Nate scored 74, 426 and 256 points in his 3 seasons with the good guys. That places him at 756 total points for his career. How cool would it be if he scored 1,000 for his career. That would give us 5 seniors next year with 1,000 points. Go Nate!

definitely possible but I don't know if it's going to happen considering how many scoring options we will have on the floor and I see his minutes being cut into more and more by burton next year

Nate’s free throw shooting improvement is amazing. I used to duck in the stands when he was shooting FT’s. Also he has stopped shooting 3’s thank goodness. He is getting better finishing at the rim all the time. Nate usually is good for a steal and a block and is very disruptive inside due to his leaping ability. He is such a consistent rebounder also. He will be a beast next year.

I will say, he is a big key to our success, when we go to him and he attacks the basket - he usually has success and it opens up a lot for us. When he gets only 3 or 4 shots and we become too reliant on the 3 (St. Bonny) it does not turn out so good. Need to feed Nate and Grant vs Duquesne and open it up for our shooters.

Even with all of our other great scorers, I love that sometimes he's the one to bail us out when the offense breaks down and the shot clock is running out. They just feed him the ball outside and let him take his man to the hoop. So easy to overlook him, but he's an important piece for us.

I think he gets there because either way I see the Spiders playing 4 more games at a minimum this season with the end of the regular season, A10 tourney, and NCAA or NIT. And I don't think his minutes will get cut next year - as I see him getting about 25 minutes and Burton staying right at 15.
What I think can help Cayo is if he can improve his outside shot like he did his free throws - maybe just be able to hit a 15 footer, mid-range jumper - his game could really take off. Right now all his baskets come driving around the rim - but if he could knock down some jumpers and make people respect him outside the paint - it only will make things easier for him.

Put some respect on Nathan Cayo's name.

The kid can guard 1-5 and would be averaging 15 ppg on another less loaded roster EASILY taking no jump shots.

There is a difference between a player who "Can't" and a player "Doesn't".

I don’t think a single person here disrespected Cayo.

with as effective as he is attacking the rim, I actually don't want him to work on his perimeter shooting.

Nate has a cult-like following among the fan base. He plays a very important role on this team. This thread was designed to point out his strengths and his contributions. It takes a special person to put aside his personal wants for the betterment of the team. Nate is an excellent basketball player, but an even better person. That speaks volumes about him.

I recall having a lengthy discussion with a seasoned NBA Scout. He told me you don't look at someone who cannot score in some manner, so it is important to him to determine how well the player could defend in the NBA.

but while predictable driving, he's still very effective. sure I'd like him knocking down 70% from the mid range. I don't believe that will happen. so I don't want him taking mid range instead of driving to the hole and finishing like he does. plus getting to the line.

His mid range jumper will improve just like his free throws, just practice. He’s not a Power guy he’s got to expand his offense.

Why does he need to shoot a “jumper”. He should work on a set shoot if he finds himself open enough and 95% do what he does well already.

For one reason, he isn't guarded now until he approaches the basket. Defenders are able to fall collapse and double cover or assist. If a defender were forced to come out and defend him, it would better help people get open under the basket. Learning to shoot outside need not impact his ability to go inside.

I’m speaking about the technique he could use to shoot say a 8 to 12 footer if he is open. He could get off a shot without jumping on the rare cases he is open in that range.
I love the way he contributes to our game and don’t want to change a thing. He did a great job of correcting his foul shooting.

If Cayo improves his mid-range jumper in the off season like he improved his FT shooting last off season, he would be a nightmare to guard. With Nick and Grant in the line up we would present a huge amount of match up issues for almost anyone we played. Not to mention the problems Gilly and Blake's speed and quickness provide.
