Roussell has some work to do

Offer out to 2025 wing Avery Cooper from the Chicago area. Has other A-10 offers from GW and UMass, plus DePaul, a few Ivies, and others.

Definitely deserving. No doubt and happy for him.

I wonder if Rousell’s extension was actually discussed first and then that lead to the Mooney discussion. #ConspiracyTheory /s
No, Mooney’s extension was when we thought Hurley to the Lakers and UConn would be available, so we decided to protect ourselves from poaching. /s

Roussell has done an amazing job building this program up. I really hope he wants to stay here. Anyone know if our women’s basketball team has an NIL? Would love to give Roussell as many resources as possible to continue to succeed. We have a lot of local talent here as well who are highly ranked. I can only imagine with our recent success, the improvement of the A10, our facilities, and having NIL for our women’s program, that we could be an enticing place to play for recruits, particularly those who are local and have have an interest in staying close to home.

Just missed out on this 2025 recruit. Not sure if offer posted. Came down to us and Miami. Sucks but silver lining I guess competing with and ahead of lot of p5 schools...

Fun fact: HOFer Kate Flavin ended up marrying a Richmond WBB practice player! Never had a conf championship, but he got another kind of ring...

Also, any long time Richmond WBB fan gets at little bit of PTSD seeing Dawn Staley on TV all the time. Not sure we ever beat Temple while she was there, they had our number every time!

Looks like we’ll be playing in a very good MTE tournament: West Palm Beach Tournament on 12/20 and 12/21. Looks like it’s at least us, Michigan St, Alabama, Tennessee.

Great! Can we get the same field for the men?

Scott made a visit to UR. She also posted about Bradley and Cal Poly visits today, so not sure when they all took place.

Only thing I question is level of the competition which she dominated pretty easily.
I'm not going to second-guess Roussell's recruiting decisions. He's earned the benefit of the doubt. Doesn't mean he'll strike gold every time, but if he sees enough potential to offer and accept a commitment, I'll celebrate it no questions asked. For now. 😉

I had the same thought. Would love to see us get more recruits who have P5 offers, but there are a lot of good basketball players in this country. Roussell and staff have done a great job of identifying and developing talent so I’m sure they see a lot of potential in the recruits they offer. Hopefully our women’s program continues to get better each year.l and hopefully make top 25 at some point. That would be exciting.

Normally I would say she would go to P5 but I really like our chances with Roussell being former Bucknell coach, our recent success, the immediate role to fill with Budnik graduating, and hopefully our NIL investments with women’s basketball. Let’s get the job done!

Saint Joe’s top returner is transferring this year. Doubt she would come to Richmond, but the opportunity to play with a potential all-American in Doogan, coached by Roussell, and make the NCAA with familiarity in the conference could be enticing. Still, the other and bigger point I want to make is Richmond should be the clear favorites next year in the A10 (assuming no starter transfers from UR) with Mason having 5-6 players in the portal and St. Joe’s losing their best player.

Ullstrom but much more so,Doogan will be sought after especially exposure from NCAA performances.Either could play anywhere

Agree but I am optimistic that if Roussell wants to stay at UR and continue to build this program, they will stay too. With the house settlement money that UR hoops is going to give to the women’s team too, the priority is giving them a competitive NIL that they deserve. That along with the familiarity of the coach, university, teammate camaraderie, ability to win more championships and play great competition next year while getting meaningful minutes, and completing a UR degree, hopefully are more than enough reasons to stay. Also for Doogan specifically, having another stellar year next year will cement her legacy at UR as one of, if not the best women’s basketball players we’ve had and should without question get her jersey number retired.

In fact, I hope Roussell, Doogan, Ullstrom, and Sweeney staying + competitive NIL that I am wishing UR gives to women’s hoops, will be a strong enough recruiting pitch to bring in 1-2 impact transfers from the portal this year to solidify us once again as a premier mid major program and even top 25 nationally.

If she's got an agent, she's looking for a power-conference payday.
Again, call me delusional but tell me why UR isn’t able to offer a competitive NIL with P5s especially in WBB where the overall monetary offers are significantly less than it is for MBB? What do you think her agent will ask for coming from Patriot league, not a top 100 recruit, and being 1 of nearly a 1000 players in the portal (supply & demand)? My guess is between $100-200K/yr. If Roussell thinks she is someone who will make an immediate high impact on our team next year, I would hope UR can provide that money. The ROI we would get from this will be well worth it.
