it’s happening slowly but surely. The top 25 is losing mid major teams. If you consider The big East appropriately a major conference. Houston AA and I believe moving to the big 12, SDSU, Gonzaga and StMarys are the only mid majors included. No A10, No mo. Valley, etc. Basketball could end up like bifurcated football. If the Spiders and the A10 generally don’t step up we’re going to end up on the wrong side of that.

Agree. The fact that C of C at 28-3 is out of the dance on many bracketology picks, shows that the system is rigged against non power conferences. When VCU was in the Colonial the conference got 3 bids in 2011, with vcu getting at-large selection with 11 loses. Think about that. Now a CAA team has to go nearly undefeated. League is weaker than 2011, I know but it does make you think that the respect level for lower leagues has dropped and the net is geared toward rewarding the bigger conference teams.

They got a little burned by OOC sos. To me it looks like they at least made an attempt to schedule. UNC, Richmond, Davidson, VA Tech, Colorado State, Kent State, even Chattanooga and ODU (granted they've been down recently). But solid programs. And they beat all but 1. it's just almost all of them r down.

Yes they did. Net rankings are skewed and overvalued. It is by far an imperfect science. You would think that the committee could use the eye test on occasion and recognize a great season without relying on a computer.
VCU making it out of the CAA in 2011 seems unthinkable today. An 11 loss team would never make it from todays A10 as an at-large. They did prove it was the right choice lol.

I think their numbers r skewed too far down w NET but I’d be very wary of the famous “eye test”. When that is used it’s almost exclusively used to promote middling power conf teams. Do u ever hear 1 of these studio analysts etc say a mid major or lower team really passes the eye test? Never. The hope would be the committee w a little more balance outside power conf representation would look at it differently & be more objective but I don’t count on it.

these days only boring P5 schools that had EVERY opportunity to prove they belonged get the benefit of an at-large with double digit losses

I dont count on it either. What I meant by an eye test was them looking at record, schedule and just saying this team has had a great year and deserve an invite. I get your eye test, as in “this team is better than their record”. Yea that never applies to smaller conference teams.

Every year, there will be P5 teams that don't have much business sniffing the tournament, but since they play in P5 leagues, every game is a chance to get a quality win, and guess what? They are always going to get one or two of them, and then they get in. (UNC will be a decent example of that this year.) Even as bad as we are this year, if we played in the Big Ten and had half our games at home, we'd win a few of them and have some "quality wins."

Meanwhile, Charleston will never get a P5 team on its home court, tried to schedule a bunch of pretty good teams, as GK pointed out beat all but one of them, and didn't go undefeated in league play (which is nearly impossible for anyone to do, of course) and is now going to get penalized for not being perfect. Just absurd.

UNC will be a barometer to me as 8 legger just mentioned. Think they were 0-9 vs quad 1s b4 they beat UVA. Now still some season left & they could make a run in ACC tourney. But if you’ve had 10 chances at quad 1 & you’ve won 1 doesn’t that prove you’ve had enough chances to beat quality teams? It should say we r not going to give u more chances in NCAA. They’ve only done well against Q3 and Q4. If they got in with that q1 record it would be ridiculous.

Texas Tech is in next to last place in Big 12, 5-11 in conference, 16-13 overall, and some talking heads were talking about how they were making a move to get on the bubble.
Well...

Bracket Matrix has last ones in:
Memphis
WVU
USC
OK St
Miss St
Wisconsin

First ones out:
Az St
UNC
Ut St
Penn St
Tx Tech
Clemson
Michigan

Others now AQ could be first out:
Oral Roberts
Charleston
Drake
VCU
Liberty

I remember when they expanded the field to 68 there was a contingent of people saying it would allow for more mid-majors that were on the bubble to get in. The rest of us knew better, all it's done is allow for more underachieving power schools to weasel their way in.

WVU is also 5-11 in conference. Probably easily played top 5 # of games in the country in quad 1 but they r 4-12. that's like being 8-24. and who gets rewarded for that.

Oops.

There is nothing impressive about WVA’s wins. When there is close to an entire conference (80% of teams) forecast as going to the NCAAs, you know there is a problem. Why does there need to be a do-over for a conference championship? No doubt a 0.500 winning percentage minimum should be a requirement unless a team gets the auto-bid by winning its conference championship.

How could a WVU fan even be happy with a bid with that sort of conference record? A trophy for everyone moment. 🤢

John Beilein would have just said no thanks NCAA .. see you next year when we might deserve it.

Yes but they wantvany reason to put UNC in. If Wake or BC had the exact resume they wouldnt have a chance. The system is rigged. TV controls the show and want big name teams in.
If CofC doesnt get in after losing finals to a very good Hofstra team and are 30-4, what message does that send to all other like programs? It say “F off. You are irrelevant and dont ever dare to dream of an at large.” It sucks, really.

That is pathetic.
The Big12 shows everything wrong with the NET. From that first ranking, the net determines that the conference is strong, each team is given a decent ranking and then the rest of the season every game they play is a quality game and win some/lose some your net and each team in the conference’s net stays strong. Experts have been saying 8-9 Big12 teams in the dance since Jan 1st. It is determined before conference play starts. Happens most years with the Big10 and then they stink it up in the dance year after year. Net is a horrible horrible system.

The only thing that UR can do is improve, improve, improve. Watching Gonzaga the other night they have 2 player from the Richmond area how on earth is us or the A10 not able to recruit local players? Getting rid of Mooney’s mediocrity is the first step.

Not every local guy wants to stay local. We (and VCU) offered Bolton very early in the process, but he ended up heading to Penn State (same class as Myles Dread). Then Iowa State. Then Gonzaga.

Reid was a 5-star recruit who had his choice of programs. Unfortunately for him, he chose Slick Willy Wade and LSU as that whole thing was collapsing.

Fun fact about Bolton. His allegations led to the resignation of Pat Chambers, Penn State's version of Mooney. For that, I am grateful.

Reid got decent mins and good production at LSU. At Gonzaga his mins have been minimal. Maybe increases when Timme is gone. Reid was never coming here. He had tons of P5 choices.

But I was looking forward to a front court of Bacot & Reid...

Willy Wade made his mother one hell of an offer.

Burton will go to UNC next year. Bacot may decide to come here once he realizes he'll lose PT...
Not sure what Tyler will do. He could certainly go to UNC, UVA, Duke, Kentucky or anywhere he wanted. I think he is ready to get paid and will go pro at some level. After watching the G league game last night I think he is already better than most playing there.

Except of course for his former teammates...

UNC w another quad 1 loss. If they get in with that q1 record just replace quads and the NET.
Essentially the same team except for one and look at their result. Was it coaching or too many NBA
dreamers going 1v1. Leaky Black is only team player on that team. Yes I am an ABC fan.
