#SVGSZN - A10 Tourney

fwiw urmite, what team was that?
Well, the 6th time will be in one week And they have been in the A-10 for 9 seasons.

Even worse, no Wednesday games, 2 Thursday games, but 6 Sunday games?
At least they are only 1-4 on Sundays.

I think we’ve only been in the semis twice in ten years. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

Ouch! Ugly!!

AD says, "“While this season did not produce the outcomes we expected, we remain committed and focused on our efforts to support and improve our men’s basketball program under coach Mooney’s continued leadership.

Mr. Hardt, What do you expect to change? You've got 16 years of data.

there are no stats allowed on the REGATTA
Exactly, most companies cannot afford to work off touch feely sentiment, but instead have cold hard metrics. Hardt said compete for championships. Apparently that means finish top 8 when picked top 1. Queally is kind of the rich dad for the athletic department, and Hardt is the son that is laying on the couch and not really looking for a job - much easier to do when Daddy PQ is still paying your bills.

Might have to take VCU +3 to keep my interest in the game. Went up from +2. Bonny well rested but takes playing only the starters to a level beyond even Mooney. I still look at UR vs Bonny starting 5 and say Mooney's 5 a slight edge.

So when you have to play the starting 5 more than you like, what's the gameplay? Slow the pace down! Schmidt has gone that route the last few years. Read Bonny has the 15th fewest possessions in the country. I believe has helped this season when you consider Bonny's subs have received only 10.1% of the minutes per game. We complain about UR and their at 18.3%.

Mentioned Mooney possibly slowing the offense down a few years back along with some sort of zone play on defense. Limit the starters hard minutes. Though to do that you need a coach who has defined plays in his bag. Mooney's offense appears to be only free-flowing. Saw 5 guys all capable of creating two man isolation plays in various combos. Not nearly enough of that in my book.

Now onto the defense. Totally shocked at how well Mooney's defense was last year. I think now the word "anomaly" used a few times by PhillySpider explains it. Back to the normal after lightning in a bottle. Even with Burton instead of Nick? Makes no sense like Mooney still coaching this team if going by his resume.

Okay so back to the A10 title game. I think it comes down to who gains control of the pace of the game. Even if VCU can't get Bonny running more see VCU pressing Loften from the minute the ball is brought in trying to wear him down. Also big for me, would attempt to get Osunniyi (only big) in foul trouble. Has fouled out twice this season. Losses to RI and VCU. Lose him for too many minutes and Bonny in trouble. And stat I saw where Bonny shoots over 42% from 3 at home. Only 28% on the road.

Bonny has been more consistent for the season along with an underrated defense. Just have a hunch VCU gets it done or hopefully loses by 2. ;) Maybe some won't root for VCU but would help the FireMooney cause, plus my wallet.

Nice first half by the first overall pick: 0 points, 3 fouls. Clutch player!

LOL! More like a stupid player. Wasn't on the court enough to be clutch or not. Though he was a zero except fouls. Bonny shoots 50% from 3 in second half and no shot. VCU went away from going inside though they got paint points. Didn't take long for them to forget Rhoades instructions.

But will it be another 45-14 2nd half like it was in Olean?

St Bonaventure is playing for an A10 championship today. St Bonaventure. Let that one sink in.

All year they've looked the way I hoped we would look. There's just one key difference. I wonder what it could be?

According to one poster, nothing...
"My point was just that it is funny that the same ones who praised and complimented Schmidt are the ones who often get on Mooney. Yet, their records are similar, with Mooney even having the advantage in some spots."

"Schmidt is 123-103 [A-10] and 236-181 overall at SBU.
Mooney is 131-93 [A-10] and 262-186 overall since Schmidt started at SBU.

Mooney has 2 NCAAs and 2 NITs and Schmidt has 2 NCAAs and 1 NIT.
Mooney has 6 top 4 A-10 finishes. Schmidt has 4.
Mooney is 10-9 against Schmidt."

Haven't seen VCU much this year but one thing I can say, Bones is WEAK, physically. I mean he gets the ball ripped out of his hands twice, plus doesn't look even at the college level to create his own shot at will. Does he play defense? Looks like a G Gervin type NBA player but 4-5" shorter. A crucial size difference for the NBA. Better lift some weights.

NBA people know, I think, but don't see a 1st rounder, at least by today's performance. Though just going back to his stat line, 21 points in 27 minutes. Surprised. Though read could be a PG NBA prospect, not with 5 TOs today and ball handling needs work.

Still shaking my head at this one. In no way shape or form is the guy we have a better coach than the guy they have.

Yeah, VCU may have lost but they have made the NCAA's 7 out of 8 years since joining the A 10. Meanwhile we are clamoring for a CBI bid. Pathetic.
