@ SLU - Friday 7pm on The Deuce

This is a typical Mooney team game. We’re just off in first half offensively. Several runs against us and that cooks us because as good as we are offensively in 2nd half we stunk on D and on the glass for 40 minutes. We are a one trick pony. If that one trick doesn’t work for the full game, good teams will beat us.

Kudos to grant for giving it his all tonight. He was clearly in pain anytime he touched the ball. There were a lot of dead balls in the last 5 minutes, why didn’t we defense/offense Sal and Grant? Grant could literally do nothing to affect shots or grab rebounds. Not a knock on him, he’s a warrior, but that’s on Mooney to not realize how big of a liability it is for your 6’11 center to not be able to grab UNCONTESTED rebounds. We just needed a couple of stops and boards.

Beat 41-20 on the boards is unfathomable.

The rebounding problem was all too foreseeable. SLU is near the very top of the NCAA in rebounding. We are near the very bottom. The numbers actually aren’t far off what season stats would have suggested was likely result. This is just 20 possession advantage we concede basically.

And on this point - isn’t the stated reason we don’t go for offensive rebounds so that we don’t give up any easy buckets in transition? If your half court defense is awful anyway and gives up easy buckets anyway, doesn’t that blow the rebounding theory all to hell?

The last 4-minutes were not good, and the last 2-minutes were frankly abhorrent. Sadly, Richmond did not play well enough, and they did not deserve to win. Good teams who are well-coached do not perform that poorly when it counts the most.

The automatic bid is the last hope now. A Coach who can't guide this much talent into the NCAA tournament, is a Coach who has proven his incompetence beyond all doubt.

If you aren’t going to play with two hands on the defensive end, you can’t be on the floor. Period. That was enraging to watch. And you don’t need your left hand to hedge a screen properly.

Both Jacob and Blake played all of the 2nd half. Our guards need a breather somewhere in there. Hard to go full throttle for 20. Especially the physical beating on two undersized guards. The starters played their hearts out coming back in the 2nd but just fell short with the late game possessions.

- OK you are playing with 4.5 men starting and your center is scared to reach down for the ball with both hands. So play in Sal for defensive purposes and he has a quick step
- Our guards are experienced and shifty but at times their decision making is that of a freshman
- Gus and Burton were non factors in the first half but showed life in the second. Tyler has got to get out of his funk and get back to what he does best: attack the rim
- If we play the second half aggression the rest of the year, then something special may happen, but Mooney has to figure in some sub pattern to give our guards a blow and sometimes I think Sal would be a better sub for Golden than Grace who is not a defender or rebounder

Some really great insights from Nick Sherod on tonight’s game on Noah’s podcast. Recommend giving it a listen.

This was some bullshit to watch. He acts like we won the game. Hello! We lost the game that may define your career. A win tonight and we had an inside track at a berth. But we lost, and now we're toast. But hey! At least we had a great second half! So impressive. Except for those last four minutes, when we just handed the game. But let's just overlook that and talk about how gritty we were to fight back from a huge deficit we created in the first place. I'm so goddamn sick of this garbage.

Sorry but Grant doesnt rebound when he is 100% healthy. Its just not in his DNA.

OMG I am literally starting to dislike this guy. He really is pathetic. He is obviously a guy who has been told that he has a job for life and winning really doesnt matter as long as the "effort" is there. He knows that he will get a pat on the ass from Q and Hardt. Not a coach or program worth supporting really.

Oh come on he must have some redeeming qualities as a coach in order to be paid 1.3M per year? Who in their "right mind" would pay that much money for lousy coaching? Wait - on second thought do not answer that second question!

I don’t think Mooney is a lousy coach. I think that he’s a $500k coach that we’re paying $1.3M.

It’s like paying Ruth’s Chris prices for Outback steaks. Unfortunately we’ve shown historically we care more about the amount we spend more than the result we get.

Am I the only one who finds it weird that Noah calls St. Louis “SLEW”? He did it a few times. SLEW. I know where he’s pulling it from but I really don’t think it’s a thing.

Granted I refer to George Mason as the Goo Moos all the time. One of the better nicknames ever. But I also wouldn’t expect a media member to say Goo Moos.

Just a small thing but found little odd.
