Roussell has some work to do

Don't know the quality of who's left in the portal but -according to the tracker I've been following - here are some stats:

Current number of entries: 1527

Commits: 847

Last year the 3 of the 4 portal additions were announced on May 7 so the fact we haven't had an announcement is not concerning to me. While I'm sure the staff was paying attention to the portal, they also had to focus on an extra week of preparation for UCLA.

We also didn't announce Jimenez signing on until the end of May and she turned out to be a pretty valuable pickup.

No clue if we are in on this one or not, but I was just perusing the transfer portal list and she seemed like the type who could be a good fit. She's a 6-foot wing from Wake, from NoVa originally, can rebound. Didn't shoot many threes but made 67% of them, so I might have her try a few more... Grad transfer, has played a lot at a similar school.

I see we have offered Kate Schindler, 6'1" shooting guard from Marvin Ridge HS in Charlotte, NC.

2026 offer out to Kate Schindler, a 6'1" guard from Charlotte (Marvin Ridge). Offers from App State, La Salle, Navy, UMBC, Manhattan, BU, Elon, Holy Cross, Penn, Campbell, Colgate, Marist, American, and Cleveland State. Scored a Union County record 58 with 12 threes in a game last season.

Edit: Dang it, fan1, I was in the middle of crafting my post! 😝

Thought I knew all the high schools in Charlotte but never heard of Marvin Ridge HS?
Still would love a 6'3-6'4 center type to boost our rebounding.

It's a fairly new school (~15 years or so maybe?) down in the Waxhaw area near the SC line. They've got one of the top HS swim programs in the state, which is how I'm aware of them.

It’s a legitimate high school, I have been to that school.
I lived in Winston Salem 35 years and wonder if this is a new school within last 10 years. My kids all went to
West Forsyth which was 4A when we left in 2015. Not questioning legitimacy, just never heard of it.

If Wikipedia can be trusted: "Marvin Ridge High was founded in 2007, to reduce overcrowding at the neighboring Weddington High School, transferring about half of the student body to the new school."

They moved from 3A to 4A in 2021 and have been extremely successful in many sports. (NC is moving to 8 classifications next year, and Marvin Ridge will be 7A.)

Think one or two Spider football players came from Weddington which I am familiar.

Yours has more pieces of flair.

2027 offer out to Sabrina Anderson, PG out of Potomac School. Participated in U16 national team trials just a week ago. Has scored over 1,000 points in HS in her first two years. Was offered by UVA last fall. I see more recent offers from Toledo and Navy.

Fits our system and has the length on the wing that Roussell likes. She will need to work on her athletism ( lateral quickness especially) to be a major contributor at our level.. Roght now I don’t know that she will be more than a borderline rotation spot up shooter. And even that won’t come super early. But if she can find a way to make a jump on physical attributes, she’s got some skills. Always tough to tell what kids have worked on that stuff already and this is where they are or those that are still raw at building the athletic parts of their game and might have good room for growth.

Have you personally seen her play before?

She does remind me of Maggie Doogan when she started and look how Maggie has blossomed.

Sabrina Anderson ranked #55 in the 2027 class by ESPN. She picked up an offer from Arizona State in the past few days.
