A10 Game 7 - VCU

Oh well, it all seemed like things were aligned for Spiders on Friday. Good energy in building, huge student turnout. From my vantage point less than 10% black & gold - maybe 5%. Continue to do a great job keeping Ram fans out of RC. Friday night A-10 featured ESPN game. Even Vegas had moved us to a 1 or 1.5 favorite. So, somebody thought we were supposed to win this one. Then ouch. UR lays an egg. No adjustments. Very frustrating. 32- 58.
That line was very puzzling to us as well

Exactly. And, you know, we’d still be 12-23 against our supposed rival.

Watching VCU beat us is like peeping in the window while some guy bangs your wife in a Motel 6
Was the night cold and rainy? Were the curtains not fully drawn? How about that late night food delivery? A four course meal indeed. One could get hungry standing around until about 4AM.

What was everyone wearing?
Did they make you sit in a car with binoculars or did you have your nose pressed up against the window?

Checked in on VCU since I saw their loss. Crazy fact about their roster: 3/5 of their starters are attending their FOURTH college.

Jack Clark, a starter for them, will be 25 (!!!) at the end of the season. In 2018, his freshman year, he played at La Salle. For reference, that was Gilyard’s sophomore year.

I didn't see the game, but it seemingly exemplified their obvious problem: no frontcourt. Clark and Fermin: 57 minutes, 3 for 10, 7 points and 8 fouls. Pretty pathetic. They could be starting for us with lines like that. Bamisile 3 of 13 from three. As a team 9 for 37. They have two very good guards and a lot of undisciplined inconsistency after that. Sometimes, the two guards will be enough. Other times against teams with quality frontcourt players, they will be at a massive disadvantage.

VCU doesn't bother to even look at Fermin on offensive sets because he sucks. Clark plays 25 ft. from the basket.

Soft

Nevada was down as much as 15 early in the second half, but came back to knock off VCU, 64–61. Starting bigs still not doing much. Clark had 7 boards and 4 assists but shot 1-for-9 (8 of those from three). Fermin had 2 points and no boards before fouling out.

It’s like I’ve been saying all along, they have no frontcourt. They may figure it out by A10 season, but there’s no reason they should have been some overwhelming favorite to win the league.
