We have our second transfer get. He is a 6-3 senior from Loyola Marymount. He averaged 12 a game with year and shot 36.6 % from deep on 6 attempts. As of right now, we are out of spots.
Agree. We had zero options as a SG, so this kid is our starting 2. Thomas looks like he can play either position so he can get good minutes as well. On paper, this is a better back court than we had this year, but that was a very low bar to exceed.I had Tyne pencilled in, but to me Johnston looks like the starter at PG. stats certainly lean his way.
so now it's a question of who's better next to him ... Tyne or Thomas.
not sure if it's better on paper than Hunt, White and Tyne.On paper, this is a better back court than we had this year, but that was a very low bar to exceed.

The rat-tailed ripper: Will Johnston’s big plans for LMU men's basketball season
LMU men’s basketball starting point guard Will Johnston is looking to have another strong season leading the fresh faces on the Lions' squad. After putting up an impressive 11.1 pointswww.laloyolan.com
Role player? he started every game, 3rd on team in scoring, 2nd in steals, and led team in assists (101 last year ... Tyne had 45).A role player for a team in a league like ours? Sounds like we're really killing it on the recruiting trail so far.
Toughness is good. I like him alreadyCan really shoot and seems to have some moxie. I like that he mentions toughness in this quote.
“My scoring, my playmaking and my toughness. Those are probably the three main things. Toughness is like defense, mentality, leadership - those kinds of things,” said Johnston.
Sorry, I meant how we ended the season (Hunt injured). I do like we have a guard with some size that should help us defensively. And again, very low bar. If this is our guard room, I expect another double digit seed for us in the A-10 tourney.not sure if it's better on paper than Hunt, White and Tyne.
I do know it's better than it was 2 days ago (Tyne, Graham, Mooney, Argabright).
Your're welcome.Only took three posts before this guy was disparaged. At least the first dude from DePaul made it to the second page.
Starters can be role players too. I’m just saying, he scored 12 points a game, it’s not like he was the star of the team. He’s certainly not putting us over the top of anything.Role player? he started every game, 3rd on team in scoring, 2nd in steals, and led team in assists (101 last year ... Tyne had 45).
Johnston is a good addition.
I liked the toughness I saw in his video. Can really shoot and seems to have some moxie. I like that he mentions toughness in this quote.

I will give him the benefit of the doubt! So he actually went to prep school near me and we used his school's gym for our AAU practices, so I have actually seen this one some in person and in both games and practice (albeit years ago). Immediate reaction is that he can definitely shoot it! And college numbers seem to bear that out. But out of high school, there were some glaring deficiencies with athleticism. He was a bit of a defensive liability even in high school games (albeit pretty high level high school ball). That little bit I have seen plus numbers from two stops D1 stops (and WCC is an A-10 peer and maybe better) would tell me that he'll be fine shooting it, but I would be a little worried about him being as successful with us because my sense is that he really needs to play alongside a creator and not so sure we have that. Our offense is going to have to work efficiently (which it didn't last year) to get him quality looks because I don't think he will get his own shot very often. Defensively, I am thinking its goin to be a problem. No facts on this except what I saw a few years ago, but also nothing from that limited film says anything different.
All told, I certainly like this profile better than some of the others!
That “guard with some size” should do better covering 6’7” forwards under the goal than Tyne could.Sorry, I meant how we ended the season (Hunt injured). I do like we have a guard with some size that should help us defensively. And again, very low bar. If this is our guard room, I expect another double digit seed for us in the A-10 tourney.
Or a freshman…I had Tyne pencilled in, but to me Johnston looks like the starter at PG. stats certainly lean his way.

Loose lips sink ships!Sooo Philly, you are saying another player that can't keep his man in front of him? Seems par for the course.
Welcome Will, seems like a solid player out of a solid midmajor conference. The 2 foot rat tail is going to take some getting used to though 😂
I'm sure they would never figure it out on their own.OK if defense is an issue I won't let other A10 coaches know.
who was the star of their team? Johnston put up 1.5 ppg less than their leading scorer, and led them in assists.Starters can be role players too. I’m just saying, he scored 12 points a game, it’s not like he was the star of the team. He’s certainly not putting us over the top of anything.
No clue why EL would have an issue with a guy who has averaged double figures all 3 of his seasons, is a career 39.3% shooter from 3 and 84.7% from the line. A couple of his most recent games, he was 7-8 from 3 with 27 points and 8 assists against San Diego, and 5-7 from 3 with 18 points against Santa Clara. This is a fantastic addition.who was the star of their team? Johnston put up 1.5 ppg less than their leading scorer, and led them in assists.
one could argue with his numbers he was their team's MVP.
he' likely would have been our best player last year, low bar acknowledged.
