Time to move on

The players inability to execute had nothing to do with losing this 10 point lead.

Who is responsible for bringing in those players? They just didn't show up and say that they wanted to play.

This is such a weak argument, I don't even know what to say besides that this board has gone past any legitimate arguments and are so far to one side that it is basically the equivalent of an extremist political group. Opinions are so biased that they are treated as fact and anybody with a different opinion is simply mocked, insulted, or ignored. That is the opposite of how discussion should go and has turned this board absolutely toxic.

For example, I agree that Mooney needs to be fired but since I don't go off on him every day on how awful he is I'm still attacked here or mocked for wanting the same end result but trying to be rational instead of blindly blaming every single thing on the coach.

I bet you were on the debate team in high school.

Players lose a 11 point lead because they stop executing or become ball watchers vs attacking the defense. That is on the coach cause he does not have right personnel in to properly execute.

Example we attacked lane in first half and then in second half kept shooting outside. You keep pressure on defense by keeping attacking. Our comfort zone is the 3 vs staying inside.

I will add we kept the matchup defense most game vs switching to straight man or even a conventional zone.

It's no coincidence that a hallmark of the Mooney tenure has been giving up leads with five or so minutes to go. Another has been the close loss. After awhile, you start to see why these both happen to us frequently. Please spare us from watching any more of this terrible movie, Mr. Hardt.

Mooney clearly coaches his team to run clock the final four minutes of the game. We lose all aggression, give up offensive rebounds and get killed with second chance points, and basically pass the ball around the perimeter and throw up a bad shot as the shot clock runs down. It’s the same thing every game. So hard to watch.

So fire the team? No the buck stops with Mooney, his team, his coaching

You merely state that it's a weak argument without providing any basis for your assertion. It makes your prior arguments regarding a straw man ring hollow. Pray tell, why is it a weak argument? I stand ready, willing, and able to be brought into the light.
All I need to be convinced is a plausible explanation, something beyond your unsupported retort and naked asseveration.

Ply, appreciate your input and opinion always.

However, I’ve got to disagree. Mooney’s effects are systemic. And I would point to our final play with 30 odd seconds left. That was after a timeout, and we looked inept. Maybe the players failed to perform what Mooney drew up, but it sure looked like we had no plan, or at least no plan b.

In closing, Gilyard is a boss and I love watching him play.

i don't want to keep arguing so instead I want to wholeheartedly agree with calling Gilyard a boss and saying that I also love watching him play.

He played well on offense but had 4 or 5 really bad turnovers.
A really big difference was their ability to convert five offensive rebounds into layups. Have we turned five offensive rebounds into baskets the whole season??????? Yes the players, particularly Grant, didn't box out and let that fresman big guy get two or three putback layups. Coaching very much influences boxing out and sending one, two or three guys to the offensive boards. This game was lost right there. It's great to make threes, but if that's all you have and the threes don't fall the whole game, what is plan B????

Game article in the RTD said that Golden didn’t score in the final 14 minutes of the game. That’s ridiculous.

We went away from Grant, not sure if it was because they prevented us or we didn’t find him.

He was scoring at will in the first half.

CM’s post game interviews are bad. Someone needs to tell him we lost. The point of D1 basketball is to win, coach! Matt Smith’s question about how much we have improved because a month ago we lost to VCU and Davidson by 20, and this month we played both close is nauseating.
Fire Matt Smith too, enough of him.

Well Matt also said we had to go to Brooklyn and only win four games.

It’s a shame that Hardt didn’t walk out and give Mooney his big picture frame tonight along with the departing seniors.

I am sure Mooney reminded him that we beat GMU a month ago, and got waxed by them last week.
