#SVGSZN - A10 Tourney

OK, lets evaluate:
1) No Francis, that sucked for him and the Spiders. Hate to see our gun slinger go out with no bullets. Feel for the guy, loved his attitude for 2 seasons.
2) Golden - much more effective and active. Didn't mind seeing the emotion. Unfortunately he kind of faded down the stretch like the entire team.
3) Goose back in starters role with Blake out. Wilson had big impact in his 15 minutes. Woud have liked to see Dji.
4) Got Beat by a decent team, but a team that had 3 of its top guys transfer in the middle of the night?? OK Duquesne team took us out. Mooney is abysmal in the A10 tourney.
5) Cayo - 0-5 FG's
6) Played great first half, faded down stretch. Maybe let Dji play 2 or 3 of his minutes?
7) 1-7 from 3, man he could never quite get untracked this year. Played a solid game I thought, but couldn't make plays when bigger longer athletes from Duq helped out.

All in all did not go like I planned.
I'd like to build on this:
1) Francis - early on I was really enjoying having a big 2 guard out there with Goose doing some good things, and I wondered if Gilyard's more aggressive start was due to knowing his role changes without Blake. it was working. then it wasn't.
2) Grant - talking more out there like the old days. played with fire. hate that he's injured and goes out like that.
3) Nate - as good as he's been offensively, his game doesn't work when there's shot blockers out there.
4) Wilson looked great on both ends. hope the FTs don't get in his head.
5) Jacob - did so many good things. still can't believe his shot never came back.
6) Matt - tough day at the office.
7) Tyler - he's been struggling. much better today. we've seen him hitting 3's. get back in the lab and fix it again. arc is still too high. makes for a long path.
8) Goose - he's got to be the frontrunner for a starting spot next year. took a while to come back from the injury, but he does a lot of good things.
9) Mooney - it's his team. he had some bad luck. but they weren't good enough. that's on him.

Physics says the basket entrance is bigger the higher the arc. I love his shot. He usually misses left or right. Work on accuracy.

Let's look at the teams that finished ahead of us in the league this year.
1. Bonaventure – Returned less than we did, has not nearly as many resources as we do, but with the best coach in the league, none of that matters.
2. VCU – Lost almost their entire starting lineup, played a bunch of freshman and random transfers from god knows where, does have a future No. 1 draft pick and first-ballot NBA Hall of Famer though.
3. Davidson – Returned less than we did, lost to us and still managed to finish ahead of us. Wonder if coaching had anything to do with it?
4. SLU – Returned all their starters, like we did, handled COVID even worse than we did, until we did. Has a complete moron as a coach, a team that can't make FTs or shoot that well, yet owns us every year anyway.
5. UMass – Ok, they suck and got lucky because they only played like 4 teams in the league all season and three of them sucked. Moving on.
6. George Mason – Returned less than we did, and... WTF. GEORGE MASON finished two spots ahead of us. Jesus Christ.
7. Dayton – Lost all but two of their key players, was pretty much mediocre-to-garbage all year, but still managed to finish ahead of us.

there's an optimal arc. I believe he's gone past it. there are programs that can track your shot and correct if it's too high or too flat. that's using physics.

I was going to say there used to be a lot of hype around a chip in the ball and software to track. Watched one of those sports science shows that analyzed and said Steph Curry had the optimal arc. He has a very high arc. Sometimes Tyler's threes swish and sometimes they are a foot off. Just need to keep improving and hopefully not at a different school.

But...but.....we'd much rather have a winning head-to-head record against McKillop than make the A10 semi-finals year in and year out, right?

think there is something to that. Tho Burton with the highest arc was our best 3 pt shooter this year. Nobody had a higher arc than downtown Reggie Brown that I’ve seen on Spiders. And I believe he shot it better in his career than anyone did on this year’s team. FWIW.

Actually it's using computer science. And to my knowledge, I don't think there's a program out there that can correct anyone's shot. I think the shooter needs to make corrections.

Reggie shot 31.7% from 3 for his career. not a good example! maybe arc optimalization would have helped!

yeah, it's all about repeatability. a higher arc makes the basket entrance bigger, but also lengthens the distance travelled on the shot which magnifies any error.

like golf or bowling, form and arc don't have to be perfect as long as it's highly repeatable. Burton was pretty terrific before the pause. if he gets that back and keeps it, he's going to be a monster. the form looks beautiful and consistent. if he gets back to 40% like he was most of this season, I don't care how high he shoots it. when anyone goes cold after being hot, I look for a reason. but maybe he doesn't need to change anything. just needs to groove it again.

Actually the decision to pull the six books was made by Dr. Seuss Enterprises, which oversees the estate. But don't let the truth ruin a good narrative.

Yes, and Dr. Seuss wasn't actually a Doctor, and Oobleck wasn't an actual thing when he wrote about it.

But don't let the truth ruin a good narrative.

Burton was aiming for the ball today, not shooting. He will be a great 3 point shooter the rest of his career.
The one announcer was going on and on about how he needs to be better from three and I was wondering if he just started following us yesterday. Burton was our best three-point shooter by percentage for most of the season.

Anyone watching the train wreck between Davidson and VCU? 16-13 and less than five minutes til the half. It’s almost as bad as watching the Spiders lately.

Got it muted in the background as I’m actually watching a rebroadcast of a Jimmy Buffett concert from 2013. Much more entertaining.

I did notice McKillop defends the high big man ball screen exactly the same way Mooney does. fwiw

jeez, I'm just replying to above about watching the Davidson VCU game. I know Davidson has done better than us. McKillop is a good coach. I'm just pointing out that McKillop defends the ball screen the same way. the way which gets blasted here. it sometimes gets beat, but it's a common way to defend it. maybe we need quicker footed big men to do it more successfully.

That Luka dude who goes to the same barber as Mooney is slow as F.
