Coach Huesman said during the week that the number one goal was to win the game...congrats to the team on this big win...I have to admit I was a little concerned how the team would come back after the tough game in C-Ville...
obviously there is a tremendous difference in Fordham and UVA, but like others, I think tonight was a step in the right direction for the Spiders...
our defense really stepped up their game...it was important, particularly before the third quarter explosion which was ably assisted by the turnovers the D forced...like Charlotte we held the Rams to negative rushing yardage for the game...the D was dominant... much better tackling, sacks and turnover...the Rams star receiver was a non factor...
our OL gave us a chance to run the ball too...the Spiders go from negative yardage to 242 yards...it did feel odd not seeing KL at QB, but Kevin Johnson came on as the game progressed...4 TDs and 273 yards through the air with no INTs...just what we needed...he'll likely keep getting better...we might have a pretty good back up in Mancuso too...
this one has to give the players and coaches some momentum and confidence going into St. Francis next week...its another game in which I'm pretty sure we'll be heavily favored...let's hope we can replicate the best aspects of this one and keep improving...we'll need to be this good and better for the CAA...
