vs St.Bonaventure (A-10 tournament)

Great effort to not throw in the towel after the start by Bonnies in the second half. Thought Golden played well at start of the game but appeared exhausted toward end of first half. Not sure what was going on with Sherrod's off night? stamina may have played a part in that. Fore was terrific pushing the ball to the hoop and taking lots of contact. Buck plays all out every game. Gilyard hit some nice threes. We remain height challenged and hopefully will get some help with that next season. Agree with the graphic put on the screen numerous times about the lack of any seniors does mean we have an experienced team next year. Give credit to Bonnies and particularly Mobley's unconscious threes falling. Reminded me of when Chris Fleming, now an assistant under Kenny Atkinson for the Nets, lit up Virginia with 3's and we beat them.

wr70, can't disagree but I've been convinced that Mooney isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Think he will be given a chance to succeed or fail with Golden, Sherod, and Buck.

We all know we don’t boxout and rebound. Mooney has no idea what that means.
Have been constants for CM for years. What we've seen all year is exactly what we're going to get next year. The system is predictable; no deviation.

Agreed, he is not going anywhere. He won’t be taken by anyone else for sure and we won't fire him. We will be 20-12 next year and 23-9 the next year and Mooney will get another 10 years and a pension.

Bad shot selection has been our Achilles heel most of this season. Is is that the coaches are not making their wishes clearly known? Or is it that the players are just making very poor mental decisions? Or is is that the guys who should be taking most of our 3-point shots (Nick and Jake) are making the extra pass to the guys who should not be taking the key shots, and then we get a bad result? Someone closer to the program, and the players may know the answer to this mystery? One thing that is clear to me is that I would like to see Jake take on a much more assertive role next season in calling the plays on the court, and of calling his # and Nick's far more often for 3s and Grant's and Buck's far more often for inside shots. Clearly we are not communicating the right plans and we are executing the non-plans to perfection.

Shot selection should be the #1 issue to drill into this team next season, and there needs to be a plan for how it gets improved, whether this be Jake calling the plays or someone else. .
I think you're right on target.

Also St. B did a good job of defending us tonight and making us play further out...even more so than usual. The shot clock violations in first half were awful. I think there were 3?

Spiders05 or URfan1,

Is Doc going to get a public admonishing and timeout or what?
Very nice comeback after the eight minute blitzkrieg from the Bonnies to start the second half. tremendous game for the diminutive dynamic duo. They should be even better next year.
Unfortunately being a small team next year will make every game a real challenge. It would be nice if Mooney decided to teach and emphasize offensive rebounds and decided to teach a zone defense and maybe even another offense to use to give opponents something else to think about. I don't know if the A10 is going to be significantly better next year. If not we should be right in the thick of things. Certainly would be nice to see a couple of 6'10" or taller recruits and a grad transfer who could actually help.

If you had told me before the game we would make 12 threes, outrebound St Bonny, and hold Adams scoreless until 7 minutes left I would tell you we won the game. Just an out of this world shooting performance by Mobley that made the difference.

Great effort tonight and glad to close this terrible season with some promise. Stick together this off season Spiders, and next year should be a special one.

I've only seen a shooting performance like that once in my life, years ago when I saw Rick Brunson of Temple make 9 threes in a game. Mobley was unconscious tonight, and Bona was shooting 100% for the first 7 or 8 minutes of the second half. It was a phenomenal effort by our guys to come back, but as often had happened during the Mooney years, too little too late, and several key wasted possessions when we had to have them most.

Yes Mobley hitting 9 3 point shots was quite an accomplishment and set an A-10 tournament record. The most 3 pointers a Spider has made in a game has been 8 with Brothers the most recent to accomplish that and Baker, Atkinson, and Fleming the others that did it.

Sure seemed like every team did that to us this year.

That run at the beginning of the second half for them looked like a lot of other ones this year. Not as bad as the ODU one but very similar

I don't think there were any other runs against us that were 3 straight 25+ foot 3FGs. Mobley was way beyond NBA range and draining 3s.
