UNI got off to a rough start in Sioux Falls, going 0-3 against a bunch of solid mid-major programs. They toasted NAIA St. Ambrose on Friday, and have been preparing for us since. We've got a quick turnaround to get ready for them, but they've got the travel aspect to contend with.
UNI was picked to win the MVC with junior guard and reigning MVC player of the year AJ Green picked as preseason player of the year, but he's been suffering from a hip issue and is not expected to play against us. Another guard, Antwan Kimmons, has taken a leave of absence from the team to return home and help his family deal with COVID-related challenges they're facing.
UNI had two other players picked for preseason all-MVC teams: forward Austin Phyfe on the first team, who averaged 11 and 8 last year but doesn't seem to have been a huge factor this year, and Trae Berhow on the third team, who missed the Sioux Falls games due to COVID protocols and then dropped 19 on St. Ambrose in 25 minutes.
