Thank you for pointing this out. This board used to be more fun, though now it's pretty negative and sad. Perhaps that's why it's the same seven or so folks posting, as many have been driven away because of the negativity and harshness. I know that's the case with myself. Used to come on to view others opinions and takes on the games, though unfortunately, it's just not as enjoyable as it used to be. And yes, I get winning more frequently would change this, however, I feel the overall tone would still be fairly caustic.

Take the whole fire Mooney chant thread. I struggle with how people can call for and encourage the chant when they won't even be there to join in because they're boycotting the RC. Same with commenting on the RC atmosphere, games and players when they haven't gone or watched them play live. Personally, I'm looking forward to A-10 play and to supporting our student athletes with my attendance.

If a poster is an employee in the athletic department, it should be known by all. That’s not a personal attack on anyone.

Allow me to put an end to yet another ridiculous conspiracy theory. No, I am not an employee in the athletic department. I do not know Mooney. But, why should it be "known by all" on a stinking message board anyway? My goodness, why don't you share what you do for a living, how many kids you have, where you live, who you like and dislike while we are at it.

Wow

As any longtime poster in here will recall, there is a definitive sinusoidal wave of positivity when we win and negativity when we lose. We are in an extended trough of losses with not enough wins to counterpoint it.

I know folks want more positivity but the behavior is not any different than in the past, it’s just an elongated negativity streak. Win more, maybe we will get a change.

Not necessarily. Many on here are negative even when we win. How many posts have we seen wishing that these kids loose games so Mooney can be fired. That's pretty sad in my opinion.
Sick. Honestly, hope many of these posters are not UR alumni.

I don't know. How many? Do I need more than one hand to count them? The one poster I recall who openly rooted for losses has long since been banned.

This is one of those straw men repeatedly used on the boards. Everyone here wants us to win.

Broc, don’t believe it. The Spider roster is loaded; will likely progress this year, and next year will be pretty awesome. A coaching change could put off our success several years. Let’s hold on and see what happens.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me eight times, shame on me. Most of us aren't falling for this "next year" charade yet again.

What will REALLY happen is another one of our good players will transfer in the off-season and then we'll be young again next year.

Candidly, I don't care if every single player leaves when Mooney is fired. Give me a new coach and 13 open scholarships if that's what it takes.

Mooney has driven this board into the ground , face it. I have been on Richmond message boards pre Mooney, as have others.

Actually, you've helped to drive this board into the ground with that being your stated goal. Congratulations are in order, I guess.

Hopefully I can drive the board participation down to only #FMM, they are the enlightened one's when it comes to Spiders basketball.

I'll go with 65 spiderman's and kneepadmckinney's replies since they substantiate my original post in this thread:

and I'll say this ... you're constant, repetitive opinion has prompted some to examine how often they want to visit this board.

So you want the board to become a complete echo chamber of anonymous, disgruntled, hateful internet posters with the sole agenda to get someone fired and berate anyone who doesn't? Congrats, it's working.

I think it’s important that we all embrace dissenting opinions and try to learn the perspectives of others. Civil discourse is the best way people to broaden ones knowledge. If done in a respectful way, challenging posters assertions is the best way for us to reinforce or change our beliefs. I’ve definitely had a change of mind on topics here given information others have argued or challenged me on. I hope we can all enjoy reading each other’s posts regardless of whether we agree with it or not.

Yes, let's hold onto the same hopes doing the same thing with the same coach for eternityyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

"A coaching change could put off our success several years." - It's only January 1, 2019, but that statement you made may become the post of the year.

We are almost to the beginning of our conference schedule in men's and women's basketball. Let's see how the conference competition plays out. Then it should be obvious to John Hardt what decisions need to be made. I will still show up and root for the Spiders, as will all the guys who sit with me at the RC.

However, at the end of the season, it will all be about wins and losses. I am willing to sit back and wait before posting any opinions on the basketball situation here at UR. At least that is the plan. Frustration may win out in the end - but my frustration is not going to be a component in the process John Hardt uses to evaluate the men's and women's seasons.

I hope that we can find our way out of this basketball wilderness ...

I know you’re saying that out of frustration with the situation, but that’s a little over the top.

GOOD. If Mooney is going to wreck the enjoyment for the fans, the folks who spend all day looking up my posts don't deserve to enjoy their own illusion of our recent success. You are welcome for your daily dose of reality.

EL, that is completely right, we keep getting fooled. I used to be the biggest truther on here. I used to battle 97 all day. But after years of the same story, I see that Mooney is inept and we need to move on, 4 years ago.

LOL...all day...it took literally took 5 minutes. Trust me, I wouldn't spend - or need to spend - more time than that to dig up your constant negative posts. Come on, man, you really believe what you think is that important to me. Daily does of reality? Wow, you really like to drink your own Kool aid.

Seems to be very important to you. You are welcome, I have seen several ardent Mooney supporters (myself included) come around. Keep reading bra

Very important to me...lol. You do make me laugh. I'll give you that. The reality is that I spend a fraction of the time you do on this board. It's a diversion to keep up and learn about Spiders' hoops, and to analyze games and dissect them.

What's important to me is supporting our student athletes, along with going to games with my family, friends and clients. It's been great family time that we enjoy and will look back on fondly - win or lose. We sit in a great section of season ticket holders with amazing camaraderie, and yes misery at times, that goes with being fans.

Sooooo, if I am interpreting your vibe here, you just come on to defend Mooney and negatively attack the posters you deem negative? I did not see you weigh in on Fan1's curious thread. I get that you and your friends like the feel good Flying Squirrels, and yes we always have hope of winning a game. I still feel we have a chance each game with our wonderful student athletes, despite the coaching. I am in the camp that no, this is not little league, or even h.s. You are getting 1.3 mil to win, and yes you need to graduate players and keep them out of the police blotters too. I bet you the guy from the Richmond area that went to IMG academy feels the need to win and be successful and send players to the next level.

But you're not one of SpiderPride's fictional "root for the Spider to lose" posters.

I am no longer bummed when we lose, I’m ok admitting that. I don’t think that’s some personality flaw, its what a 6-7 OOC record coming off a 12-20 season has wrought. I still root for a win though.

So now you've stooped to mocking my family's and friends enjoyment of the Spiders' games. Wow. Just wow.

I can appreciate your sentiment. However, there is a big difference between being ambivalent and rooting for failure.

Agreed, I think there aren’t nearly as many fans rooting for us to lose as you think. I was just highlighting my case because Ive made comments that might suggest I fall into that category.

I'm not implying there are hoards of them rooting for us to lose, and I realize you're not in that category. However, for someone to imply it's fictional is beyond ridiculous. Numerous posters have pushed that narrative and to say otherwise is a major fabrication. Now back to a really good Oklahoma - Kansas game.

So now you've stooped to mocking my family's and friends enjoyment of the Spiders' games. Wow. Just wow.
What do you mean by "stooped to," "mocking," and "wow"? These are all emotionally charged words/terms with potentially demeaning connotations, and I am trying to look at this objectively.
Please henceforth objectify your responses.
But if I might ask, what kind of friends do you have who get "enjoyment" from watching us lose to Longwood, Hampton, and, forgive me Jesus, Oral Roberts?
Do you teach preschoolers?
No offense intended. Like I said, just trying to understand.
