UR Head Coach Candidates

Queally is the ultimate problem here.
• He got multiple sports cut to add one he wanted (granted, that one has been a good fit for us);
• He hired his daughter's roommate's dad to be our AD, without really any legit search;
• He controls him like a puppet ;
• He's boys with Mooney, who therefore can never be fired;
• He basically funded the practice facility himself, as a way to buy Mooney more time;
• Who the hell knows what connection he feels to Huesman, but obviously it's real because there's no other believable scenario in which we would bring him back after five awful years ;
• He's made racist statements about students and homophobic statements in general.

He's ruined our athletic department, and nothing will change until he's gone.

8 leg has many strong conversation points with our AD, coaches, and the entire culture of our department. would love to hear how others feel here. 32,satchmo, and peanut gang talk to us. probably a thread to its own. if most on the board are on the same believe, nothing is going to change.

I’m hopeful Queally goes. His kids i believe have all graduated so he doesn’t need to stick around on the board pressuring professors on their grades. Having met him twice, I can say that I genuinely hope not to meet him a third time.

ideally his kids can marry JMU & VCU grads - PQ would be a great addition to those universities :)

I have a hard time believing that one guy is at the root of all of this, that suggests that Hallock, Hale, Hardt and a host of others are just kind of cowtowing, not to mention a majority of BoT.

Perhaps I’m being naive but the whole thing to me stinks of apathy, not intent. It just feels like no one is actually banging the gong that athletics is dismal. It’s unfortunate because right or wrong, alumni put a lot of pride in athletic success, not USNews admission rankings

I think you’re right about the apathy. The people in charge now probably don’t even know what the Sweet Sixteen is. That was an electric season, 1988, probably not to be repeated with the current crowd. Hope I'm wrong.

Chesney wins opening FCS playoff game.
Beats my wife’s alma mater on a badly defended 35 yd pass with 14 secs left.
Crusaders visit Host Nova next.

We should have had a contract ready for Chesney to sign last week to coach UR football.We’ll regret not doing that.Chesney is a recruiter,a tactician,knows both sides of the ball,is a winner,is young and energetic.He would have gotten all the the campus,alumni,ticket holders excited about UR football.Hardt struck out for political expediency.

PQ is an arrogant POS. I don’t care how much money he’s paid to UR just to make himself feel important.

did Robins, Weinstein or any of the others act like this?

Taking money from that jerk has come at a huge price

Ryan Odom very similar on basketball side. Two guys that would have been great fits, home run hires and program changers. And more importantly both hirable imo for U of R. Beyond frustrating to stick with status quo and pass on winning the coaching lottery.

UR sold its soul to PQ, they are scared of losing his $ so they sat him as rector and do what he wants.

i understand this guy writes big checks , but why does he insist on using that money and influence on coaches that are not winning? thats not much of a legacy.

Well he cares about his name on buildings from what I can tell. I think the other stuff may just be gladhanding. But it is curious that he doesn’t seem to care very much about on court/field success.

He doesn't seem to realize that if he wants to be friends with head coaches, that will always be possible no matter who the coach is, especially if he's funding a large chunk of their contracts. We must be the only school in D1 whose top donor is actively working against on-field and on-court success. It's unbelievable.

I wonder if he offers top pay and security of position to his own employees that perform in the middle of the pack
