2024–25 schedule

There is a non-zero chance that they could potentially cancel the whole thing if they can't wrangle in another sucker or 3 for their tournament. The women's bracket is announced and tickets are on sale on their website. Men's side of the bracket is all "check back soon". It's been that way for a while.
In case it isn’t obvious, I meant we will announce on 11/28 who we are playing on 11/25…

Tyler Kropp - 2025 Offer

Following the recent offer, Kropp took a visit to Northwestern yesterday. I'd also like to note that the in the Big 10 preseason poll released today, the Wildcats are picked to finish 16th and not qualify for the conference tournament. Just sayin'...

NW is loading up tho. I live in Chicago and they landed Angelo Ciarvino and now Kendall Gill's Son, Phoenix is heading there next year. Lot of hype around here

2024–25 schedule

There's only about 20 schools left to announce their schedules. All of them except Saint Peter's are known to be in MTEs.

Saint Peter's is an interesting case and I wonder if they're still a possibility...they have 27 games listed on their schedule but haven't officially announced it with a press release. So they can add a few more, and they have nothing listed between November 20 and December 3. It was Rocco who said they weren't doing an MTE, but maybe that's not accurate? They would get us to 6 teams to at least allow for 3 games.

Regardless, the hill to climb to reach a full field is awfully steep.

Mens 2024 - 2025 Polls/Rankings/Awards

A10 media day is this coming Monday, and I'm expecting us to be picked somewhere around 7-9, so this seems about right. I think its a fair rating based on losing King, Quinn, Dji, and Zae.

On another note, I'll be curious to see the preseason all A-10 teams... we've had at least one player selected preseason all-conference every year since 2012-2013, but I think there's a solid chance that streak ends this year. Hunt and Dusan have a chance to sneak onto the 3rd team, but not likely.

Spiders Collective-Season Preview-Oct 4

I don't expect a big crowd for this event. 100 would be a victory in my mind. Its a tough sell in my mind when your charging $200 to $400 for a practice and intra-squad scrimmage in the practice facility. Meanwhile - you can probably see all of our home OOC games for that amount.

I know - this event is more to raise money and get people involved, but I don't think your getting the common fan dollars here. I expect you will get a lot of people already donating to the collective or involved, so just not sure it will have the impact they expect.

Now - if they said you could pay 200-400 for a membership....and that will give you limited access to events, where you may have the opportunity to purchase more things or donate more money, that may have been better. I think back to the Spider Club events before games, maybe there is a collective event before every game and one of the coaches comes and talks to give insight on the opponent. Or maybe there are events after the game, which players come to and meet collective members. This then not only gets a fan as a member, but they go to the game, buy tickets, etc.

Tangerine Bowl 1968 championship vs. 2008 FCS championship: Which is greater UR achievement?

University of Richmond quarterback Buster O’Brien (kneeling) was flanked by 1968 Tangerine Bowl teammates (left to right) Charlie Tysinger, Bob Haggerty, Dave Criswell, Bill Fazioli, Wayne Fowler, Tom Enland, Walker Gillette, Jim Livesay, Pat Morris and Joe Kellum. The Spiders defeated No. 15 Ohio 49-42.

RIP Buster

Yours truly wrote this some 6 years ago commenting on 50th anniversary of the UR 1968 team win v Ohio in the Tangerine Bowl.

“…Those guys in the pic look like one rugged bunch who at the line of scrimmage would likely kick our asses today.

If you think about this collection on the team you have to be amazed at the raw recruiting abilities how Frank Jones and his coaches could assemble such talent. That season Frank ran the power I with at least Gillette and Livesay as WRs.Both of those guys were long and fast.RPO for O’Brien was not in the playbook although he did score against Ohio on a QB keeper by not pitching to one of his trailing running backs.

The basement level of Millhiser Gym was the football office. The practices were held where the Weinstein Health center and that parking lot sits as you use to walk down a gravel, bumpy road to get there. No River Road fields,no Robins stadium, no Robins Center,no flashy locker rooms. No Queally Athletic Center, only City Stadium and many away games.Frank Soden was our Bob Black.
The school never won any beauty contests back then(although it was a great looking place even then) nor did it even have 50% of the buildings it has today. There were Saturday classes. You didn’t need 1350 on your SATs to gain admittance. Our endowment was paltry, literally nothing compared to the $3.2 Billion today.
The school was in financial trouble.

The frosh dormitories were army barracks which sat where the Law School parking lot is today. The dining layout of Brunet Hall consisted of 1 single line of extremely limited dining options.Lots of green beans and jello. It was all edible but far from the multiplicity and spaciousness of the menu options experienced at D Hall today.Fraternity life was quite active and involved back then. Not so much today.

We were at very different place back then but with those many fine professors and coaches I wouldn’t trade it for anything…”

2024 Richmond Spiders Football - Opponents Countdown - Elon Phoenix

,Burn the red shirt! Ride the horse for the rest of the season!
Just a thought more than opinion, and I do not care what they do as coaches as long as the team is in the best position to win this year, but also in the future. Burning the Coleman redshirt puts Wickersham in a position to redshirt himself. The result of that if he/they choose to do so gives Spiders two starting level QBs with two years left each. Of course, Coleman could redshirt another year down the line, but then you have the same situation as this year. It is not my business one way or the other, but maybe Coleman was promised or wants a redshirt year, if possible, to obtain a master's degree. If Wickersham can lead the team to the playoffs, so be it. If Coleman is needed to get there use him and I feel sure the coaches will consider the options and needs to make that happen.

Having Wickersham for two years and Coleman three, gives incoming Jack Callaghan a redshirt year and two years as backup to Coleman if he does not win the starting job. Redshirting at this level of FB is huge, and Huesman is clear he wants to build the program from HS recruits and plug in needs via portal.

Statistics show they are both pretty even and Wickersham has the FBS game involved. Yes, Coleman might be a bit better on the deep ball, but as far as Wickersham being a run first QB, with the improvement in the run game of late, I do not see that situation being an issue of necessity in the future. Palmer-Smith is now 13th in the nation with 493 yards rushing. Good on him and the OL.
I also see a WR room that has made great improvement over the last two or three games and is now multi-threatening, not just one option that could get open.

I honestly have far more concern about Spiders getting healthier on the DL right now than who starts at QB. I have not heard if any of the three DL guys that went out injured last week are coming back. The two deep shows Spiders are down three DEs and a DT from previous two-deeps this year and Hoilette will not be back for sure.

Spiders need to win this game and be glad for a bye week to get healthy or get young guys ready to go in two-deep the second half of season.
