yep but just goes to show, we typically know nothing or are fed rumors or misinformation all along the way which we jump on as the truth and make fools of ourselves.

Sandy, thanks and you guys can't be too far away from going through this but certainly not like this. am sure Jimmye will get the grand tour through the caa when he decides to step down. am sure you and your fellow posters are looking for the next guy and have a wish list.

Yes, we do. The ultimate dream is that Mike Tomlin decides to live off his investments and comes home to finish his coaching career.

There is the old saying, "Offense wins games, Defense wins championships" Could this hire be the key to our next title?
Look back at our 2008 team.
Only two teams scored >20 on us, and we lost both of those games.
How many times did we give up 20+ this year, even in victory?

I would be very surprised if Gill did not have this in the works long before yesterday knowing the Rocco situation. I would bet he was at the ready to pull the trigger as soon as rocco inked his deal.

Working in college athletics has taught me that there is a lot going on behind the scenes the rank-and-file don't know about, that ADs have a lot of constituencies to please, and that what the student/athlete wants/thinks is just part of the puzzle.

Let the professionals do their job. As I said on a different thread, I have heard good things about Gill from friends in the department. It appears their faith in him is justified.

And yes, get him a lectern. LIke this one.

Also, we should all eat at Mission BBQ this week in honor of our new hire!
What's the deal with Mission BBQ? Never been there, but have seen several references to it on this board all week. Is there something peculiar about it? Sleazy?

It is entirely possible Huesman reached out to UR once the Rocco rumors gained legs, through a back channel, indicating he was open to moving on from UTC.

It is inside a K-Mart (or is it Winn-Dixie?)...

It is close to the Westin, that UR has a rate discount at...

But really, Gill & Huesman eating there last night was the first public meeting observed between the two as Mo stated above with twitter examples...

Thought we did a pretty good job with the Presser. Robins Center provides a beautiful backdrop - I really liked the commentary before and the 1:1 interview after - how come Bob Black didn't do those?

Coach Huesman said all the right things today. who knows what the future holds but right now I feel about as good as you can about the future after losing a coach. kinda like how he admitted how nervous and humbled he is to take the Richmond job. seems like a really great guy.

listening to the interview with Huesman on 950...just let it slip that his OC and DC from Chatanooga are coming with him...good news

Interesting if true. His OC, Jeff Durden, was JMU's OC for 9 years before going to UTC for the past four. We see your Trott and raise you a Durden, Dukes.

His DC is a 2002 W&M grad, so those two both would be back in a state they know well.

Talking with Greg Burton, he said that he wouldn't have left UTC for any other FCS job...none. To repeat what he said above, indicated that both OC and DC are both coming with him. Also added that he had a good nucleus coming with him. Going to talk to some of the staff at UR as well. May look at other places. When asked about Will Healy, he simply said that they had remained good friends.

Yeah we can certainly debate the way in which Gill handled the whole situation, but it has struck me today that much like a head coach, ADs make mistakes, learn and grow too. Maybe Gill needed this experience to motivate and shape his development as AD. He checked off priority #1 with a great hire...now he needs to get the department moving towards facilities and growth...let's see where he goes from here

Russ Huesman is a great coach and we are lucky to have him back after the fiasco of the past week.

Two questions:

Does he have a younger son that will be playing college ball soon? His quarterback son tore'um up for 4 years.

Does he have a really good special teams coach that he will be bringing????
