Who is going to start next year?

I still think we can compete for a top-four seed in the A-10 this year.

If we're 4th in the A-10 this year the Conference is in trouble. That'll mean that a 9-9 team at best is 4th place.

Our starters for next season?
A lot will depend on how Woj plays the rest of this season. However, if Woj continues to improve, and proves me and several others correct that he is an outstanding 3-point shooter, then it makes no sense for him to lose his starting spot.
Besides, our transfer is barely taller than Gilly (regardless of what his listed height is), and his game is probably ideally suited to be a "6-th man."
I see our current starters (if you include Nick) staying that way, with maybe Sal and Dre or Tyler giving Nick some competition for the 5th starter spot. One complication: We have simply played too well with Nick out to discount this information. However, if we have a starting five that works for us the rest of the way, and if JJ gets pushed out of the starting 5 (by Sal or Dre), then we should have some extreme competition for the top 5 at the start of next season.

best 5 start, oldie. Francis comes in with an impressive resume shooting 40%+ from three both years and with heavy volume last year.

I agree Woj isn't just handing that 2 guard spot over. I believe he's going to have a big second half of this season. Andre is looking better and better, too.

but my money's on Francis.

Right from the mouth of Mooney. I'm sure we will "compete" for a Top 4 seed in the A-10 tournament. Every team is going to compete for a Top seed. I bet we are going to having some really great practices in January and February after VCU's Dayton's, and Davidson's of the league beat us.

It's a damn shame that we don't get any official recognition for how awesome our team practices. I was really hoping that there would be a CBI for great practices, and that we would decide to pay the fee to participate in that.

Remember all the chit-chat from 2016 and the summer of 2017 about what an incredible player Solly was in practice? He would have been a hell of an asset on a practice CBI team...

Ulla gushed about Solly. Mooney did too and inserted him into the starting line up day 1.

TJ gushed about him as well. Do you think TJ wasn’t good and couldn’t tell who the good players in practice were? Or maybe Solly’s practice play didn’t translate into game play. Similarly Gilly said the freshman this year at practice haven’t been as good as they have been in games. Sometimes players practice different than they play in games, both good and bad.

There’s plenty of fuel to throw on the fire(Mooney), no need to reach for stuff.

Are you saying it it part of the job of the head coach to be able to identify what a player can do in practice versus the game? I'm just trying to figure out what parts of Mooney's job responsibilities we are allowed to actually hold him accountable.

I’m casting my vote for the guy who can actually play defense.

man, this long break is tough.
I wish Saturday would hurry up and get here so you guys could find some new material to bitch about.
In fairness, it’ll be the same material.

Maybe we’ll come out in a box and one and that’ll fail and then we’d have something new to complain about.

I'll bite. Besides the big guy start anyone who can win a baby race. :) This is tongue in cheek because I'm all about baby races this week.

To stay with the thread. I will go with the same starting 5 that began this season. Difference being that we will have a real bench. Good backups at every position. Francis, Andre, Noah, Sal, Grace.

If Andre takes JJ's starting position by year end, we could have a situation of all 5 starters returning, but only 3 of them still starting the following year. Very usual, but demonstrates how much depth the team has.

I believe that Francis will likely be one of our best 5 offensive players, but his size strongly suggests that he will be able to make his best contributions off the bench. Maybe we can play with two guards who tip-in at roughly 5-8 and 5-10, but I like having a 6-4 Woj as a starter instead. But, hey, its way too early to know and I have not yet seen Francis play, or heard that he is back to 100%. He will have to be very healthy and playing great D to start. Could be 6th man of the year candidate though...

Francis has to be better than JJ, so that will be one big improvement.
