As Spiders move to more talented competition, feel must find a pass rush. Whether this comes from D line or blitz package it must happen or depleted secondary will be picked apart. Am certain Trott not playing all his schemes thus far but opposing team has too much time for receivers to come open.

Agree with your observation, hope we can get some pass rush without putting more stress on what has become a thin backfield. I thought with the new additions our DB's may be a strength, but to many injuries. Hopefully we'll get come back on the playing fields soon.

Thought the pass rush was better than normal. Madison Day's interception was the result of their quarterback taking a big hit.

Did finally get a sack on the board. Felt rush and putting pressure on VMI QB was effective. Made him rush quite a bit. He had to tuck and run quite a bit; only problem with that is our containment is still an issue. Got two weeks now to get healthy and come up with the right game plan to beat Maine.

Coach Trott has his defensive team flying to the ball.A couple of big tackles on the line and the rest are very young-quasi linemen, really linebacker size, that can motor. The LB's are also undersized but are extremely athletic, cover the flat and can get to the ball quickly.Having Herlocker back in the fold as a SS and David Jones as the long armed and quick DB have been important anchors for the secondary.Trott's superglue is working with his overly young, multi platoon D.They're gaining an unusually good amount of experience through additional playing minutes.

haven't looked at yardage, turnovers etc., but have looked at scoreboard and it looks like the Spider's defense has played much better in the second half than first halves versus Hampton and VMI...

7 points for Hampton in 2nd half and 0 for VMI...

many of you are students of the game...are we just wearing them down, or is Coach Trott, or someone else on the staff, making some good adjustments?

We are very short D linemen. Best pass rush comes from DT's. We struggle to get pressure bringing only 4. Blitzes are nice but they leave you vulnerable. They work every now and then but you can also get burned. Herlocker helps the back line a lot. Smart, covers, and he hits. Pass rush is not going to improve. Trott knows his defense. He doesn't get enough credit.

Agree with One Putt, we are not going to have a threatening type of pass rush. It may be
more strategic such keeping a Vad Lee type in the pocket or forcing a pocket passer out.
I think strategy will be to place opposing QB in positions he is less comfortable. The other
thing is we may fly to the ball, but we are not fast. Containment of the rush is key to not give up
large chunks.

I thought we did pretty well against the run overall. A running QB will still kill us. VMI had several dropped balls that helped us out, but we covered pretty well and the QB was rushed. Defense also score 14 points, which is very nice!!

I thought the D overall was very physical against VMI. I saw a good number of hard hits Saturday. I hope they keep that up against Maine as they have always had imposing players.
