Welcome back Gilyard!

I'd take him gladly. His dad is Shawnta Rogers, one of the best guards in A10 history.

Was watching a feature on him and his father the other day and they showed highlights of a completely packed Smith Center in DC. Would love to see that type of energy In their arena again.

You're not kidding. GW is a great environment when they gave a good team. They've always been a bit of a mystery to me too because it seems they have everything they need to be at the top of the league most years but rarely are. Although in the Mooney era, they have been a top 10 team and made a few tournaments. We've had some great games in front of packed crowds up there. Would be nice to see more of that.

I’ve only been to one game at GW, maybe around 2018 and they beat us by about 30 with multiple dunks and even a couple alley-oops. Just beat the hell out of us but nobody was there to see it.

That “ stadium” probably turns a lot of recruits off. Most play in better gyms in highschool

You should have been there in 2004-2005 & 2005-2006...
27-5 in A-10, 49-11 overall...38-10 A-10 (04,05,06)

Or When I was there 2/28/2004...

Was that black guy coaching the team back then? Can’t remember his name but he did a pretty solid job. He was really short and always had a lot of energy on the sideline, firing him was a big mistake.

Oh I’m not doubting they can sell the place out. But it still looks like a Mickey Mouse gym to me, if I saw that as a recruit I’d immediately be on to the next A10 school with a real stadium. But I know not all recruits have the same priorities

What does Georgetown's on campus facility look like these days?

Sometimes it is difficult to get a good college facility built in a big city, that's why so many use pro facilities...

Georgetown plays its games at Capital One Arena (formerly Verizon Center, formerly MCI Center).

I know. That is why I say the GW on campus “stadium” is better than the GT one...

But do they have any on campus facilities? Practice or otherwise. I know they have what they call a football field. ;)

They played this year at McDonough Arena, which is on campus. Usually that was reserved for one or two games during Xmas break against Bethune Cookman or some school, but with no fans, they just played there all year this year. It's better than the Smith Center.

I thought all their Athletic Events were at Multi Sport Field...
;)

Congrats to Gilly for breaking the U of R all-time assist record! Last night he was absolutely terrific and a preview to what we will see if he returns next year.

I think it's realistic Gilyard and Cayo could both come back. It would be their 5th year at richmond and a more normal one. I doubt any of the 5th years would want to come back for a 6th year though. Six years is a long time to spend in college. Of course this is all just speculation though

It was going to have two asterisks next to it anyway, one for last year being cut short, one for this year being a covid hot mess. I don't think it matters much, particularly if it stands up against others players who will have the same asterisks playing last year and this year.

it is interesting to think about what the future holds when looking back at these covid seasons in all college and pro sports 5, 10, 20 years down the line

Just spitballing... but if Sherod wanted to finish a masters degree, could he be a player and voluntary assistant coach?

IIRC, Sherod said before the season that he wasn't coming back. It's possible that's changed, but I suspect he's ready to move on to the next stage of his life

He said at the time that his career was over, but seemed to backpedal a bit in later comments, so we'll see. I still don't expect him to come back.

I do not expect him back, but ever since then he has been more non-committal than confirming.
He does seem to like still being associated with the team...

I know at 22 you think you have to start the next phase of your life. But damnit I wish I could enjoy another year of “college problems”. Life will still all be at his fingertips when he’s 23...enjoy college while you can.
Seriously, had I known better, I would have been on the 5 or 6 year plan myself. But yes, many kids want to move into the real world at that age, as did I.

I'm only one year post grad, but I agree 100%

He's already 23, all these guys will be 24 next season. Except I think Gilly. But I agree with you. What I would give to get 1 more year of college, especially if it were FREE. But as you get into 24 when most kids are say 19-20 on average you do feel a little old. That could play a role too. And that does not even factor that if they want to come back they may decide to transfer & take a run at it somewhere else entirely. I'd say odds r low due to both factors but may get 1 back at U of R.

I agree with you. Most of us would have spent an extra year of free college for sure. Hard for these kids to understand there should be no rush to get to the monotonous drudgery of everyday life. It will come soon enough. Stay in school, get a great education and play the game you love as long as you can. Jobs, house payments and taxes will still be waiting for you.

Gilly played in the NIT like a superstar. If he comes back he is going to do big things, the team is going to be good and he will some day have a banner hanging in the Robin Center.
