He shot .415 from 3 and .803Josh Jones averaged 14 ppg at D2 Henderson St this year. I actually had pretty high hopes for him the way he finished his freshman year here.

Wasn’t going to post but since we are off the topic of the smoke and fire. This transfer had a shot. Only went to Divison 2 because he already redshirted his freshman year. Mooney tied his hands. Forced him to division 2.
I always thought Diekvoss could have been a perfect three-point gunner for our system. He's the only transfer who seems to have done really well at a lower level. Suspect he could have held his own here.
Nick Patrick - didn't he get caught with a dog on campus or something?
Drew Crank - switched to tennis
Nick definitely had a dog his junior year... Not sure that it was a huge deal or not. I don't remember, really. I just remember he had some little kick dog for a bit.
I always thought Drew got a raw deal. Obviously was recruited by JW, but worked hard to become a 6'11" guy who could shoot the 3 (32.1% -- not too bad for a guy who had never shot a 3 before). Obviously athletic, because he played tennis. Just felt like Mooney never knew what to do with him.
so the "official" version was smoke? says here Vassallo couldn't get the 800, and UR denied Garcia's admission because he couldn't get his transcript from Belgium to UR before school was to start.Garcia didn't have a transcript issue. He was a Wainwright recruit that had a serious attitude problem. Guys on the team told Mooney they didn't want him after his OV. Mooney pulled the offer as a result.
Always thought the decision to redshirt was a mutual decision between coach and the student athlete. This is suggesting otherwise. This is something I guess I just don't understand about roster management. So the season started here and there was probably a conversation suggesting that it would be best to redshirt. Then after the season is over and he hasn't played a minute to evaluate and he's out the door? Isn't there some middle ground?
Interesting. Any insights on the Bryce, AJ, Tomas situations? Were they coaches decision with player approval? Or was it more like the coaches told them they weren't good enough to get minutes this year, so would you like to redshirt?Red shirt is definitely often not a student decision.
If nothing else Tomas seemed a different situation since he was never announced as a redshirt.Interesting. Any insights on the Bryce, AJ, Tomas situations? Red shirt is definitely often not a student decision.
I've never heard anything other than Mooney is very transparent with kids about their likelihood to contribute, has conversations with the kid and his parents, and it is a mutual decision. I believe various of our redshirts have said as much.Nice guy Mooney at it again

What he said...our system complexity does not allow players to be comfortable for at least half a season. Of course, we could try to not be so complex. But that would be just kooky.I think we need to get off taking grad transfers. Mooney has tried it twice and it just doesn't work with his system. Our transfer this year never played and the last one, I can't even remember his name was nothing more than the 8th man. Given Mooney's intricate systema and tough to learn defense scheme - getting a guy for one year does not work. In other systems, where its much more basic and man-to-man style, most guys can pick that up quickly and make an impact - either as a started or off the bench. But in Mooney's system - I don't see it working.
We could also try to get someone not from northeastern or Chicago state.... or someone who averages more than 2 points per gameWhat he said...our system complexity does not allow players to be comfortable for at least half a season. So while I fully concur with this, there’s evidence that even good players struggle with our system for their first 15 games or so, and that presumes they play starter minutes. It takes even longer for guys who are subbing. We could also try to get someone not from northeastern or Chicago state.... or someone who averages more than 2 points per game
Let’s try getting a good Grad Transfer and test your theory. So while I fully concur with this, there’s evidence that even good players struggle with our system for their first 15 games or so, and that presumes they play starter minutes. It takes even longer for guys who are subbing.
All of this points to the reality that a one year player for us may not be that helpful. I’d love to be proven wrong.
No he couldn’t and that’s why he transferred. He had 0 athleticism. It was obvious to anyone in the building who saw him practice. He can shoot, that’s about it.I always thought Diekvoss could have been a perfect three-point gunner for our system. He's the only transfer who seems to have done really well at a lower level. Did I advocate that he should of been? Your guess is as good as mine. Im just saying dude couldn’t ball. Then why did we offer him a scholarship?
Sandoval was involved with a girl on campus. Has a beautiful daughter now.
Garcia didn't have a transcript issue. He was a Wainwright recruit that had a serious attitude problem. Guys on the team told Mooney they didn't want him after his OV. Mooney pulled the offer as a result.
S-man, that's one hell of a memory.
This may very well be the most inaccurate comment I’ve ever read on this entire thread. 0 atheltism? Really? You make that statement from a freshman in a practice? No he couldn’t and that’s why he transferred. He had 0 athleticism. It was obvious to anyone in the building who saw him practice. He can shoot, that’s about it.
and that’s not why he transferred. This may very well be the most inaccurate comment I’ve ever read on this entire thread. 0 atheltism? Really? You make that statement from a freshman in a practice?

No it’s just why he didn’t play and couldn’t contribute which was my point. Are you his father?and that’s not why he transferred.
Interesting articile, completely meaningless other than author's research as to who they believe might be eligible.
what time in the video, pod? I'll look, but I don't want to spend 10 minutes looking.Go look at that video I posted in the "Interesting stat thread." You might be surprised. Put it on full screen. Slow it down. Run it back and forth focusing on individual players and situations. You will shake your head hoping that is the worst it gets. The video doesn't lie. Some of the players are just going through the motions. Look at the one play with the high ball screen, the much maligned/discussed player leaving, and the player recently mentioned in this thread. Watch the play and watch the reaction of the coach in the background. Player A gets his a$$ yanked yet once again even though player B didn't do his job defensively. I used to see the same thing happen with Dunkier constantly. What is even worse is that Dunkier used to get caught guarding that 3 gunner in the corner while he was in just like you see over and over again in this video with GG and PF. I don't understand the strategy there.
