Random thoughts

Just remember, he will be able to out athlete guys this year, and should get some good stats and be a be a good player for Bakersfield as a result, but you can't just out athlete guys as much at the P6 level.
Agreed, but you’re under estimating or under appreciating Buck’s skills as well. When Buck was on, he took over games in the A10, and it wasn’t because he was simply out athleting everyone. I think his biggest was consistency (which I always assumed was a product of age), and not a lack of skills.

Buck also have P5 athletic ability, so he can automatically hang with the big boys. That's not his only skill but he is probably the only player on our roster than or now that had P5 athletic ability.

Buck has exceptional basketball instincts so if he went p6 he could rely on that & his athleticism

VT now criticizing the A10 Rookie of Year?

Really? Just because I said I didn't think he would be a solid P6 player? I also said he should be able to out athlete guys and do well for Bakersfield this year.

Yet, he didn't go P6 out of high school, and didn't go as a transfer last year. I guess we'll just have to wait and see on that one.

I'm not sure how Buck will do at the P6 level, but I know he can play at that level. 4700 is a Jim Miller/Mooney type of plant that defends all Mooney. Hope Buck has a great year and has options for next year if he does want to go that route. Guessing not the only one that was smoking weed on the team, yet was thrown under the bus.

Do you know about his high school injury? Recruiters backed off and he proved himself as A10 rookie of the year.

Come home. Bro was athlete at vcu. Recruited by vcu out of hs. They go to ncaa’s & see them going hard after Buck. He might want to stick it to UR too.

Think p6 more likely but vcu would not surprise me.

Actually, its going to be mostly Sophomores at VCU next year, could he come in without sitting out a year?

I was thinking they might look for a transfer to tide them over for one year, before they reload with all this years freshmen becoming juniors.

He was here two years, this is his second year at Bakersfield, so he could have a degree in June...

Beat the Giants next week and it's the playoffs even though it will probably be a one-and-done. For me though the Eagles making the playoffs is like your NCAA b-ball team going to the Dance. All I ask for!

NET movement is starting to become like a stocker ticker.
Without playing...
URI 90 to 80
SLU 78 to 70
Davidson 98 to 92
GMU 104 to 99

Radford 123 to 138 by beating worst Big South team at home.

This is why I think it's highly unlikely for Radford to climb into the Top 100. That conference is too bad. There are plenty of 20-win teams that finish outside the Top 100.

I think it is highly unlikely but I’m not sure how NET treats location and Margin of Victory.

I was pleasantly surprised that Torvik’s attempt at the NET showed 15-3 in Big South as #99.

FYI one of my earlier odd questions was a poorly worded and convoluted attempt at asking “Can Radford get to Quad 2 or 4 for us?

Quad 3 is likely where they stay (Neutral Court). I don't think NET is as harsh about location as the Quad system is itself, but the formula is unknown. They cap MOV at 10 points.

Remember when we all hated when Mooney would put the ball into SDJ's hands for the last shot with no play set up. If had to would feel much more confident and not hesitant putting into this guy's hands in those situations this season.

I am watching the UVA-FSU game and wondering...."what was the last defending national champion to miss the tournament the following year?"

HTH is Fatts on Kenpom's top 5 players list and ahead of Jacob?
fan2011, please send Kenny a text to make the well deserved change.

Kenpom's top player lists are essentially determined by (kenpom team rating) * (player usage rate). I.e. player's that take the most shots on the best teams. Gilyard's usage rate is too low to get on the list since he is very unselfish. If he took more shots instead of racking up assists he would be on the list.

That’s a worthless rating system then. Last time I checked a point is supposed to be getting assists and guiding the team. I guess I’ll have to go back to b-ball 101.

Two random thoughts:

Never thought I would see the day that the Tarheels would be dead last in the ACC....but I love it!

In a totally different direction:

UR is committed to sustainability as virtually all campuses are now (great IMO)......to the point that we have a three way split for trash at our sporting events. We are known as a smart group so why do we have the directions for disposal in the appropriate slot on signs one foot off the floor?

FRS, you are right, most of our fans cant get that low any more. o_O

Haven't paid attention to it but just noticed how well ..... that's how well UR's DEFENSIVE REBOUNDING has been this season. Kenpom ranked #152 nationally and #2 in A10 play. I mean doing well with offensive boarding would be great but not a factor for team success like good defensive rebounding for the most part.

To get perspective on the above #152, closest number to that was Mooney's 2017-18 at #161. Other 13 years included 9 years in the 200s and 4 years in the 300s. And the #2 ranking in the A10 this season ..... 14, 13, 13, 10, 11, 13, 11, 15, 13, 13, 12, 7, 12, and 13 are Mooney's previous 14 years.

Mooney has had some good defensive teams over his tenure with bad defensive boarding. Though the improvement in the Spiders defense this season I believe has much to do be with their defensive rebounding improvement. Let's keep this trend going and I be hopeful Mooney final gets it.
