SPIDERS and Rhode Island have been announced by the CAA as Co-Champions of CAA football.

mojo refresh my memory as to 2012, thanks.
ODU had the best CAA record at 7-1 but like DE were ineligible for CAA Championship.

Richmond, Villanova and New Hampshire tied for 2nd place with 6-2 CAA records. The three teams were declared Co-Champions. Our overall record was 8-3 better than Nova’s and the Wildcats.

ODU was eligible for the FCS Playoffs and took an At-Large bid. I do not recall whether Nova or NH got the CAA Auto-Bid, but one did and the other got an At-Large.

We were left out of the Playoffs despite having a better overall record than the other At-Large team from the CAA!

Plain and simple we was robbed!

I could really care less about being the undisputed CAA Champion except for promoting UR as an undefeated conference champion gives us a lot more relevance on the national scene. As long as we get the top 8 seed I will be satisfied. We all know we are the real champions but this team is hungry for more and that bye means a lot moving forward.
A week to rest and heal would be nice. The shutout of a decent team might help with the seeding a little after today.

I hate that I’ve let this Co-Champion BS distract me from the amazing mojo this Championship team and Spiders fellowship and camaraderie gave me today, but I’m not as tough as our players.

They deserve better than this CAA joke!

No matter how the seeding thing turns out I trust this team to find a way to win! Maybe with a little more attitude?

How about we play the Rams in two weeks at The Brick House and settle it on the field?

We weren’t going to get much if any advocacy from CAA but I get that w the departure. & that over the top speech from a league commissioner in URI locker room doubles down on it.

You’d expect it from Hardt but he’s not good at it. Not a lot of pull out there from what I’ve heard.

There is really no reason Incarnate Word out of #8 league Southland should get a bye seed over Richmond of #2 league CAA.

Coming down to us & the Incarcate Word whatever that is. FCS bracketology by Herder has us edging them out for 8 seed and bye. Would still be tough draw but u take it over having to play extra game. 7 seed ideal but not happening imo. If UIW gets the bye instead it will be a screw job & lack of advocacy by Richmond AD and CAA.

Here is Rhode Island's understanding as of 5 days ago. What changed?

Here is the update and a correction to my first post regarding tiebreakers.

Richmond: Clinches at least a share of the CAA title and Auto-Bid from the conference regardless of their final game vs William and Mary. Win and they are sole CAA Champs.

Rhode Island: Firmly in 2nd place. Win at Bryant to secure at least second place or CAA Co-Champs with a Richmond loss. In strong position for an at-large playoff bid.

Stony Brook: Eliminated from title with loss to NH. Win this last game vs. Monmouth to keep hopes alive for a playoff bid.

Villanova: Eliminated from title with loss to Monmouth. Win this last game vs. Delaware for a chance at a playoff bid.

I was mistaken in my first post regarding tie-break games for the auto-bid. If no head-to-head matchup, they look at ALL common conference opponents. Both teams beat Campbell and Hampton but Richmond beat Delaware while Rhode Island lost giving them the edge on the tie breaker (They will also have a mutual opponent in Bryant by the end of the season but it does not matter at this point.)

I agree. This is where Hardt needs to step up and represent for his university. He led the decision to leave for the Patriot League so he needs to show some leadership and stand up for this team publicly that we are the CAA Champions and advocate to the selection committee that we deserve a top 8 seed.

Not impossible.... it is true. Now UR athletic staff needs to clarify what was agreed to about counting the results of the Delaware game.
I’m hoping AD Hardt will speak up about this joke! It is very troubling to wonder if we’ll get any support from the Commissioner for the top eight seed.
