Texas only loss was at home to #8 Notre Dame and beat JMU by 31 on Sunday. Hopefully, Robins is loud and crowded and Spiders make it a close game.
Good report. I agree. This experience will help in the a10 and NCAA tournament. Crowd was a good and loud one. With more early effort I still believe the athletic department could have made the crowd size significantly bigger.65-54, Spiders drop a hard fought battle. I’m not a moral victory kind of guy, but a lot to be proud of with this performance. Spiders didn’t quite click on offense today (in large part because of great defense from Texas), had several costly turnovers, and Texas getting a friendly whistle until the last quarter. Despite that, we ended up losing by only 11 to the #6 team in the country, held them to their lowest offense performance of the season, and only lost the rebound battle by 1 (37-36).
Love watching this team play with intensity, matching Texas’s physicality, and never giving up. Almost the opposite of our men’s team. Today, we were outmatched talent wise compared to Texas, but fought harder and seemed to want it more. This will serve us well and speaks to Roussell’s culture he is implementing. Nice to see Alston back on our line-up too after missing the start of the season with an ankle injury. Very proud of this team!
One more thing- if the Spider Club is enabled to have a volunteer component the athletic department might be surprised and happy about the result. Our supporters collectively I am sure have many key contacts .There should have been multiple communications to every youth sports league in the region offering $3 tickets, which was the sale price they offered last week to the general public. I'm associated with several and received nothing, so clearly this was not done.
The exemption was for 2020–21 when they started late and played a shortened season. One of Texas's bigs (# 44) is a 6th-year player. College athletics will really benefit when the stupid Covid exemption the NCAA gave even though everyone played a full regular season finally disappears after this season.
Good lord. I hate to see what they would do against our men's team.Tennessee shellacked NC Central on Saturday, 139–59. The Vols hit 30 three-pointers...something that had never been done in men's or women's D-I history, or even the NBA or WNBA.
NCCU already had a 131-44 loss earlier this year. Not too unusual of a score for them.Tennessee shellacked NC Central on Saturday, 139–59. The Vols hit 30 three-pointers...something that had never been done in men's or women's D-I history, or even the NBA or WNBA.
Clearly NCCU sucks, but Tennessee is also very good!NCCU already had a 131-44 loss earlier this year. Not too unusual of a score for them.
Also 119-57 and 119-43
Let alone back to back to back. They played very aggressively especially inside defensively I thought. A normal % at 3s and a few less offensive fouls (questionable at best), and this is a nail-biter at the end. Of course, if we can figure out the turnover curse, we will truly be a force ro reckon with.Like I said - as long as they didn't get blown out - this would be a "victory". We struggled with turnovers, which we knew would be an issue and didn't make enough shots early. Came on late and started to make some, but by that time Texas had a cushion. It was clear to see the difference in competition. Normally - our girls are the long and athletic team, especially against A10 teams - but against Texas, they were longer, and much more athletic.
But give the girls credit - they hung tough. This game will pay dividends in the A10 slate, and will also help in the upcoming slate of Tennessee and Alabama. If they can win one of those games - it will be huge. And speaking of schedule - have the women every played a schedule like this - getting Texas, Tenn, and Alabama - all in one season!!!!
