A number of people on this board said no way any of the seniors will be back next year. Well here is an interesting article in the RTD saying 17 UVA football seniors are coming back for an additional year. I think we might see some of our seniors return.

So those 17 football players opted to give up $150,000 a year playing in Europe? Oh, that's right... They didn't have that option. They probably had no options. Our guys do. Hope I'm wrong, but I don't think I will be.

I agree with Eight. Our guys are more than likely going to have the ability to play in Europe and make a pretty nice salary. Those football players are looking at the NFL or CFL. They don’t even have the Arena League anymore to go to. And I’m sure those seniors returning feel they have no chance at either of those.

You never know? Some guys like the college life, others don't. Some might want to play another year in front of fans and have more of a normal senior year, others won't. Guys turn down money and return to school all the time. It's really hard to speak for any of our guys. We'll just have to wait and see.

Definitely an odd year, and anything possible. I think most likely scenario is they all move on. Either we have a really good year, make NCAA, win a game or two - and everyone moves on happy to have had a great career, capped off by national adulation. Or we slide, don't win A10 reg season or tourney, and despite LooserNardi's having us in his last bracket, we just miss out. Players are deflated and ready to move on to next phase, and don't really have unfinished business, just want to move on from the disappointment.

I feel like the most likely scenario for many to return: new strain of covid runs rampant and is not impacted by vaccine, season herk jerky stop and go (even worse than now) ultimately gets shut down again prior to A10 and NCAA's. We end season ranked 14th in AP. In that scenario, I could see many returning. In the first two, I think we see guys move on and hand the reigns to Wilson, Dji, Nelson, Burton and let the future begin.

I feel the seniors will stay only if they felt they left something on the table that is worth staying for. It may be that those in grad school at this stage may be able to finish up and will stay and play. I know I loved school but was ready to get out and make some cheddar. Strange year and circumstance and would not want to put odds on who stays or not.

Most of the players on the team should have an opportunity to play pro in Europe and I hope most of them get paid well. Below is a great article outlining how much players get paid in different leagues. The average player in Europe's top league gets paid $65,000 to a $100,000 and the lower tier leagues make $12,000 to $36,000. If they get a big contract lower probability the stay, if they get a lower paying contract there is a higher probability they stay.

I would think the UVA football players had other options. A couple might even be possible NFL guys, while most of the others could have had some good paying jobs. Pretty much all of them are probably giving up something to return.
