases. Then walks in the winning run. Unbelievable.

don't know whether Tracy can put together a program or not the way they tie his hands

I’d love to debate this. Even with “his hands untied”, I don’t think he can put together a program. He had a losing record at Valpo before he came here. He’s never been able to build a program. He doesn’t have the grit or the work ethic to do what coaches before him at Richmond had to do in the same situation.

I am happy for our BBall team’s victory today but sad for one of our close friend’s son who was the starting pitcher for Longwood today.. He left in the first inning giving up 8 earned runs. Welcome to the A10 !

Spiders lose the rubber game against GW to fall to 3–9 in A-10 play. Bob Black's recent 20-year remembrance of the Super Regional run sure seems like ancient history.

Anyway, good opportunity to get their first A-10 series win next weekend in Olean...Bona is 2–27 on the year. Yikes.

No mid-week game this week.

Spiders scored four in the ninth and five in their final two at-bats to win 8-5 at SBU. We've won the series, go for the sweep tomorrow.
