Very interesting comments. I will try and discuss some of them. The purpose of the Collective is to raise funds in the new world of college basketball. As of now, it's being run by a handful of volunteers/board members. It is separate from the school, so having an event would require The Collective paying expenses. Having an event in the Robins Center would not require the staff for a normal game, but it wouldn't be free either.
we probably got a little bit of a late start in planning. The pre-season schedule is jammed with 2 scrimmages, fall break and a cap # of practices. We could have gone 2 ways... use the Robins Center or come up w/ an alternative. We chose the "Season Preview" event. It is something different, and we will see if it works. I believe it will. Who knows, maybe next year, if the rules allow it, we can have an Exhibition against a school and split the gate for the benefit of each schools NIL. That is not allowed now.
What does one get for their admission? A different setting to see the college team they root for in a different manner. A small snippet of what a typical Richmond practice entails (and for those who never watched one, they may find it interesting) A chance to meet, the Spiders, including the 7 new players on the team. A Spider Collective Tumbler (that is for Spider17).Intrasquad Scrimmage (there will be officials) . Reception afterward....
I believe people that bought the tickets for the event are Spider fans and understand the NIL is here to say and want to contribute a reasonable fee that supports the cause. I hope the people on the board who have bought tickets will give an honest assessment of the event, we certainly appreciate your support.
