The scary question

I think shawndre. His game is different, it's not a replacement. I think we will be more balanced.

no one player replaces K0 -- I think Fore will play the point and ShawnDre will play the 2. Everyone will have to pick up their game to replace K0. One special player.

One person that we have now can replace him. It will have to be spread over all 5 positions. Especially the two positions that produce nothing now!!!

A scary question to be sure. Another question might be "Has the UR/Mooney journey reached its end?" Great guy, nice memories, no hard feelings, but one definition of insanity is doing the same thing over & over while expecting a different result...

Lots that can't be replaced -- heart, competitiveness, shooting ability and fearlessness. Think his points will be replacement by committee. SDJ, TA and TJ need to up their averages and if each does it by 5, then we're nearly there. But getting that consistency is hard during a long season. Real question is who will step up and become our 4th shooter even if off the bench like Kendall did for a couple of seasons. Could be quite a competition between JJ, KS and a healthy KF. Hope MW can give us some consistent points as well. We don't need another defender specialist cause we've got 3 now. At least Zo can offer the potential of 5-10 pts a game.

We said the same thing about Kevin Anderson, and Kendall did a pretty good job. SDJ and Fore might pick up the slack. Maybe his replacement won't be recruited for a year or so.

Exactly webcrawler, my early list if we do have to replace him:

Anthony Grant (may be terminated by Alabama)
Bobby Hurley (made winner out of Buffalo)
Tommy Amaker (Harvard)
Sydney Johnson (Fairfield)
Ben Jacobson (Northern Iowa--lateral move for him?)
Ben Howland (maybe too small of a job for him to jump back in)
Steve Prohm (Murray St)
Bryce Drew (Valpo--would he leave alma mater?)
Brad Stevens (if he left NBA)
Jeff Jones (ODU)

AD bears some of the responsibility in terms of what they're willing to do to bring in a winner like Amaker (I think he'd be expensive for us). Given past success, we should be Gonzaga by now instead we seem to take one step forward then two steps back.

Plenty of talented assistants at the power conferences as well including a young Belein one:

Well we just went another year w/out going to the NCAA's. I'd think next year year should be an indicator of what to expect. I can't believe the expectations wouldn't be anything less than an NCAA bid...especially with a lineup consisting of mostly seniors & juniors getting most of the playing time. If we don't make the NCAA's and the admin. accepts this as status quo, then CM is probably set for the years to come through contract duration.

Kendall is a pure shooter, had worked on his craft, and it showed from the start. Not many HS players have done that and then they struggle in college against even average competition. We need a shooter and play maker to add to our lineup, along with everyone stepping up their points and overall game. Agree we may not have heard of this player yet, even though I'm really hoping someone on our bench will surprise us next season.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but shouldn't the minimum expectation be NCAA bid every year? Shouldn't we be long past the idea that we're the cute little upstart? Do we set our sights on joining Gonzaga/Butler/Wichita State or are we happy here with Wisc-GB/Murray St/Belmont? It's a mindset that needs to extend from this board to the top...

Agree w/ URFan1, Khwan needs to play point and handle the ball. Shawndre definitely a 2 guard

We will need at least two new guards to step up and play a lot of minutes with SDJ. Hopefully Woods and TJ will take most of DT's minutes. That alone would be a huge point production improvement. Adoda has to get us 9 points a game next year. TA needs 16. TJ 15 and SDJ 14 and 16 out of everybody else.

Without Kendall, we are barely a 500 team. I just don't see anyone stepping up next year, I hope I eat crow.

Grass isn't always greener in the world of coaching changes. Be careful what you wish for. If you believe you can "blow up" this program with firing coaches and not probably end any chance of these upperclassmen getting to NCAA next season, you're freaking kidding yourselves. Obviously, many of you don't understand human behavior and you'd be setting the program back for even more years. None of us are happy with the ups and downs of this season, but I'm glad that fans don't get the final decision on these things.

Suggestion was to commit to success, expect it, and then make it happen. While it's natural that we'll have a fair amount of talk about the "old lightbulb," Mooney has been given more than a fair chance.

When you lose as many close games as we do, it's not the kids; when you can't get anyone to schedule you, it's not the media; and when you're satisfied with CBI or NIT, that's what you'll get.

