We truly have a pathetic fanbase. Hope you guys sitting at home posting on the boards are having a blast while our guys our outnumbered 10-1 or more in the stands.

Great job.

Since they have 10x more students than we do and 10x the alumni we do, the math actually works out. Good job Spiders!

If that makes sense to you, we're even further behind than I thought. How are the wings at Hurleys?

....or some of us couldn't take off work, are sitting on the edges of our seats listening to the Spiders app and hopped on the blog for a break to talk the game with fellow fans?

Wait a minute - I thought one of the main reasons we could never get a good following in Richmond was because our alumni is so spread out and the majority of our students come from the Northeast (especially NJ and NY) or end up working in or around New York City when they graduate. You mean to tell me those alumni don't show up to games either? No way....Hard to believe.

Provided that these reasons for 10+/1 are comfortable with you guys, we're all good.

Mo make some noise, we gotta take what we can get. Let's get this done!

We had a good showing in Atlantic City. Not making any excuse but I don't like the venue and just plain don't want to go to New York City. If that makes me a bad fan, then I'll go spend another $100 at the bookstore.

Mo...There is actually a 5 dollar wing special and craft beer at Hurleys today during happy hour. I bet they taste a lot better than those 12 dollar dirty water dogs in Brooklyn. Seriously, some of us DO work and can't get away for a 4 day weekend. Glad you are thee representing - have a great time!

Mooney for sure his game plan in for the last half of the second period was moronic.

Announcers said a few times that Richmond seemed to be playing not to lose down the stretch. I didn't notice it like earlier in the season, but we didn't get many good looks. Too much 3 vs. 5 on offense. I know it is an old complaint on here but we have 2 guys that get the ball and look to get it back out to someone else. Hope Marshall Wood and Diekvoss can add some offense next year.

It seems like we are in a pattern of starting the year off slow (and even the A10 conference play) before hitting our stride later. We need to look at how we change that pattern. I'm sure the coaches are not trying to start slow, but need to go to the lineups that are going to win sooner in the season, this is big time college hoops, we can't worry about feelings of guys that have been regulars in the past.

So glad I didn't waste my time or money. At least in Atlantic City I could go back to the casino. This team could have been 27-5 instead of 19-13. I said it earlier, to me this team has been the most disappointing men's basketball team I can remember in my 50+ years of following Spider basketball. Hope we do not go to the NIT.

Best of luck to Kendall Anthony, he's a real warrior and deserved to play in post season (thanks Mooney).

Rick, agree this team has so much talent. Poor Kendall Anthony will never play in the NCAA tourney. Disappointing.

I'm as disappointed as anyone, but to say you son't want Kendall to have a chance to play in the NIT, and to say some of the other things said at the end of this game are ridiculous. Support the players.

Take Kendall out of this game and what do you have?

Next year is what you have.

I think we will be better next year. This is a learning experience. Nobody likes to lose.

agreed.
we played hard and pretty well. VCU hit shots. we made a couple of costly mistakes including missed foul shots ... and didn't get many of those considering we didn't stay outside and we attacked the rim. but VCU earned the win.

this talk about how we should have been 27-5 or something ... please. we have a great player in Kendall, a couple other really good players coming back, and some role players who do some things well. it's a good solid Richmond team. it's not an all-time great.

but Kendall is. heck of a game. he's awesome.

What is clear after seeing all three games this year is that we are better than the lambs. But the better team doesn't always win. We almost gave away game 2 in this series with missed free throws and today we did.

The last 5 mins we played like a deer in headlights.Couldnt maintain lead. Our confidence and swagger disappeared.Lambs shot unusually well from 3land and we put them on the line too many times.

Hosting an NIT game will be great. We should run whoever we play right out of RC and back to their waiting bus.

Richmond didnt guard the only guy that could beat them. m
Melvin Johnson. DT an TD made more mistakes than I can count.

Guys we controlled the game up until the end. Felt like we were holding back a dam the whole game just couldn't execute when we had the chance. Fell apart some costly mistakes and Shanwdres turnovers to me stood out. Good game nothing to hang our heads about came down to the wire and we couldn't finish.

SpiderRick you might want to wait a day or two before posting. Don't let it get the best of you ,it's a game and someone has to lose. I am excited for the NIT Spodets turned the season around, although a little too late. We need some postseason experience going into next season

Careful K, don't criticize the players or you might be called out for not supporting the team players. In fact, I do support the players, just not the coach.

Rick, what would you have Mooney do differently? I'm curious, because I thought we played a great game.

If the answer is "D up on Melvin Johnson better", then I'd say I'm fine with a dude shooting NBA range threes on us when he played poorly in both games prior against us.

Just seems like a ridiculous complaint when we were in the game the whole way.

I support them Rick, but Geez, I am not blind!! UR should have easily win that game.

The last 5 minutes (or < 5 minutes) thing has happened too many times this year. It becomes a pattern. Seems we broke out of it a bit during our winning stretch, although a couple of those games could just have easily been lost (example - VCU at RC). The end of game strategy is something that needs to improve so we can close out games. I certainly hope this pattern doesn't follow into next year. If it does, where do you point the fingers?

I thought our defense was fine. Johnson got hot. They hit a bunch of low percentage shots. I wanted them to keep shooting them, because it would average out. We just stopped running our O the last 4 mins. We stood around and waited for KA to make a play. I agree we are the better team. We dominated the paint and forced them into tough shots most of the game. i think next year our end of game execution may improve without Kendal. Dont get me wrong, I love Kendal, but we may be forced to continue to move the ball to get open shots. I am disappointed we didnt win, but I am excited about more basketball at the RC and in NYC.

Playing "not to lose" by eating clock and all the offense/defense subbing just kills the offensive timing and flow. Why not just keep doing what we did all game? This strategy is on the coach, not the players. Haven't we seen this show too many times. It's just like when football teams go in to prevent defense, it seems to backfire more than work.

SpiderGuy, you are right. As awesome as Kendall is, he is 5'6" and is the only man on the team that resembles a leader. Every coach in NCAA basketball knows it and pounds on him at cruch time. No one else on the team steps up to make the key shot or a free throw. We only have 3 other guys that can score period and they are only being platooned half the time. 3 can not score. This was a bad loss, we should have won this game. IMHO

All comes down to offensive efficiency, particularly in last 5-10 min. Better with the 6 game win streak but still seems our players worry too much about taking the shot clock down rather than taking the best shot.

I think another problem we have at ends of games, is the short bench. Kendall played 40 minutes today, that's asking a lot of anyone. Fatigue may have been a factor on that late game slip. Terry played 37 minutes. We really need TJ in our offense, but he got only 25 minutes because of foul problems. No one on VCU played more than 32 minutes, and most played much less, so their players are fresher at end of game.

We should have a pretty long bench next year.

Not sure about the NIT either, we may have needed a win today, for that bid. All comes down to how many openings there are, after automatic qualifiers. We've been disappointed on that front before.
