Syracuse Game Thread 11/21/2022

We have no idea how to get the ball inside three three-point line against this zone so far.

Good grief you knew this zone was coming. Syracuse has played it for years. We hav no offense against. Passing back and forth up front ain’t it.

Unfortunately - give our shooting woes, and difficulty with zone against lesser opponents - I think Syracuse wins this easily.

Our only chance is that Burton catches fire from deep and he gets help from Grace (if he plays) and will need Roche to hit some shots. Will also need Nelson to limit turnovers. If Goose can hit 1-2 threes - that would be a bonus at this point.

Syracuse 77 UR - 62
It's early... Looking like a Cuse victory by 20+... We ain't scoring 55...maybe 50

Mooney’s zone “offense” is a terrible option for this game. Passing in between two long armed defenders up top to get the ball into the guy at the foul line is going to end up in 20 turnovers

How many years have we seen Mooney teams content to play pitch and catch 17 feet from the rim?

Combine that with a ton of early turnovers and an opponent who drives. It’s a formula for failure.

Nice little comeback. Transition buckets are our friend, as long as we don't keep getting every shot blocked.

Side note. Why does anyone listen to Seth Greenberg? Dude said no to Steph Curry after having him hand delivered to him. IDC what anyone says, no one should take his opinion serious.

How is it possible to get blocked that many times in transition?

Side note: If you combined the line drive shots of Williams from Syracuse and the moonshots from Burton, you'd have a normal ball arc

It’s been 50 years but if I recall playing against a 3/2. A player breaks from the wing or the baseline to the foul line. He needs to be able to hit the quick jumper from the foul line. If a defender follows him to the foul line that spot is where the next pass goes. Passing the ball out front does nothing, you got to break the perimeter.
