Summary:

Virginia A 3-0 lead dissipated quickly in South Bend. The Wahoos only managed nine first-half shots. Defense was sloppy and prone to foul. Groundballs were coming up Notre Dame. Virginia killed off a Notre Dame two-man advantage in the third quarter and it seemed to bolster its confidence. Dox Aitken scored the game-winner on a clutch swim dodge and rip. Shorting Dox at crunch time without slide support was a fatal mistake. Ian Laviano was outstanding on the inside. Payton Cormier, the Oakville Ox, scored five goals. Ball movement on offense was much sharper. Defensive alignment and assignments were better communicated. Saturday’s game was riveting. The only thing I struggled with was the officiating, which at times seemed not ready to handle the speed and physicality of a high-level game that featured 10 penalties. The refs eventually settled in. The Wahoos’ schedule has been the country’s most rugged. This 12-11 win over Notre Dame was huge; it was the Cavs’ first on this enemy soil, and their best team win of the year. Richmond is next.

Virginia is good. They are leading 9-5 at half. Their scoring is tough to contain because of their quickness and positioning. We were able to get into some offensive rhythm in the second quarter................will see what second half holds..................
