Russ Huesman

Richmond's Admin has taken a beating on this board, and perhaps deservedly so. But making this happen is freaking huge and turns a terrible situation into a neutral situation, which seemed impossible a few days ago. In the end we may get all the upgrades Rocco desired now that they have been brought to light and a highly desired coach.

This will be good. I believe the University still needs to show they are committed to football. An announcement of facility upgrade to begin immediately, more money for assistant coaches, whatever it takes to show support and they are serious about remaining a power in FCS football. That would help to calm things down

This is a great resolution to what could have been a very bad situation.

Gill has gotten beat up on here the last few weeks, but this is first major (major) hire here and its a very good one.

It's impressive that we could get him to leave his alma mater that easily, I must admit. A few weeks ago I really didn't think we'd have any shot at him. Great job by our guys to lock him in.

There is the old saying, "Offense wins games, Defense wins championships" Could this hire be the key to our next title?

I am thrilled with this development! Russ is a great guy and his players loved him. We will not miss a beat and may have even upgraded. Having been at UR, he knows what it takes, the kind of kids we can get and how to make it happen. Congrats to Keith Gill and President Crutcher for making this happen in a very short time frame. GO SPIDERS!

Question did we pay more to get Huesman than it would have cost us to keep Rocco? I'm not only asking about salary, but facility upgrades, assistant pay, etc.

Impressive hire. Gill might not do good in front of camera but his ability to pull this off so quickly is impressive.

I am guessing that with the money we saved on hiring Huesman, we could buy a ton of extra gloves for the team.

I'm shocked. this had to be in the works for weeks and we were all in the dark. Like Jim Mora said, "You think you know ,but you don't know, and you never will."

All of these dominoes fell just about as well as we could all have hoped.

Danny got out of a toxic relationship with his AD and gets his "landscape/vision", we get the return of the Stonewall defense that won a championship, and UTC probably gets a promotion for their OC or a return of Will Healy.

And we probably have to fast track some football facility upgrades to save face.

To get a guy like Huesman it shows how well respected this job is in FCS. I'd like to see us pump more $ into things that have been discussed and maybe this change helps. By how quickly UR targeted & closed the deal on Huesman we must have known Rocco was a goner & maybe didn't mind too much either. And the Press conf on same day as Rocco...alrighty then.

we do not know if DR had a toxic relationship with KG, think that was all part of the DR leaving, excuse drama. DR was ready to move on and used excuses so he did not look as bad as he should have in this. just my opinion. we need to support our UR people, not those who wanted to leave.

This is a terrific hire and football will not miss a beat................and stay tuned...............may improve....................particularly after we throttle the Blue Hens and their coach..................if anybody remembers his name...............................

On UTC athletic site is a statement about Russ's departure. President explained they did all they could do to keep him there. Had discussions with him over the last week. Suggests Rocco leaving a done deal sooner than announced and KG made inquiries to Russ last week at least.

Spinner, that is right on the money. DR should not get a free pass in all of this. These are not insurmountable issues and nothing was different than it was when the job attracted him to Richmond. Maybe there were promises broken, some things could be improved for sure, but it sure seems like he just wanted to leave. So he's gone - and we replaced him with a great coach and made the announcement before his presser at Delaware. He's a good coach but DR loves him some DR.

And don't forget DR was willing to screw over Delaware at the last minute until Temple told him to pound sand.

There was likely a good reason for rapidly pulling together the press conference yesterday! Think Hard!!
