Russ Huesman

I doubt he'd do it, but I would kill for Will Healy to be our Special Teams coordinator.

Two answers:

His other son Levi is 13 and a baseball player.

Chatty has struggled on special teams.

heard delaware is paying DR $2million but with that he still will be short some socks, jerseys and hand warmers.

Huesman was on campus at UD interviewing last week. (Sips coffee)
According to one of the most reliable sources on your board, the deal with Rocco was a "done deal" at least two weeks ago. (Smells the aroma of his own sulfur expulsion and smiles with satisfaction)

(Methane is odorless; perhaps skatole or some sulphur laden compounds.) OSC

Yeah we can certainly debate the way in which Gill handled the whole situation, but it has struck me today that much like a head coach, ADs make mistakes, learn and grow too. Maybe Gill needed this experience to motivate and shape his development as AD. He checked off priority #1 with a great hire...now he needs to get the department moving towards facilities and growth...let's see where he goes from here

Gill made no mistakes. He knew what he was doing from the moment Rocco went public about his vision.

Must be the sulfur component which produces the odor. I guess the methane component is what makes them ignite when met with a source of fire.

Tuned in to listen to RH interview on 910. I guess they said he was DRIVING back to UTC.
Gill might have found the perfect guy because I would have assumed they would have him flown in and out privately like most schools in a time sensitive matter
If this is true , and it is just what the radio stations guy said, I'd say upgrades to facilities just dropped a notch in urgentcy and if that's the case what a glorious day for Major Major a Gill!

The more I hear of Russ, the more I like him. Now not sure if we didn't show Danny the door. As Danny said he had taken Richmond as far as he could; probably a true statement. Now we have someone better who CAN take us to the top. Great hire for UR. How could Spider football fans not be excited. Rol Spide! OSC

Here's some info on coaches. Maybe some changes RH didn't see coming, we may need OC so hold on about spread offense
From Chattanooga tv station
Those same sources say two UTC Assistants will interview on Friday. Linebackers and Special Teams Coach Rusty Wright and Offensive Coordinator Jeff Durden.

Those two are in interesting positions. Per sources, Wright who will interview at 11am is already set to become Georgia State's next linebackers coach if he doesn't land the Mocs' Head Coaching position.

The same sources say Durden has already interviewed for the Head Coaching position at Lafayette in Eastern, PA out of the Patriot League and if he doesn't land a head coaching gig he will likely leave for Richmond with Huesman.

Wright is a UTC Alum in his second stint as a Chattanooga assistant. He played several roles as an assistant during his first UTC stint from 1996 to 2002. After that he spent time coaching at Miami (Ohio), Furman and Reinhardt.

Jeff Durden has more than a decade of FCS experience all as an offensive coordinator. Durden spent the last four years as Russ Huesman's offensive coordinator. Before that, he spent nine seasons leading James Madison's offense. Before that he led Morehead State's offense and in 1997 that offense led the FCS nation. Simply put, Durden knows the Mocs and he knows offense.

compare that to DR who just left and tied a tie, at least as far as we know. a tale of two cities

Very interesting quote regarding our assisstant coaches salaries. Saying our salary for such coaches places us number 1 or 2 in fcs. Wonder if that was the case before his hire.

It's also possible that he didn't demand as high a % of the overall allotment of coaches wages as Danny did. As far as I am aware, none of our previous coaches made $437k. Less $$$ was leftover for the rest.

I do recall DR's last interview with the press here where he stated that UR had addressed the most significant issues, or words to that effect, so assuming that ass't coaches salaries were included in those issues addressed. I have a sense that RH is getting about the same (+ or -) as DR got but that the ass't coaches pool was significantly increased.

Good point, the HC has some say in salary adjusting. I know for all the bad things you could say about Latrell Scott, he reduced his salary so that he could pay more to get the OC and DC he wanted. Others have paid their position coaches little in order to pay the OC and DC more.

This is an excerpt from that aforementioned article

"
But it wasn't enough. And sounding much like Blackburn on the fundraising trail, Huesman said the Mocs will have a hard time enticing enough top athletic talent to reach the next level, whatever that is, until their boosters donate enough money to build a long-overdue athletic training facility.

"I wanted that building to be my legacy," he said. "If they want to be a top-five team every year, building that building is big."

I really liked that, so it looks like he and DR are on same page , two very good coaches knowing what is needed to keep programs at highest levels. I'm sure there is differences in the specifics in the schools but what are hearing from each coach is the same, you need the tools to compete long term and consistently

I really think it's time for AD to get specific on what the true plans are along with timing. Not just say we have this elevate plan that doesn't seem to ever make progress, Ball is in their court

Coach Rocco was a fine coach and did a very good job at UR, but I am very excited about the next chapter of Spider Football. The more I hear and read about Coach Huesman, the more I am impressed with him. He wants to be at UR, has a stellar track record as both an assistant and head coach. I think UR was fortunate to hire him from his alma mater and get it done so quickly after Rocco's departure. I am hopeful he will hire a good staff, recruit well and continue the momentum of the program. I think he can take us further than Rocco.
