Golden to University of Florida - Hovde to follow?

I have no knowledge of this, but wondering if anyone on the board has heard or should there be a concern Hovde packs up and follows Golden to Florida. I had hear rumors the main reason Hovde left San Fran was the cost of living out there and to get back to the East Coast as he is from PA. I believe he was associate head coach under Golden for 2 years, then left for UR to be just assistant - so in a sense a step down, but likely a step up in pay or equal when you factor how expensive San Fran is to live.

But now with Golden going to Florida, and needing to compile a staff - I wonder if Hovde gets a call.

Thank you Veteran

Today the 11th of November is Veterans Day. It started as Armistice Day in 1919 to commemorate the ending of World War I. Thank you to everyone who has worn the military uniform of our nation and the sacrifices you have made to preserve Freedom. The cost of Freedom is high but Americans have willingly paid the price to keep our country free. Just watched the Veterans Day Parade in New York city which is the largest in the world. Had an extra incentive to watch it as my son participated and as always was very moved by the people and the music. Thankful to live in the United States of America.

2024 Richmond Spiders Football - Opponents Countdown - Towson

in another of the mysteries of CAA football scheduling the Spiders have only played Towson once (2021) since 2017!...it's a shame too, because we've won three in a row and six of the last eight going back to the 2008 season...the Tigers come to The Brick House for this year's Homecoming festivities...

the game begins what has been Championship/FCS Playoff November for the last two seasons...beginning with the 2021 season Richmond is 9-1 in games played in November...I expect all coaches want their teams playing their best at the most important time of the season...Coach Huesman and his staff have had the Spiders there since 2021!

On Media Day Towson was picked to finish 9th in the conference...the Tigers showed some life last season under new coach Pete Shinnick (I wonder if he's the son of former Baltimore Colts linebacker Don Shinnick?)...they finished 5-6, 4-4 CAA tied with five other teams at 4-4...ha! that can only happen in the CAA!

Shinnick expects his Tigers to have improved significantly in their 2nd season in his scheme...the 2024 expectations are highest for the Tigers offense which returns pretty much intact...Towson averaged roughly 30 points per game in the CAA wins last season. They return a QB who passed for 15 TDs, a stable of RBs one who ran for 800 yards and scored 10 TDs, and All CAA Tight End and four Offensive linemen...Coach Shinnick looks forward to seeing what his offense can do...

Towson's first five games are brutal...they include BCS Cincinnati and FCS powerhouse North Dakota State on the road...also in this stretch are games against CAA favorite Villanova and expected Championship contender W&M...if the Tigers survive this stretch Richmond should be the best team they face in their final seven games!...they could make a CAA run!

there's usually at least one surprise team in the CAA each season...Towson could well be that squad this year...but this is November and the Spiders have owned it lately...I expect we'll need to start it off again with another impressive win to protect any Championship hopes of our own...we know what it takes to win in November....this figures to be a good CAA battle!

2024 Richmond Spiders Football - Opponents Countdown - Campbell

the Fighting Camels will host the Spiders in beautiful Buies Creek, NC...years ago now, I played a lot of golf on their University owned golf course, Keith Hills...I never dreamed we'd be playing Campbell in a November football game that should have CAA Championship and FCS Playoff implications

Campbell was the best of the 2023 CAA newcomers at 4-4 in the conference...you may recall the Spiders trounced them 44-13 by scoring 28 unanswered 4th quarter points at The Brick House...the 4th quarter collapse was indicative of the Camels defense last season...one of new head coach Braxton Harris' focal points with his defense has been to "flip" the 4th quarter from last seasons' 105-68 deficit...

Harris' new Offensive Coordinator will be looking to find a QB that can lead a talented and experienced group of RBs and a potentially good offensive line...

on CAA Media Day Campbell was picked to finish 11th in the 16 team conference...

the Spiders won some very tough November road games last season...this one figures to be another real test...its probably Campbell's last shot at Richmond in Buies Creek...Richmond better be ready for a battle in this must win game...

if you're traveling to Campbell and get there early enough you might be able to slip in 18 holes before your tailgate...

enjoy the Countdown!

2024 Richmond Spiders Football - Prologue - Campbell

everything seems to be coming together for the Spiders in Championship November...just like the doctor ordered the UR offense and defense seem to be playing their best football at the most important time...

some say when you get this close to the goal every win gets tougher...I believe it...Campbell knows what's coming to Buies Creek Saturday...a team that badly needs a win to stay on CAA Championship course, a team that has won seven in a row to climb into the FCS National Top 10...the game should be the Humps Super Bowl!

but like some of their immediate predecessors and others in the CAA era this team has now entered the "mission zone" they are on a mission to achieve their Championship and Playoff goals...they are full of focus, confidence and momentum...I don't think a stumble versus the Camels is in the cards...

enjoy the Prologue and the Brick House football zen compliments of the new game sound track that debuted last week on the PA system!

2024 Richmond Spiders Football - Opponents Countdown - Bryant

this will be the Spiders longest road trip of the regular season...to play a CAA newcomer that they and most fans know little about...no disrespect to Bryant University, but Satchmo thought it was another CAA New Jersey member until I did my research...just in case you don't know where it is either, it's in Smithfield, Rhode Island!

the Bulldogs began offering FCS scholarships at the Northeast Conference level in 2012...they competed in the NEC until 2023 when they moved to the Big South/OVC football association...this is their debut season in the CAA...coach Chris Merritt calls the CAA the best top to bottom FCS conference in the country...he believes his staff and team have accepted the much larger challenge they'll face every week...

it'll likely be a rebuilding and building up season for the Bulldogs who return only 7 starters (4 on offense and 3 on defense)...they will be bringing in 8 transfers to help shore up things...the CAA Preseason Media Poll picks Bryant to finish 15th in the 16 team conference...by my count the Bulldogs will be the 5th FCS team in the first 8 games that will clearly be rebuilding, or building towards being competitive at the CAA level of FCS football!

this doesn't mean a Richmond win at Bryant will be automatic, or easy, but it does mean the Spiders should get the victory...Bryant will likely be able to play free and loose with nothing left to lose at this point in the season...road wins are very important in the CAA...by this point in the season Richmond will have played Wofford, Charleston Southern, Delaware State and NC A&T, all teams that are rebuilding...hopefully they know what it takes to defeat an opponent like Bryant...this is a win Richmond must have!

enjoy the Countdown!

Cayo and Gilly reuniting?

Gilly's obviously busy with the parent club right now, but Cayo has been selected to the Hustle's training camp roster. Potentially a long shot given he's coming from the tryout path rather than any sort of team rights, but you never know!
