Radford vs. Richmond

Well hey, on the positive side, at least two of our guys will save two hours of travel time getting home for break after this disaster, since we're playing in DC and not at the Robins Center. I hope that was worth pissing away an at-large bid.

good thing we waited until Sunday afternoon to save those precious travel hours (and didn't play a Saturday game in Richmond)

We seem to start every game with a bad case of tight ass. Is Mooney giving the kids his Xanax and Valium?

And we started to think Mooney had a clue!! Really, what a tremendous let down. But out luck ran out... could have lost 3 games to bad teams and finally we let the egg slip from our ass.

Duquesne just went to Radford a few days ago and blew them out by 22. This is a horrible loss. Have to beat Alabama, Dayton and VCU to have a chance at a bid now.

No chance for a bid now. None... mostly because we arent very good.

I agree for the most part with your past posts thinking Mooney should have been gone, but come on. Spiders aren't very good? Saw LSU-USC game last night and talk about 2 teams who have no clue how to play fundamental basketball. Just recruit talent and let them go at it. If I was a fan of either team would be hard to really get behind that type of basketball. This team no matter what you think of the OOC has performed better than I thought was possible and give Mooney his deserved credit.

Only got to listen, but it sounds like we came out flat, let them get the lead, had one or two short runs but never enough to get back in the game. Will this be replayed anywhere? As painful as it might be I would like to see why we played so poorly.

This is a team of 20 year olds. They will figure it out. There will ups and downs. The future is bright.
I hope they will figure the doldrums they are in out. However they are no younger than other teams and have lots of experience

I think we should send the replay of this game to Hillary for permanent deletion.

Classic case of not being ready to play. Other team fired up to beat us.

Yes not very good... the season is 11 games old!! What credit do u give after just losing to a terrible team you had to beat. i stand by that. We beat SFU on a miracle finish, beat VU in OT at home, needed a last second 3 pointer to beat ODU and now got blown out by Radford. That adds up to not very good imo despite the record and not a great outlook going forward. Yes CM will give us 19-20 wins this year but nothing to show for it because his teams lose games like this year in and year out.

Tough One, I had my doubts about Mike Jones after his first good season at Radford but he has been pretty good for 3 years now. Despite their record I was afraid for this one. Our team has been pretty good but seems to have trouble motivating vs the lesser teams in dead atmospheres. Human nature maybe, but need a couple Kevin Smith types to fire em up.

I have more than a decade of visuals as to why we played so poorly. I’m sorry, but the best class ever shouldn’t be losing by 15 to a 3 win radford team. I also know that we’ll give Mooney another 5-6 years at least to show he can these games. So I’m hoping he proves my skepticism wrong and we win some NCAA games this year.

This Spider team is not as good as some have been exclaiming. That is not to say that this year's team isn't significantly better than the previous 2 editions (because they are). But, better does not necessarily equal "the turnaround" that many are caught up in.

They have done very well to be 10-1. Credit for winning those games as they should have. It is okay for the fan base to be pleased with the early results, we should be. HOWEVER, it is painfully obvious that the teams that UR has feasted on just aren't very good this year.

As discussed preseason, Mooney isn't going to do a magical job this season. HE hasn't turned everything around, and HIS great coaching has not caused the team to be 10-2.
1) The team is better (because of Blake Francis)
2) The team is better because Sherod is back
3) The team is better (due to multiple players who have multi-years experience)
4) The team is better because the bench is deeper
5) The team's record is better because opponents haven't been very good
6) Nearly all of the vanquished cupcakes were playing early season road games (or neutral site)

During the course of the season, ALL teams stub their toe a few times. This is one of those stingers. UR was the better team, and they should have won. HOWEVER, you could see this coming over the last few games.

There is a long way to go. I think that the Spiders will still win quite a few games the rest of the way. Not confidant that they are an at-large qualifier, but that is yet to be determined.

The A-10 looks pretty balanced. That means that 10-8 is much more likely than 13-5. I am looking forward to see what happens. If this year's team does enough to make the NCAA tournament, that will be an unexpected bonus, a pleasant surprise.

Next season is the year that all Spider fans should EXPECT a dominant season followed by a NCAA bid.

This team with its past two years of experience has to always be motivated. This result means something. Either way, not good and that can’t be denied.

You dislike of Mooney gives you a blind eye to certain facts. I know certain pro-Mooney posters are so over the top in defense of him regardless of those same certain facts, but don't be that anti-Mooney guy.

That terrible 3-7 (4-7 now) Radford team is #124 at kenpom and projected to be 14-4 in a granted weak BS conference. Same #124 ranking collegesportsmadness had them in July of this year. That same terrible team that kenpom has them at #16 in OOC schedule difficulty. Would you still call them a terrible team presently?

That being said I'm still the group of no matter what UR accomplishes this season, Mooney still needs to go for the long term future of Spider basketball. Though give me 2 years of NCAA bids and I might have to look at the situation like Helen. :D

This same team just got hammered by Duquesne at home. This has been CM’s trademark year after year. Don't get the team motivated or prepared against poor teams and lose games agsinst far less talented squads. And really despite the record, this team has not consistently played well.

I didn’t get to watch the game. Any reason why some think this is a CM loss? Just from looking at the stats it seems like everybody had a poor game except for Burton. Gilyard with 4 TO’s and a poor shooting night, Cayo, Grant, and Sherod with poor nights overall. Gustavson unproductive off the bench. Francis had a bad shooting performance, even if it led to 18 points. Not sure how we could ever win a game with performances like that, regardless of the coach, unless the coach was putting the players in bad sets offensively.
