Recruiting Level

McKillop recruited Stephen Curry who some consider to be the greatest shooter in NBA history. That says it all about McKillop's recruiting and ability.

Your dog should consider taking some online courses through Trump University. Great value.
The pooch is holding out for Bernie and Hillary's free college degree. They will be like trophies, everyone will get one.

That is true. It is also true that Steph didn't get any P5 offers. Diamond in the rough.

I would certainly try to recruit progeny of former hoops stars, in general. TJ Cline is a great example of that too.

I don't disagree, but at the same time, Gonzaga has been to the NCAAs 15 years in a row or something, Butler went to the championship game two years in a row and Creighton gets 18k fans a game and is in the Big East, so I think they are able to attract higher-level recruits inherently than a program that has missed the NCAAs for 5 years in a row. Even Davidson has more of a calling card at this point than we do.

But yeah, in general, if we can actually make the tournament again at some point, we should be able to build on that in a similar way, if not to that same extent right away.
At some point in time, sadly I'm old enough to remember, all of these teams were unheard of up and comers. Creighton and Butler were doing pretty well before they got in the Big East, why do you think they were invited? How do you rate the academic levels?

Curry was not heavily recruited out of HS, he was considered too slight and frail for P5 basketball. I reckon he proved a bunch of folks wrong. Plus, his family was living and is still in the Charlotte area, and Davidson was so close his family could come to see him play. McKillop lucked out with SC, like CM lucked out with KA. Take both of those players away, and neither coach looks like they accomplished much.

If nothing else, examples of how recruiting and signing one game-changing player can boost an entire program into the national spotlight.

True, like Sampson did for UVA. Took them 30 years to get back to national prominence though. Those guys don't come around often even to most of the big schools. I think we have two or three good ones coming next year. Sure will be an improvement.

K, have heard the same statements year after year as one watches the tape of our new recruits but until here, we do not know anything......hope, but that is all

True Web, I have to agree. The only difference is that I got to see two of these guys play several times each. (Not from Texas). I was impressed with the height, and basketball skills. Both seem to get what is going on, if you know what I mean. "Basketball awareness" you might say. I just have a feeling about both and like their confidence. We will see them play a lot next year. I can easily guarantee a huge inprovement in the 2 and 3 positions.

I have not seen Mr. Golden play.

Does anyone have any recent video of Grant? I've been told by a couple people that he may be the best of the 3, which would be pretty amazing.

I would like to see that too. Hope it's true about Grant. That would be nice!

Reported earlier going to one of Grant's games and can say he is really agile, long, can jump and create his own shot. In addition, he played with a bit of confidence and swagger that I liked. I took a couple if short videos of Grant, but do not know how to upload them. OSC

Grant seems to have some size to go with the 6'8" frame. Not a bean poll.

K, Grant is now 6'10"! Saw him play, talked with him before the game; he is taller than 6'8". His brother is 6'8". OSC

I agree, I don't think McKillop would have won any of his 500 games at Davidson without Curry...

again, have seen guy in high school that i thought were a sure thing and were not, does not always translate. when they get here and play like they did at the lower level, OK, until then, don't get too excited.

Come on, Spinner – just admit that Golden is likely to break Johnny Newman's career scoring record in his freshman year alone and we can all move on.

McKillopp is overrated, most of his wins came from feasting on SoCo cupcakes. If not for SC and the NCAA runs he took Davidson on, BM's profile as a coach would be much lower.

I hope you're right, as right now they're playing against a lot of kids who won't make it to Division 1 hoops. The learning curve is going to be steep with these guys. Hope they can make the climb, because we're putting a lot of pressure on these 17-18 year old kids.

What about the Aldridge Kid he certainly has the skills and basketball IQ to be a star, where did he come from?

Apparently he got offers from Ohio, Akron, Kent State pretty much middle of the road programs

I am not going to debate that he is great, but I will defend he is not terrible. In the 10 non Curry years before the A-10 (2002-2006,2010-2014) they beat...
UNC, Kansas, West Virginia, UGA, Vandy, Mizzou x2, Bonnies, St Joe, Charlotte x2, UMass x2, UR x2...

perhaps Mooney has already addressed the poor recruiting of the past by bringing in the best two prospects we've had in a while next year. Maybe we are on the verge of a new era. Though I'll say the next class isn't shaping up to be great just yet.

If he played us every night he would be up for the Wooden Award this year.

Next class may or may not be great but will be an improvement either way.

Unless their athletic skills can allow them to overachieve, then the system may hold them back.
These next couple of classes will determine Mooney's future with UR and beyond. Maybe he will take it more seriously.

Yes, thinking that anything before actually performing on the court for us guarantees anything is foolish.

But a higher combination of rival offers and HS performance should increase the odds of good performance here.

PA, our 2017 class already includes our highest ranked recruit ever in Marquis Godwin, according to "247" the Spiders only 4-star recruit in recent history. Along with Bryce Schneider, this clasd is in my humble opinion shaping up pretty doggone good. OSC

Virtually no one has any 2017 recruits yet and we already have a 3*. How is it not shaping up to be great? At this stage of the game it is actually shaping up to be another incredible class.
