It seems like the coaching staff either had faith/hope/information that Burton was coming back based on our lack of grabbing a transfer 3/4….or we just aren’t closing the deal on those guys. And I know we could still possibly sign someone but the hour is growing late.
Captain, that's the thing. Would think with the great relationship Mooney would have to know. And was not able to land a guy, even a weaker replacement. I would still be more positive if we had landed Darius Brown. But it is looking a little bleak now. Need Dji, Noyes and Tanner to step up big.

????but will they win more without Tyler. I have doubts. And TB carried us more than anyone else last year. I’d be surprised if we are .500 this coming year but hope I’m proven wrong.
Need Boyden to enforce a new culture. Biggest issue has been the culture of comfort and softness Mooney has allowed or instilled, depending how you want to look at it. Everything has to go right to have a good year.
Because nobody else could do anything with the ball. You had Nelson, Goose, and our center out there who had some of the worst post moves I’ve seen from a Richmond starting center in a long time.
T, I definitely hear you. The culture really has to come from the head coach. Probably grasping at straws here, but thought the first part of the year it was better toughness and defense vut the moon softness ultimately won out.
I think we are a better team with Burton, he is a really good player. Feels like rationalization to say we might be better without him.
There's no chance we are a better team without Burton than with him.

Unless, we pull in some really great last minute stud off the portal, which is looking increasingly unlikely, we will have one of the least talented teams in the A-10 this year. Our best player is who? Quinn, maybe. Our starting forwards are going to be Noyes and Bigelow. I honestly can't remember a team with less talent on paper in the Mooney era.
And then couple that with the fact that Mooney is not a very good X and O's, game management coach, who typically underperforms even when he has really good talent. I just see a really bleak year.
I don't see what we were doing in the portal as we needed some wings/forward players yet have landed zero. Was Mooney really that disconnected with Burton that he thought he was coming back and that is why we didn't land anyone or did we try and just fail. Either way, right now, the offseason has been an epic failure for our coaches. King is a really nice player and a needed player and Hunt is also nice, but when you lose 4/5 of your starting line-up to graduation or portal and then another key reserve piece as well, you need way more than what we brought in.

Let Roche play more than 11 or 14 minutes a game. Shooters have to shoot. In order to shoot, they have to play. Let Noyes play half a game or more. Dance with who brung you. Let them play enough to make an impact.

I do not believe that the ability of the players is going to be the biggest issue for the 23-24 team. A lower than desired winning percentage will be the result of Mooney bone-heading the player combinations and playing time.
The newness & unproven nature of the team components will make player management a premium in 23-24. This is Mooney's greatest weakness as a coach.

“Where do we go from here?” We support the team! One player doesn’t make the team. Sure it hurts that TB is gone, but it will mean that others will HAVE to step up, period. A lot on here have problems with Coach…but you can still support the players regardless. Not watching, turning TV off at halftime, my wallet is closed(giving money is a little different) , etc…I get it we all get frustrated at times. I’ve been hot at times in last 3yrs but I never walked out of a game, turned the TV off etc, so we can get angry that’s ok.
TBs decision is his, he’s not a traitor, he got his degree and has been loyal to UR. He has a free yr in which he can pursue a Masters degree for FREE and still try and accomplish his dreams, plus get paid…nothing wrong with that. Get used to the new college 🏀 as it will get worse before it gets better. In terms of the team and players we have returning, we should absolutely be behind them.
I’m not hyping anything up but I like what I’m hearing so far(every one is great in preseason😀)…Jordan is going to be good, Collin is doing good & he’s big and can shoot it. I last saw him live 2 years ago at Greenfield so he’s def wayyy better moving to Combine prob right move. Smith and Hunt aren’t on campus yet, so nothing to report there. Aidan, Zay, Neal, Mike & Dji have been good too. This will be a new team, will it be a better team? We will see…so I’m going to remain optimistic. 🕷️🏀

I have often said, I will support the players as long as they are giving it their all. That said every new year is exciting to see how things come together.
Well Dad, if you had to watch this unproductive predictable $hit year after year after year, you might be inclined to turn the TV off at halftime too. You may have gotten frustrated about a game here and there, but we've been dealing with this long before you and your son arrived. Actually, my biggest complaint isn't with Mooney but rather the administration, who could care less about winning and only know how to ask for money.
I'm with you Dad, I will remain optimist and support our team to the end. Those who are so fed up withe program need find a new program to hitch your wagon to. Go Spiders🕷🕷🏀
I feel you on that SpiderRick and that’s fair…not a jab at anyone. Especially guys that give back to the University financially or any other ways.
And Mooney is a manifestation of the Administration. A safe choice to perpetuate the norm instead of reaching for higher plateaus. There is ample data to support this setting excuses and justifications aside.

I always appreciate your optimism, you have talked me into backing off the ledge more than a few times. But at least in my case, it's more about being fed up with the DIRECTION of the program, not fed up with the program. Seems like you are implying that if one is not happy with lack of success, then they aren't true fans and therefore should go elsewhere.
Agreed @SpiderRick. Last year I looked for
the identity of the team and couldn’t find one. This offseason I am looking for a team building strategy and don’t see one. I will still attend games and root for the team, but it is hard to see how UR is going to “compete” if there aren’t major changes on all fronts.
The good news is there will be no choice but to step up because the NCAA 1st round victor “core” is gone. No one will have to argue about out of conference scheduling and at large bids. It is simply a season to get better every game until the A10 tournament - the sole path to the NCAAs.

I mean, shame on us for wanting to have great seasons more than a couple times every decades, I guess? We've had two really nice tournament runs and then completely fell on our face the next season, failing to capitalize on things at all or build any momentum. Now here we are again, back to being an afterthought in a one-league just "14 months after we won the A-10 tourney and a first-round game against Iowa."

We are sadly in wait and see mode once again. UR made its bed already with CM for the foreseeable future. I think if we go back to back losing seasons following a tournament appearance you have to ask serious questions internally about what we’re doing.

Welch: went from 37.5 minutes a game and 12.3 PPG at St Bona to 9 MPG and 2 PPG at Bama.
Lofton: 38.5 and 12.8 at Bona to 32.4 to 8.7 at a 16-17 Florida team.
Holmes: 38 and 13.5 at Bona to 32.2 and 13.3 for Iowa St, who lost to Pitt in a play in game.
Osunniyi: 32.6 and to 11.3 to 18.3 and 8.2 at Iowa St.
St Bona went 14-18 without them last year. Had they stayed like our guys did 2 years ago, they very well might have pulled off what our guys did.