We played our best this year with sdj running the point. He pushes tempo. I don't see him as 2 guard

+1 I'd hate to end up with another wainwright experiment. Mooney isn't perfect but he isn't the catastrophe some here make him out to be.

also to the original thread, shawndre is a PG, he's not a two. We want a 2 who is a bigger body and can shoot. Khwan will back up at 1 but both will play together at times.

Can Khwan play the 2? I think the two on them in the floor together will be good for the offense, but I took Khwan as a 1 (only have seen 20 minutes of action)

I am not down on Mooney's coaching and I can see how he was fooled on the recruiting end. Those four juniors physically look like basketball players, but only one is. The other 3 are so bad on offense that he has to run that stupid wholesale Off/Def substitution gimmick. I am not so sure squeezing 19 wins and a 4th place A-10 finish out of these underachievers hasn't been a great coaching job!! Shaka only coached his team of 4 stars and "academic all A-10" players to a 5th place finish in a much diminished A-10.

Am I wrong to suggest that we should have higher expectations than "not a catastrophe?" We shouldn't get rid of a mediocre performer because once, a long time ago, somebody hired a poor performer? This is exactly the kind of thinking that could make us the Mets to VCU's Yankees - 2nd rate in our own town

Curious to see if Mooney is mentioned for any other jobs this offseason and how hard he listens.

I'm also fairly certain that Brad Stevens is not leaving the Boston Celtics to coach us. Otherwise, good list above.

I think khwan backs up sdj but I'm sure they'll play together at times. Trey is our starting 2 guard, I am not a fan of that cause trey can't shoot but everyone knows mooney is stubborn as a mule and that is how it willbe

Mets analogy is apt. Spent a lot of time listening to sports talk in NY (WFAN), and a consistent theme of Mets fans is how they "led the league in triples in the month of August" or "slugging percentage is up 22% over the past 3 seasons" - all the while they're mathematically eliminated in July.

Enough with silver linings and moral victories. Find a young, hungry coach - one who reflects our traditions & values - and pay what it takes to get him here. Help him get a top-50 schedule, and the recruits will come. Do any of us really believe that we can't compete with Davidson, Wake, Villanova, etc for top players?

Fair point. I was speaking for ideal lineups, but yeah TD will start at 2 no matter what

Is it good when your starting 2 scores 3 points a game and shoots 47% from free throw line??

We can't have Trey and Deion on the court together next year very often. It is too damaging to the offense. Today, i did think Trey made some nice plays on offense and showed he has finally learned how to drive to the hoop and score sometimes.

But Deion turned it over way too many times, and in what turned out to be a one-possession game, you just can't do that.

Trey and Deion need to play the old Terry Gates or Matt Blundin enforcer position that UVA used to have. Just come in and foul and lean on the other teams best player and wear them out. Never shoot unless its an uncontested dunk.

The fact of the matter is SDJ a pg who can shoot open shots and get hot..but the team ran better when he was distributing or one of those rare nights KO was off and distributing. If KO on which he was tonight he is not getting no one else involved. This the team sits back and watch non involved.. IMO that's why we lost today we say back and relied on Kendall which he was scoring but as a team we was not cohesive.. last six games We have had four players in double figures not tonight. CM let KO run rampid that's his trend nothing new..we got right and end up losing a game we played well enough to win..When a player not touching ball not confident he's not into the game tonight small things cost us the game..not to not bad shooting just 50/50 game plays...

Blundin was definitely a player who made the most out of his 5 fouls. Couldn't score a lick but was definitely a banger inside. I don't think he would have been any better had he focused full time on hoops. He made the right choice.

Newurfan. Our scoring tonight was 26-14-12-7-6-2. The 2 guard had 7 and only shot 6 times and we had no free throws. Anthony was 12 for 16!!!!!!!! 75%!!!!!!!! Scoring wasn't the problem tonight, it was defense on the 3 point line and refs giving them 19 foul shots to our 5. 67 points is enough against a mediocre team like RPI, they are not Duke.

Kendall had 6 assists as well. He had a monster game, anyone criticizing his play is crazy.

The real question is who among the new guys can replace Taylor and Davis? What a shame to have two players that started all season long and averaged under 6 points per game COMBINED and shot a middle school appalling 45% from the free throw line. Just because they will be seniors doesn't mean they will be better. They should NEVER be on the floor at the same time. The offense/defense thing just doesn't work, maybe Mooney should have been a football coach instead.

Prediction - The two combined will get at least if not more minutes next year.
