Dogg is right. Sherod sounds like a coach on this episode. Based on this, I guess the players are getting a basketball education, but unfortunately it doesn’t turn into wins.
Nick rightly points out the focus now has to be singular - winning the A10 tournament, which should have always been one of two goals at the beginning of the season, the other being to finish first in the regular season. Instead you have a coach that is coaching scared and doesn’t develop his team to be its best at the end of the season. Why are Duke, UNC, and Michigan St all of the sudden winning? It is because all of those teams have coaches that are preparing their teams for the final stretch. You bet they are going to get into the tournament because they are going to be among the best teams playing at the end of the season. They aren’t looking for at large bids, they are looking to win conference tournaments.
The fact is CM doesn’t belong in the A10 and is grossly overpaid by the athletics department for the results he has produced. Most “investors” would have dumped this stock a long time ago; however, I guess the plan was “buy and hold” and there is no need for a return. The most depressing thing is that last year was so promising and the team showed real progress. Everyone expected the Spiders to build on a solid base. Instead the team regressed, UR got embarrassed by its poor Covid protocols and its AD managed to sour relations with the commissioner’s office. One WHALE of a season.
Yes I am still rooting for UR and will watch the games. Expectations are low. Maybe they can catch lighting in a bottle. Good luck Spiders, you definitely need it.
